Kazan in December 2025 – is it worth going on vacation? Weather and reviews, air temperature, how to dress, prices in hotels and excursions. What to see in Kazan in December, where to go on New Year’s Eve and a trip to Tatarstan – says Eurotraveler.

Never traveled in December before? But in vain – this is interesting, because non-standard opportunity expand your horizons.

No, we understand, it really does seem like an inopportune time for pleasure trips. And who, tell me, will actually book a vacation right before the New Year? When do all Russians traditionally have at least a dozen days off?

However, there is a reason to go somewhere in December, even in Russia. And actually not alone!

After all, in addition to significant savingsyou have every right to expect to be sightseeing, if not alone, then obviously not in the crowd. Nowadays this is already a lot!

It can take a long time to persuade, but we will move on to specifics. And we will try to convince you that during a trip to Kazan in December – for example – you won’t get bored. And you will receive new and bright, and most importantly, completely positive impressions.

Even though you will immediately find yourself in the most real winter. How unusual is it – in the Central Volga region?!

Weather in Kazan in December

It will be frosty – in almost all cases. And this must be understood from the beginning! Moreover, on certain dates, starting from the start of the month, you should be prepared for noticeable negative temperatures even during daylight hours.

In particular, the air temperature in Kazan sometimes drops during the day in early December up to -8-10 °C (usually, however, it does not leave the range from 0 to -5 °C). After sunset, street thermometers may show something Siberian in the form of -20-22 degrees Celsius.

This, mind you, is even before the first ten days of the month have expired!

Similar frosts in December Kazan, however, continue not too long. So after 2-5 days of cold weather, you can expect warming. Moreover, it is noticeable: up to -2-6 during the day and -8-10 °C at night.

And then like this, moderately coldthe weather may remain in Kazan until the end of December, that is, until the New Year. So, in general, there is every chance that you will celebrate the holiday in the most comfortable, but visually very winter (light frost and snow) environment.

It should be taken into account that at the beginning of January Kazan may freeze again up to -20-25 degrees

However, that’s another story. Which, probably, those who are going to hold in the capital of Tatarstan will listen with pleasure a few days during the New Year holidays.

We’ll get back to the topic. And we emphasize that the reviews of rare travelers who visited Kazan in the first half of December radiate contentment and optimism.

For beautiful and therefore joyful: The city is being decorated with all its might for the New Year. And they don’t spare money for this. And as if wrapped in bright lighting, Kazan looks like some kind of shimmering treasure.

Precipitation and sun

Note that precipitation in December in the capital of Tatarstan is not so frequent, but sometimes snowy. And the probability of a nice clear day tends to a maximum only when severe frosts hit.

Initially, you should prepare for mostly cloudy weather. And when drawing up a walking route, take into account that the length of the day in Kazan around December 22 (the shortest day of the year) is only 7 hours.

Over the course of a month, the sun rises around 8 – early 9 a.m. and sets below the horizon around 3 p.m.

How to dress

By taking with you a decent supply of warm clothes in addition to what you will be wearing, you you’re unlikely to regret it. Although, of course, it’s difficult to pull this off if you’re not traveling to Kazan in a car with an impressive trunk.

One way or another, from all of the above it is worth drawing an unambiguous conclusion about the need to take with you purely winter jackets and down jacketssweaters and jackets, hats, scarves and even mittens. Yes, this is exactly how you need to dress in Kazan both in December and throughout the winter.

It’s better to wear not just warm UGG boots on your feet, but something, albeit with fur, but with low slip

After all, although you won’t have to walk that much on serious slopes, ice of various kinds and extremely slippery sidewalks for winter Kazan this is a completely ordinary thing. And this is worth considering, even if you plan to spend most of your time exploring the city from the bus window.

Motor tourists should be especially careful and attentive during this period!

Prices 2025

In principle – good. That is, they live approximately at the level where they should, given weather realities.

A train journey from Moscow (for example) to Kazan in the middle of December looks like especially attractive. Since ticket prices are not at all “biting”: from 2,300 rubles a seat in a reserved seat costs, from 3,000 in a compartment. One way (11-13 hours on the road), of course, but nevertheless…

It has become much more expensive, but if you divide the amount among everyone, traveling to Kazan by car from Moscow is still not a ruinous undertaking. We mean – along the M-12 toll highway.

As for accommodation, it is the most inexpensive and at the same time the most comfortable option – rent a studio or even an apartment in Kazan

Renting separate apartments located even in the city center will cost 4-5 thousand rubles per day. At allthat is, for a family of up to 4-5 people!

But hotels in Kazan are more expensive, and much more expensive. And those that are located near the city center charge from 7-8 thousand rubles per night for a double room. Depends on the dates, of course. But if you plan a trip for early to mid-December, then you’ll pay about that much for an overnight stay in a three-star Mansion on Teatralnaya. Where for the indicated amount a couple of travelers also will feed you breakfast!

Accommodation in the Tatarstan Hotel costs about 5.5 thousand rubles for two, including breakfast. Reviews especially praise its “excellent” location (1.5 km from the center) and magnificent views of the city from the windows of the upper floors – “the whole of Kazan at a glance.” To all attractions from here can be reached on foot even on frosty December days.

City tours

They often frankly inexpensive – if you do not consider an amount of about 1,000 – 1,500 rubles to be an excessive fee for such entertainment. In addition, sometimes walks with local guides are unconventional in a good way. So much so that the reviews are simply overwhelmed with positive emotions!

The cost of short (3 days/2 nights) tours to Kazan in the December version starts from 25 thousand rubles per person. Moreover, for this money they offer accommodation and meals (you will still have to get to Kazan on your own), as well as a number of excursions.

Including to the countryside Raifa Monastery. And, most importantly, the most interesting fortress city of Sviyazhsk.

Things to do

The white-stone Kremlin with the tower of Queen Syuyumbike, whose touch seems to fulfills a wish, – the first thing a tourist needs to see in Kazan. In December, again, you will be glad stay longer in the Kremlin museums.

Almost everyone will certainly call the second most important attraction of the city pedestrian street Bauman. A walk along which with a person who knows the history of the city can turn a weekday into a holiday.

Is it worth making a long walk through the Staro-Tatarskaya Sloboda? Usually, not a single truly full-scale trip to Kazan can do without this.

But at the time of year described… There probably won’t be anything wrong if you refrain from participating, or shorten its duration!

Almost everyone who comes to the capital of Tatarstan is amazed by the local Ekiyat Puppet Theater – and not even the presentation, but his appearance. Most also sing praises to the city’s new Wedding Palace, a very unusual-looking building.

The city Palace of Farmers is equally large and even pompous. It performs, however, much more mundane functions – the republican Ministry of Agriculture is based there.

Among the iconic seasonal attractions of Kazan we mention large city skating rinks

The most famous one, a kilometer long, is poured in December on the Kremlin embankment. It’s beautifully illuminated and always lively – so you’re guaranteed to get a positive boost.

In most cases, the Black Lake skating rink is also quite good. Also located in the city center, in a huge artificial reservoir created in the middle of the park of the same name – yandex.com/maps/-/CHAUaXnU

Where to go

Many will almost certainly want to take a trip to Yoshkar-Ola in the Mari El Republic. Although it is covered with snow at this time, it does not become any less beautiful!
