Beijing in April 2026 – is it worth going? Weather and reviews, air temperature, how to dress, how many tourists there are, prices for air tickets and hotels. What to do and see in the capital of China in April, where to go nearby – says Eurotraveler.

No matter what anyone says, China amazes travelers. Especially those who are visiting this country for the first time!

If you want this “defeat” to be exclusively positive, carefully plan the time of your visit. Don’t rely solely on your own desires and capabilities (work has finally allowed you to go on vacation), but also study the climate issue.

As well as such a topic as official holidays in the “Celestial Empire” – you will learn a lot of interesting things!

For example, it turns out that it is a good, even great idea to go to China – to the same Beijing – in March and April. And far from being so good, or rather, generally dubious, is to go to journey at the beginning of May.

Why? We won’t go into detail about this here – the reasons are set out in our review of when is it better to vacation in China: spring, summer or autumn?!

But we’ll tell you why you should definitely go to Beijing in April. And we hope that our story will encourage you to take a week or two of annual leave for this task (if you haven’t already saved it!)!

Briefly

  1. When is the best time to go to Beijing? Opinions vary, but the first 2 months of spring are considered great time to travel. Not hot, but not cold either. And also – poor people on official weekends. In addition to Saturdays and Sundays, only the Days of Remembrance of Ancestors, Qingmingjie, April 4-6, will be closed.
  2. Is it worth visiting China in April? In our opinion, it’s not just worth it, but absolutely necessary. After all, this month nature blooms, pleasing the eye with bright colors. Plus, it’s getting warm almost everywhere in the Celestial Empire. And somewhere – in Hainan – it’s even hot!
  3. How do people dress in Beijing in mid-spring? We would say clearly like spring: in light jackets and raincoats, jackets and sweatshirts. On some days you will even meet people in truly summer clothes on the streets.

Weather in Beijing in April

It is likely that he will immediately try to convince you of what a great guy you are. Because mid-spring in the capital of China is fully consistent with established canons and ideas about what this time should ideally look like.

Flowers - the air temperature in Beijing in April even rises to +28-30 degrees Celsius

For the trees are blossoming, the flowers are blooming, the sun is shining and warming, and the sky is turning blue. The air temperature in Beijing already at the beginning of April clearly gravitates towards the level +20 degrees Celsius (in the afternoon). And if it makes deviations to +15-17 °C, then after a day or two it corrects itself.

And he even strives to compensate for the “inconvenience” caused by pushing the readings of street thermometers to +22-24 degrees.

In mid-April, Beijing often experiences simply hot weather with temperature peaks of up to +28-30 degrees Celsius. And at the end of the month you should expect at least +23-25 °C. Although in other years it may be “only” +20-22 °C.

The nights are colder. Moreover, in full accordance with the characteristics of the continental climate – much.

Already in the evenings, air temperatures in Beijing in April quickly drop to +15-17 degrees (in the first half of the month it can be only +10-12 °C). And if on some nights it can be warm (about +20), then even on the threshold of May it can also be completely cold – around +10 °C.

These features are definitely worth take into account when choosing clothes for a trip to Beijing in April. Because you will almost certainly want to take morning and evening strolls around the city.

And how could it be otherwise, if the sun rises over Beijing at the beginning of April at 6 in the morning, and sets below the horizon at about half past six in the evening?! On the threshold of May, the luminary performs similar rituals at 5.15 and 19.10, respectively!

Here is the weather forecast in China for the week – worldweather.wmo.int/ru/city.html?cityId=237.

Precipitation

As promised above, April in the capital of China is a very sunny month. The probability of a clear day is greater than 60%, which means that all or most of your planned activities (walks, city tours and trips to the surrounding area) will go on as planned.

Rains also occur in April. But their probability is low, as are the average statistical volumes. And who might it be afraid of: approx. 2-3 stormy days and up to 20-25 mm of precipitation in total?!

