While the popular tourist places of India – agra, the sacred city of Varanasi, the world capital of Yoga, the city of Rishikesh, the sea coast of Goa – crack at the seams from a huge flow of tourists, all the same treasures remain in the country for true adventure lovers.

One of them is Manali’s road – lek -the -high and the highest in the world. It begins in the Ladakh region, the name of which literally translates as a “country of passes”, at an altitude of 2050 meters above the level. The track stretches through the mountains and passes from four to five and a half thousand meters high. Exciting species open here at every turn, which makes the whole journey along Ladakha’s roads unforgettable.

What to go

The distance from Le to Manali is 473 kilometers and is usually overcome in 3 days. Tourists move along this route usually by bus, jeeps or motorcycles. We advise you to choose the latter – there are more impressions.

In the manali there are many rolling offices that roll this service. It is worth noting that in this region the Indians are not shy to set a high price for renting a motorcycle, the price by Indian standards is fabulous – in the region of $ 25 per day. While even in densely populated Goa at the height of the season, half the price will seem quite high.

Take a motorcycle with an engine volume of 500 SS, since a weaker modification cannot cope with the load in the mountains, especially if you are traveling with a passenger. When choosing, it is important to pay attention to the motor. A carburetor engine is better in the mountains than injector, since in the carburetor you can adjust the level of air supply to the motor and thus adapt it to the rarefied high -mountain air.

Do not forget to take a canister with gasoline, because there is no refueling on the route from Keylong to Le. And on one tank it is impossible to overcome this distance. A spare camera for the wheel and pump will not be superfluous.

Every day you will cross several passes, the highest of which is tanlang, 5334 meters high. Of course, the passes are quite cold, even in the summer. Be sure to have windproof clothes and warm things with you.

Where to live

Overnights can be done in cities of Keylong, Sarchu, Pang. In every city there are conditions for tourists, somewhere better, somewhere worse. For example, Keylong has a choice with a dozen guest houses and several cafes. And in Pang, you can spend the night in a yurt at an altitude of 4657 meters under a dazzling starry sky. Housing prices along the entire route are quite acceptable – from 15 to $ 25.

Having reached Le, do not rush to leave. The Old City of Le is included in the list of the World Monuments Fund – World Monments Fund. At the height of the tourist season, cafes, hotels, Tibetan shops and jewelry stores work here. There are several Buddhist monasteries in the vicinity, to which picturesque roads lead.

If you sell the same path on the ground backwardly, local airlines make direct flights to Delhi. Tickets cost around $ 100. Only you need to negotiate in advance about the delivery of motorcycles from Le to Manali, which will cost about $ 150.
