Samarkand in March 2026 – is it worth going? Weather and reviews, air temperature, how to dress, prices for air tickets and hotels. What to see in Samarkand in March, where else to go in Uzbekistan – says Eurotraveler.
We have previously written about how good and right it is to celebrate spring in Tashkent. Not very freezing (usually) in winter, but with the arrival of the warm season, just blossoming like a rosebud in the capital of Uzbekistan.
Well, today we intend to logically continue the topic with another material – concerning the trip to Samarkand in March. Just as warm and, in our opinion, much more interestingthan Tashkent, a Central Asian city.
And – what is important – located much closer to Bukhara and Khiva.
Two bright, absolutely exceptional sights of Uzbekistan. See which, alas, tourists often forget They just don’t have time.
And it would be very desirable to do this. And not only the first (Bukhara), but also (mainly) the second (Khiva)!
Let’s immediately open some of the maps: there are direct flights from Moscow to Samarkand
And air travel is certainly no more expensive than those aimed at Tashkent.
If so, would you like to be seriously curious and evaluate the available possibilities?
Weather in Samarkand in March
It completely justifies the desire to come to this city. Because it promises to be really spring: Quite sunny and (at times) even warm!
It depends on the year, of course, but in most cases the air temperature in Samarkand in early March is in the range of +10-15 °C. This is during the daytime – at night it is better to count on something in the region of +7-12 °C.

Are you saying that this is not bad and will suit you completely? Take your time – in some years the very beginning of spring is here colderthan even in Moscow or St. Petersburg.
In particular, for several days in a row, daytime temperatures can be enchanting to admire the border between plus and minus. And at night there are generally mild frosts.
Of course, this is particular: 2-3 days and street thermometers will show the much more usual +12-14 °C. But… in general, we warned you.
In the second ten days of March in Samarkand it can warm up to +17-22 °C. Alas, not on a stable basis: these are the peak values beyond which a recession will certainly follow. Contrasting changes in air temperatures are generally a “feature” of this area.
At the end of March in Samarkand, the weather sometimes gives summer-like +22-24 °C. But again, it does this sporadically – a tourist should focus on a maximum of +15 °C. And take not only summer clothes with you.
Precipitation and sun
Alas, they will be there too – the starting month of spring is considered in Samarkand the rainiest of the year.
It is clear that a Russian tourist will not be surprised by such an amount of heavenly moisture (on average 60 mm per month).
But if we proceed from ordinary local realities, then it’s just “rain and rain”
By the way, in Samarkand in March they can actually be strong – in the literal sense of the word salvo. Snowfalls are also possible at the beginning of the month.
But due to predominantly positive temperatures, the snow cover is almost never installed.

The average monthly number of rainy days is 5-6. And partly cloudy and openly sunny days can even be 12-14
The duration of daylight hours in Samarkand ranges from 11 hours and 20 minutes – on March 1 – to 12 hours and almost 40 minutes – on the 31st – yourastroguide.ru/sun-calendar/march/samarkand/.
What to take and how to dress
We hope you are aware that to visit Uzbekistan, Russian citizens will need only a passport. And you do not need to register upon arrival if your stay will last no more than 15 days – uzbekistan.mid.ru/ru/consular-services/dlya_grazhdan_rossii/vremennoe_prebyvanie_v_uzbekistane/.
Medical insurance is also not required for travel. Although for those who are going on a trip with a small child or are going to do something extreme during it, it is better to take out this policy.
By the way, about children – they will also need a foreign passport to enter the territory of Uzbekistan. Plus the presence of both parents or notarized consent from them (any one) for the trip.
At the Russian border, let us remind you that the presence of one of the parents is enough to travel…
As for clothing, from the above you probably understood that in March people in Samarkand dress lightly. Although not always quite summer-like.
Umbrellas will almost certainly come in handy; you can also take raincoats (as an option, waterproof windbreakers with a hood). Surely you will be glad if you choose something with solid soles and not too wet for shoes.
Reviews recommend taking it with you on a trip. power bank – You will have to take photos often. Well, we also recommend taking a “pilot” – in some Uzbek hotels there is a clear lack of sockets.

Prices 2026
Can’t be called excessively high. Again, in recent years they have increased, if at all, very little. On something (air travel, for example), it may turn out that they fell completely!
In general, for a flight to Samarkand from Moscow and a return flight in March 2026, you will pay about 30 thousand rubles. This is for 1 passenger and his hand luggage.
As for hotels, it’s absolutely worth it a lot of rave reviews quite expensive (from 50-55 € per night for two) Diplomat Premium Hotel, located literally opposite Registan Square.
Clean and spacious rooms, decorated in national style, hearty breakfasts, natural coffee, helpful staff…. When you stay at the Diplomat, you will effortlessly feel that “life is good.”
It is located further from the city center, but still within walking distance (15 minutes) of ANNUR Boutique Hotel. Which charges less than 40 € per night for a couple of travelers in March (35 € for a promotion).
And he also does everything to ensure that the guests are not just satisfied, but also completely happy.
Individual sightseeing tours in Samarkand, although they often cause genuine delight among their participants, in general not cheap. For participation in such an event, a group of like-minded people will pay from 110-120 €.

Things to do
Many of those who come to Uzbekistan, either in March or in other months, spend only 1 day (and in fact only a few hours) to see Samarkand. Needless to say, even if this approach is explainable, it is fundamentally wrong.
Because to visit all the remarkable places here, and then taste Uzbek cuisine, you need to spend at least 2-3 days. This is the minimum period during which it will be possible to form a correct impression of the capital of Tamerlane’s empire.

Feel its aura – after all, this is the former center of a huge empire. Capture in your memory the inspiring, so elegant, blue majolica with which the entrance portals and walls of buildings, domes and minarets are generously decorated here.
The central attraction of Samarkand is Registan Square with three madrasahs (Muslim educational institutions) built in the 15th-17th centuries. The richness of the exterior and interior decoration, the combination of bright colors in the decoration looks not just rich, but stunningly luxurious.
Another place that no traveler will pass by is Gur-Emir mausoleum. Inside which Amir Timur himself is buried, as well as other representatives of the dynasty.
Also in Samarkand you need to visit the Shahi-Zinda complex. Look outside and look inside Bibi Khanum Mosquethe construction of which is associated with many legends.
The following steps seem quite natural: a visit to the colorful Siab bazaar and the Ulugbek Observatory.
Where to go
If you have time, don’t be lazy – take a ride to Shakhrisabzthe town where Amir Timur was born. The Ak-Saray Palace has been preserved there in fragments, and along the way you will see impressive natural landscapes.
Looks like a completely obligatory event trip to Bukhara. Although, of course, it should only be undertaken by those who can afford to stay there at least overnight (the one-way trip on the Afrosiab train will take about 3 hours).
Because otherwise it will turn out to be a “gallop across Europe” and generally not good…
It is quite possible to go and see Tashkent in 1 day in March. Yes, what is possible there – just it is unwise not to form a personal impression about the capital of Uzbekistan. If you have already arrived in the country…
But it’s not so easy to include Khiva in the trip itinerary – although I would like to, of course. First of all, because even from Bukhara it will take about 7 hours to get there (from Samarkand – all 10).