Of course, travelers should consider the possibility that they will be unlucky. Again, they may want to go from Beijing to Shanghai, which is a priori a more damp city.

But also interesting – especially in the middle of spring!

What to take with you

In mid-spring in Beijing, lightweight items of clothing will come in handy quilted jackets and sweatshirts, even pullovers. Easy because you will almost certainly have to walk a lot.

At the same time, of course, do not forget that in the middle of the day it is almost guaranteed to warm up, and you will want to expose yourself. Some people don’t care about dresses and shirts, while others will walk stoically in a stylish jacket or fashionable raincoat.

Shoes must be comfortable and wearable – no stilettos or heels. Well, all sorts of different accessories like hats and sun caps, as well as dark glasses, won’t hurt.

Citizens who burn easily in the sun should take with you travel and sunscreen.

In advance, even before the trip, it is worth considering the question of how you will surf the Internet in China. And stock up on a SIM card for your phone, allowing you to always stay in touch.

Tourists experience some difficulties when trying to communicate with the Chinese – few of them understand not only Russian, but also English. Well, yes – cash in the local currency, yuan, is also unlikely to be superfluous.

Even despite the fact that in China the system of paying for everything using an application on a smartphone has been almost perfected!

Prices 2026

China today has become closer to travelers from Europe than ever before. Primarily thanks to visa policy, a year-long experiment was launched in September to abolish visas for tourists from Russia and the European Union. And secondly, thanks to the reasonable cost of flights.

In particular, flying from Moscow to Beijing and returning back in April 2026 will cost ~50 thousand rubles (~500 €). Which, considering the distances, can be considered a more than reasonable price.

To rent a room in Beijing hotels—not bad ones—in April will cost about 100 € per day for two (breakfast included). In particular, for this money you can stay at the Holiday Inn Express Beijing Downtown.

It seems to be located not in the very center. But at the same time, it is also not far from it – guests can reach Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City on foot in about 20 minutes.

Located next to a metro station and not far from the famous shopping street, the noticeably more expensive Park Plaza Beijing Wangfujing hotel. Guests of which in reviews justify their “wastefulness” with the phrase “the hotel is worth the money.”

However, this is really true: for much more spacious rooms than standard ones, regular cleaning and not “obligatory”, but pleasant little things, it’s not a sin to pay extra!

Forbidden City, Beijing

Excursions are very accessible in the capital of China – both English and sometimes even Russian. For example, for about 20 € you can walk with a tour group to and along the Great Wall of China. And for 15 €, take a walk with a guide (English or Chinese) around the Forbidden City.

Things to do

Since the weather will allow you to visit almost everything planned. And at the time chosen for the trip, do it not in a crowd (especially on a weekday).

Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City are expectedly high on the bucket list for first-time travelers visiting Beijing. Just keep in mind that the best time to explore both of these attractions is in the afternoon.

When the already overwhelming crowds of tourists disperse…

Towards evening, when the sun leans towards the west and no longer hits your eyes, you can climb Jinshan Hill. To reward yourself for a good day with a great view of the Forbidden City from above.

Also in Beijing, you should definitely pay a visit to the Temple of Heaven. And try to find unreal peace in the Buddhist monastery of Yonghegong.

For example, after you run around the shops and souvenir shops on Wangfujing Street

By the way, on this street you can taste real dishes of traditional Chinese cuisine. For example, treat yourself to original dim sum or spicy gongbao chicken.

There is nothing to say about the obligatory trek along the Great Wall of China, especially in April, when the trees blossom and bloom. The only thing, perhaps, that you will have to rack your brains over: go to the nearest section of the wall in Badaling or take a longer trip (but usually excursions there cost less) to Mutianyu?

The Kunming Lake Imperial Palace and Gardens are definitely worth a visit in spring. Located very close to Beijing and therefore easily accessible.

We already said above that it would be nice to go to Shanghai in April. Near which is located an amazing, and in the spring it becomes simply a beautiful treasure of China – the gardens of Suzhou.
