Batumi in May 2026 – is it worth going? Weather and reviews, water and air temperature, whether people can swim in the sea, prices in hotels and excursions. What to do and what to see in Batumi in May, where to go in Georgia – in a similar review by Eurotraveler.
If you want to get out somewhere in May, so that you can go to the sea and inexpensively, then here is an excellent option for you – Batumi. But what, this is Georgia, a visa-free country for many nations (Russians can stay here without a visa for a whole year – up to 364 days)?!
In addition, the country is inexpensive, literally and figuratively very warm. Well, it is replete with beautiful natural attractions. There are so many of them here that you wouldn’t be able to manage them even in a week of active travel.
From our point of view, all this is a reason – and a significant one – to go to Tbilisi in May. And then travel a little more. Both through mountainous Georgia and rushing to the Black Sea.
The latter may well become a real highlight of the trip. As well as relaxing on its shores, of course!
After all, in May it is really warm in Batumi and at times a little hot. Can bathe – if you are at least a little seasoned person and not spoiled by tropical seas. Walk a lot and often taste all these khachapuri and khinkali.
And here at the end of spring it becomes very lively and cheerful. But at the same time it is calm – this seaside city seems to have enough of the bustle created by its indigenous inhabitants. And you are so deeply immersed in the local atmosphere that you seem to forget about the existence of the rest of the world, filled with anxieties and some kind of wild “challenges”.
In general, Batumi in May is a good place. Relaxing and making you believe that there are bright spots in life.
Weather in Batumi in May
Almost perfect fit. If not for swimming in the sea, then definitely for a beach holiday. Not every day, of course, but mostly!
It is difficult to believe in all this, if we consider only the meteorological statistics of past years. Since at the beginning of May the air temperature in Batumi is more likely to live in the range of +16-18 degrees Celsius than to rush to +22-24.
But reading the reviews, and then personal experience, convinces us that in a sunny place it will be not only warm, but simply hot. So after a walk along the embankment or a session tanning on the beach you will want to go somewhere shadier. To eat ice cream and cool down a little…

In the middle of Batumi May the weather will continue to remain approximately the same: very mild, but not conducive to excessive exposure. Although capable of adventurous forays into the region of +25 and even more degrees Celsius.
At the end of May it becomes a little warmer in Batumi. Average daily air temperatures are already well above the +20-degree mark. Although sometimes there are short dips to +17-18 °C.
Are there any open hot periods? We didn’t find one. Although meteorologists claim that Batumi at sunset in spring can heat up to +26-28, sometimes +30 °C.
It is worth remembering that it is much colder at night and in the evenings. And even in the third ten days of May there is a chance to walk around Batumi at night at only +10-12 degrees Celsius.
Rain and sun
They happen infrequently, no more than 4-5 times during the whole month. And this is good news! After all, the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus is famous for its dampness.
The average monthly precipitation is about 60 mm. It’s rainy (usually moderately rainy, no more than 2-3 hours a day) for about 4-5 days.
The probability of a sunny day is quite high. But you shouldn’t be surprised by cloudy weather – not in this area.
Humidity too will be high – constantly. So on a particularly hot day you can feel the stuffiness. And some may not feel too comfortable.
Be sure to take this point into account, and seriously ask yourself before the trip – “am I one of those people”?
Water temperature
Doesn’t inspire optimism! Especially if you want to come to Batumi for the May holidays with the goal of not just walking a lot, but also swimming regularly. Since the water temperature in the Black Sea during this time period almost never exceeds +15-16 °C.
You shouldn’t expect the water area to warm up quickly either. And anyone can guess why: daytime temperatures are not very high, but nighttime temperatures are too low.

But one way or another, by the third ten days of the month the sea warms up to +17-18 degrees Celsius. And at the end of May and beginning of June, the water temperature in Batumi even reaches +19 °C (more is unlikely, the coast here is practically devoid of bends and bays).
Is it possible to swim? We are not able to answer this question unequivocally: it’s worth a try, but regularly? More likely no than yes.
What to take with you
Some kind of insulating clothing in the form of jumpers and sweaters will almost certainly be in demand. Both during evening exercises along the coastline, and – on certain days – in the case of a trip to the Adjarian waterfalls or, in general, to the mountains.
We would also advise you not to forget at home waterproof windbreaker with a hood and some waterproof shoes. Because such equipment can literally save your day if nature suddenly decides to pour heavy rain on the coast.
A good quality sunscreen and (good) sunglasses should definitely be included in your travel luggage. Well, swimsuits and beach towels too.
After all, if you don’t swim, you’ll almost certainly be able to sunbathe!
If you don’t bring your own, definitely buy some beach shoes on site. Because walking on such large stones with bare feet is not very comfortable.
Prices
They are attractive. If not for flights (to catch a “good price” on air tickets, you have to constantly monitor it – for example, here), then definitely for hotels and apartments.
So for 30 € per day you can easily rent not even a room, but something like a studio with a personal kitchenette – Apartment In Batumi MGZAVREBI. Moreover, it will be located, although not on the first line, but not far from all the most interesting things in the city. And a 10-minute walk from Batumi beach.
You will pay about the same amount if you decide to live in the center of the old city. And pay less than 50 € per night for a spacious apartment for three people – Casa Neptun.
Excursions are also inexpensive. A walking tour with a guide through the old center will cost only 16-20 €. For a one-day trip to the surrounding area, to waterfalls and national parks, you will have to pay from 25 to 35 €.

Things to do
A boat trip along the coast will also help to brighten up your leisure time. And the same goes for climbing Argo cable car. Delivering to a seemingly low (256), but simply exceptional observation site.
From which the whole city is at a glance (in the evening, perhaps you will witness a truly stunning sunset)
A very popular local attraction is the Botanical Garden. Which, on the cusp of summer, is also worth visiting because below, on the coast, there is a good (albeit pebble, of course) beach. Getting to the garden is easy; city bus No. 10 goes there regularly.
A little further from Batumi there is the Makhuntseti waterfall and the Queen Tamara Bridge, another place of attraction for tourist interests. Advocates of ecotourism may not fail to pay a visit to Machakhela National Park, a real green oasis.
Where the most important thing is not even to look, but – don’t get lost!
Well, the most active citizens will probably want to see other interesting places in Georgia. And they will certainly get to Tbilisi!
Unless, of course, they come from there to the coast. Why not – traveling to Georgia by car from Russia, although it has become a little less popular in recent years, has not lost its attractiveness and even its special charm.
