Florence in December 2025 – is it worth going? Weather and reviews, air temperature, how to dress, prices in hotels and excursions. What to see in Florence at the beginning of December and on the eve of the New Year, where to go in Tuscany and beyond – says Eurotraveler.
Most recently, we examined in detail and tastefully the question of why you should visit Florence in November. Today we decided to dig deeper – what is going on in the capital of Tuscany and the surrounding areas during the (today, conditionally) cold season?
Does it make sense to plan a trip to these regions, which are no longer so warm at the beginning of winter? How festive and warming it will be here Christmas meeting?
How much do you have to spend if you plan to travel to Florence in December? Are you in danger of leaving with mixed feelings or simply dissatisfied if you decide to visit the city on the banks of the Arno River at the end of the month? Or even at all on New Year’s Evethat is, on the threshold of January?
We have studied the topic in detail! And we tried answer all questionsproblems that may arise for a person planning a trip to the birthplace of the Renaissance not the most ordinary from a tourist point of view, time.
And this is what happened…
Weather in Florence in December
Actually practically perfect fit for excursion tourism. And yes, in more northern European cities it would probably be called autumn.
After all, throughout December the air temperature in Florence does not try to do not fall below +10-12 °C. And sometimes, literally in a jump, it reaches an almost incredible +15-17 degrees Celsius for this time of year.
Of course, one cannot expect stability. And that’s why in Florence, even at the beginning of December, it can be cool, and the air even by midday barely warms up to +10 °C.

But then without transition warming may happen. And then for a week or 10 days the street thermometers will display much more familiar numbers in the range from +12 to 15 °C.
And at night the weather stops pretending to freeze the streets and people – the air temperature does not drop below +6-8 °C
Cold temperatures down to +5-7 °C during the day and near-zero temperatures at night occur. But they don’t last long – 3-4 days at most.
It is wonderful that at the end of December the weather in Florence is sometimes warmer. So travelers have a chance to catch Catholic Christmas air temperature is about +14-16 °C.
Although purely statistically, you should still count on +10 °C – even on the eve of the New Year. Yes, that’s right – Florence celebrates this holiday in a not quite winter setting.
Rains
The amount of precipitation is significant (70-80 mm). According to statistics, December is the second busiest after November rainy month in Florence.
But the rains (there are also snowfalls) are distributed over the days in a way that is gentle on the feelings of the tourist.
That is, they are traditionally inclement no more than 4-5 days per month. During the rest of the year you can expect partly cloudy or even clear weather!
Do you agree that this is a good gift for someone who is determined to see all the main attractions of Florence and plans to walk for days on end? Or are you even more determined to visit some interesting places in Tuscany?!
Judging by the reviews, by the way, 80 percent of travelers coming to Florence do not miss the chance to “at least glimpse” the historical region over which it reigns…

How to dress
For those visiting Venice in December, we recommend dress almost like winterthen in the case of Florence you can act more frivolously. Because in most cases, a light demi-season jacket will be enough for you. Or even a windbreaker “reinforced” with a sweater.
A hood on the jacket and waterproof boots with thick soles will be valuable benefits. Although sneakers or moccasins may be enough for footwear, there is almost no place to climb the hill here.
In case of a long (4 or more days) visit, you may need raincoat and rubber shoes. Especially if you outline an extensive program of out-of-town events. Because the weather in the region at this time of year changes quickly!
Prices 2025
Awaken desire stay longer. Because for about 100-110 € per night in December you can stay in a good hotel in Florence.
Moreover, it is located not too far from all the attractions
First of all, we advise you to study the offer of BB Hotels Smarthotel Derose. Situated in a quiet street, but very close to both the city center and Florence’s main train station, Santa Maria Novella.
For a slightly larger amount (remember about the city tax – and it’s quite big) you can rent a spacious Macci apartment not far from the Church of Santa Croce.
Most of the tourists who stayed there are incredibly satisfied with its location, as well as the level of technical equipment. All this is against the backdrop of a moderate price tag (125 € for two and 180 € for four).
On minimum level for the year Prices for excursions in Florence are available in December. However, we do not mean the eve of Catholic Christmas and the holiday itself, as well as the pre-New Year dates, when the city again becomes crowded with tourists.
In particular, for most of the month, for a fee of 50-60 € (entrance fees included), you can take a guided tour of the Uffizi in a group of up to 10 people. And after paying about 70 €, you will go on a one-day trip to Tuscany.

During which you will visit Pisa and you will be able to quickly see Siena, and also pay a visit to such a wonderful town as San Gimignano. Not bad for one day, right?!
Things to do
As the information above suggests, during the first month of winter you will almost certainly have the opportunity to plan and implement very busy route sightseeing. Both in Florence itself and throughout Tuscany.
As well as other cities in Italy, it’s simply unreasonable to miss the chance to go to Rome in December!
Travelers arriving in the Tuscan capital for the first time immediately strive visit the local Duomo. Fortunately, it is located near the city’s main station, Santa Maria Novella, and does not charge any entrance fee.
But in order to go up to the observation deck and look at Florence from above, you will have to book a time in advance on the appropriate page. And, pay (30 €), of course.
We also recommend that if you are in Florence not on December 24 or 25, but a little earlier, visit Palazzo Vecchio. And climb its famous tower, which offers impressive panoramic views of the city and even the surrounding area.
To the nearby Uffizi Gallery Even at this time there are decent queues. So perhaps buying a ticket online (uffizi.it/en/pages/how-to-book-tickets), allowing you to enter without waiting, is the most reasonable choice.
As an alternative, try visiting the Palatine Gallery of the Pitti Palace. You will almost certainly have just as much fun, and you won’t have to stand in line at all.
As usual, a feeling of peace and quiet joy will evoke in the run-up to Christmas and visiting Florentine churches.

It has the oldest Renaissance façade in Italy and is decorated inside with works by Botticelli and Ghirlandaio.
Excellent views in both directions open from arches on the Ponte Vecchio bridge. And even better ones – from Piazzale Michelangelo! As if floating above the old city.
Amazingly antique (just look at the stonework) Bargello Castle A must-visit for fans of medieval architecture and art. A Basilica of Santa Croce – those who would like to see Giotto’s frescoes. And bow to the graves of such titans as Michelangelo, Galileo and Rossini.
Where to go
With almost 100 percent probability, a tourist who comes to Tuscany will decide to get to Pisa. Will it be in May or December!
For Pisa is famous not only for its Leaning Tower, on which Galileo conducted his physical experiments, but also the most beautiful cathedral. And also the amazingly graceful church of Santa Maria della Spina, literally hanging over the Arno.
But many people simply don’t have enough time to visit Lucca. Because there is simply no time – after all, 70 kilometers from Florence is located amazing Siena.
Let us also mention such a remarkable town as the UNESCO-protected “City of 14 Towers” of San Gimignano (halfway to Siena). Volterra is incredibly beautiful, and to this day has not received the attention of tourists – especially in winter.
And the cute Tuscan just begs to be one of the stops on your (car?) trip town of Montalcinofamous for its winemaking traditions. While walking along it you will certainly be visited by a feeling incredible tranquility.
