Kaliningrad in March 2026 – is it worth going on vacation? Weather and reviews, air temperature, how to dress, prices for air tickets and hotels, on excursions. Eurotraveler found out what to see in Kaliningrad at the beginning and end of March, where to go in the region.

Modern realities are such that Kaliningrad is rapidly turns into literally year-round and an all-weather tourist destination for Russians. In demand both in December and January – we are no longer talking about more optimistic months.

But once upon a time, relatively recently, people went to Kaliningrad to relax exclusively in the summer. Believing that it would be nice to combine a tour of the ancient capital of Prussia with a swim in the Baltic Sea.

Then, but not now – today everything has changed dramatically. And interest in the city has grown to such proportions that tourists happily come to Kaliningrad even in February.

Within the scope of our article, we will not deeply explore the reasons for the explosive growth in popularity. Largely due to the coronavirus pandemic, which closed European borders and forced people to open new spaces. And also subsequent events…

On the contrary, we will try to study more practical matters. For example, to understand when is the best time to go to Kaliningrad? And how right would it be to visit him in March?

In the expanses of one-seventh of the earth’s landmass, the month is usually not very warm and very capricious. Often generous to temperature changes and often baffling with extreme instability.

But also very promising! It’s not for nothing that even short weekend tours to Kaliningrad in March are especially popular?!

Both due to the fact that they can be inexpensive. This is also because in 3-4 (bright and long) days you will be able to do a lot!

Weather in Kaliningrad in March

Quite and even Very goodif not generally excellent, suitable for walking around the city and trips to its surroundings!

Visits to the Curonian Spit and Teutonic knightly castles, cozy Zelenogradsk, still replete with beautiful houses of Svetlogorsk, as if illuminated by the light of a sunny stone, the village of Yantarny…

However, judge for yourself!

At the beginning of March, the air temperature in Kaliningrad favors the range of +4-8 degrees Celsius. This is during the day – at night it gets colder, and frosts (usually not lower than -5 ° C) are more a given than an exception to the rule.

On some days the atmosphere can warm up as much as up to +15 degrees. On others, she watches, as if enchanted, the very winter temperatures of 0-+2 °C.

But in mid-March in Kaliningrad you can expect warming up to +10-14 degrees Celsius. Although sometimes it can be delayed (probably on the way) until the 20th of the month.

At the end of March, right during the school holidays, it comes to Kaliningrad a little more stable and warm weather.

The air temperature at the peaks can even reach +20-22 °C

This should not lull you to sleep and relax you. On the contrary, remember that the real summer heat in Kaliningrad abruptly and almost without reason may give way to winter cold.

If you are going out of town, keep in mind that on the seaside (on the Curonian Spit, for example) the cold feels stronger. And there you can become numb even when the air is heated to a quite optimistic +7-10 °C.

Winds and rains

The wind is quite strong, but the precipitation rate is minimal: 30-35 mm per month – not much for a Baltic city. There is much more sunlight compared to winter, but there are still clear days in a noticeable minority.

On March 1, the sun rises over Kaliningrad at the beginning of eight in the morning, and sets below the horizon after 18. On the eve of April 1, the day adds more than 2 hours: sunrise at 6.12 – sunset at 19.10.

Most of the time, however, you simply won’t notice the sunrise.

Initially, you should count on windy cloudy weather. It is moral to prepare for short-term storm squalls from the Baltic, rare but quite heavy rains.

How to dress

Clothing should not be fundamentally different from what you would wear if you arrived in König during the winter months. For the coastal – that is, damp – climate, multiplied by a strong piercing wind, makes Kaliningrad in March not the warmest place on Earth.

If you intend to make the most of transport, plan to rent a car or book excursions, you can limit yourself to relatively light quilted jacket complete with a warm sweater.

Especially if you plan to have a photo shoot. And appear before friends and descendants in the most advantageous light

In case of long walks along the streets, a careful examination of the Amalienau area, or a visit to the zoo, you will need warmer and more practical clothes.

Knitted hats with gloves, scarves, warm boots on a bike or even a fur. Preferably with thick soles – this way you will minimize the chance of getting your feet wet.

Don’t worry, this won’t cause overheating or fogging. After all, in a strong wind even a good plus is perceived as a decent minus. And with a lack of energy – and why rush while walking around the city – it’s not easy to stay warm.

Personal transport would help out – no doubt! But in the era of closed Baltic borders, car enthusiasts from other regions of Russia cannot enter the enclave. Alas…

Although, in principle, getting to Kaliningrad by car is not difficult! Technically…

Prices 2026

To a large extent, the popularity of the city and region is due to not too high flight costs. So, in March, tickets for a direct flight from Moscow to Kaliningrad and back will cost a low 14-18 thousand rubles per person (only hand luggage and luggage).

Apartments and apartments even in the center of the seaside town are still being rented out today for very reasonable prices. In any case, the requested amounts are not divorced from reality – from 3.5-4 thousand rubles per day. And this is not even for two people – more often for 3-4 people!

Kaliningrad hotels for the most part not particularly cheapbut also too expensive – especially at the beginning of spring it is wrong to call them. That is, there is also a premium, without it you can’t go anywhere.

But there are plenty of options for higher prices (from 3 thousand rubles for a double room).

If you don’t know which area of Kaliningrad is best to stay in, read our detailed review on this topic!

Excursions around Kaliningrad are not only inexpensive, but also very versatile. So for a maximum of 1,500 – 2,000 rubles per person you can get a very interesting experience.

What to see

It is equally rare for a traveler to miss the opportunity to wander through an authentic Amalienau regiona kind of open-air preserve of German Art Nouveau – Art Nouveau. And his much less famous, but also nice-looking contemporary, the Prussian Maraunenhof.

Perhaps with excursion?! The layer of information received and the non-standard presentation of material during a guided walk, in our opinion more than compensate its (in principle small) cost.

There are others in the Baltic city interesting attractions. We mentioned most of them in our review, which describes the most interesting places and attractions of Kaliningrad.

And we offer you some find it yourself. Such, for example, as tiny homlin gnomes, the first of which settled on the fence of the Honey Bridge, which leads to Kant Island, in 2018.

Where to go

A must on your visit to Kaliningrad Always out-of-town trips are also included. And not the best time for visits to the seaside shouldn’t stop.

Because, for example, the Baltic Curonian Spit is a completely unique place. It doesn’t matter: you step on the warm summer sand or make a path along a snow-white blanket.

Yes and see amber in the “natural habitat” – worth a lot!

Even in winter, seaside resort towns and villages see tourists – after all, on the shores of the Baltic Sea breathes so well. And in early spring, visit Svetlogorsk and Zelenogradsk absolutely necessary!

Go to the village of Yantarny (Amber Museum), see the ancient forts of the naval Baltiysk – today tourists are allowed there.

In a separate paragraph, we will highlight the ancient knightly castles, some of which have today been returned to (relatively) good condition.

In the knight’s residence, which is now occupied by the Nesselbeck Hotel, you can either stay overnight or have a treat lunch or dinner in a restaurant. And, for example, Valdava Castle has been turned into a museum. And thanks to the efforts of enthusiasts!

The exhibition at the Schaaken Castle in Nekrasovo invites those interested. The ruins of Insterburg in Chernyakhovsk are arrestingly photogenic; it’s worth seeing the relatively good-looking Georgenburg there too.
