Lake Heviz: winter bathing among flowering lotuses

With the onset of cold weather and with the closed Egypt, our beachs with low income defeated despondency. Of course, there are a lot of places on the planet where you can swim at any time of the year, but not everyone can afford them. Meanwhile, in just two and a half hours, the fly from Vnukovo Airport is a completely budgetary thermal resort.

Lake Heviz and the adjacent town of the same name are located in the south-west of Hungary. This is the largest thermal reservoir in Europe with a very active healing “mineral water”, the composition of which would be unique if it were not for an analogue – the Rotorois Lake in New Zealand. You guess about how much the flight to New Zealand and rest on Lake Rotorois will be. But the cheviz can be reached relatively cheap – both from the travel agency and independently.

The lowest prices for flights and housing-from October to mid-December, as well as from January 9th and the end of April. The largest influx of vacationers, and, accordingly, the increase in prices, starting from Catholic Christmas to the first decade of January, and then from May to early September. Winter on the Heviz is soft, the air temperature rarely drops below minus 3 ° C, while the temperature of the water in the lake remains at the mark of 22-26 ° C, and in the coated bath in the middle of the reservoir it is maintained all year round at 32-38 ° C.

Three main factors, thanks to which the cheviz has become popular in people with diseases of the musculoskeletal system: thermal water, peat mud and a unique microclimate. This video will tell about them in more detail and competently:

The full range of procedures and related services, as well as with the prices for them, can be found on the resort website.

By the way, since most Russians work today or sitting (offices),

or standing (trading salons, etc.),

Bathing in Hevisian water is relevant for them – as the prevention of all kinds of scoliosis, chondrosis, problems with the spine, etc.

Where did the lotuses come from in the title? – They were brought from India about 100 years ago. Exotic flowers have taken root in a foreign land and since then delight the eyes with their unique beauty (it is strictly prohibited to tear them). You can understand how much the lotuses are honored here by looking at the official coat of arms of the city of Heviz:

Useful information for independent Heviz discoverers

The fastest budgetary way to get to the Heviz:

  • Hungarian airline-Lawkoster Wizzair, which makes daily flights along the route “Moscow-Budapest”; Time in flight – 2 hours 35 minutes.
  • Bus 200e from the Budapest Airport to Art. metro Kőbánya-Kispest; Departure every 5-10 minutes, travel time 20-25 minutes.
  • 4 stops at the subway to the Népliget station (name of the Central bus station)-this will take 15-20 minutes from force.
  • The comfortable bus of Volánbusz from Nepliget to the Heviz bus station; It is necessary to choose flights of this particular carrier, then the travel time will be 2 hours 40 minutes, the usual “Ikaruses” of other carriers “bow to each pillar” … However, you will be warned of the cashier in Nepliget.

The feedback to the airport will be more expensive, but faster. Since Wizzair aircraft fly out from Budapest to Moscow at 6:05 in the morning, the buses and metro disappear. It is best to assemble a company from 4 to 8 people returning the same flight, and order a transfer from one of two tour operators-“1000 roads” or “Robinson” (offices-on the main street of Heviza; the staff-Russian-speaking). There are a lot of ours here, so the search for fellow travelers will not make great difficulty, just to take care of this issue better in advance, communicating in a bathhouse with compatriots.

Another way: to book a room in the Budapest hotel or even hostel on the last day of stay and in parallel to order online shuttle (site in English),

Around the clock, passengers from anywhere in the Hungarian capital to the airport at an adequate price. This option gives you a day in Budapest, a short dream on a normal bed and arrival at the airport at the right hour.

And finally, the most economical and unpretentious can return to Budapest on the eve of the departure by the last bus Volánbusz (second from Heviz at 18:25),

Then the metro and the bus 200E, but in this case you will have to spend the night at the airport before the start of registration for the flight.

How to find the best housing option

The town of Heviz with a population of less than 5 thousand people is able to simultaneously accept 10 thousand guests. At the same time, despite the small size, it has all the necessary infrastructure – that is, literally “sharpened” for tourists.

In addition to two dozens of spas-free hotels (some of them have their own hotels and spa complexes), almost all residential buildings are guest houses with separate 2-3-4-seater rooms from 9 to 15 euros/night per person. Each apartment is equipped with everything necessary for autonomous residence, including individual kitchens and bathrooms. Breakfast can either be included in the reservation (where they are offered),

Or cook independently from the purchased products, but I would recommend lunch and dinner in numerous cafes, taverns and restaurants, where they serve amazingly tasty Magyar dishes, desserts and wine.

It is better to book housing very much in advance, that is, immediately, as soon as the dates of the beginning and end of the rest are known. When looking for the best option, it is very important to pay attention to the rating and carefully read the reviews of the guests that have already been here.

But the housing was found and booked. First of all, after the Employment, carefully read the booklets and business cards lying in a prominent place: the owners of many apartments have concluded agreements with nearby cafes for a discount for their guests. The owners of some guest houses went even further, having agreed with the resort administration on a discount on the cost of bathing. Free swimming circles that are waiting for you on the beds are also not uncommon.

Bad news: the owners of most apartments in Heviz know German perfectly, but, alas, they do not speak Russian or English. Therefore, I recommend pumping a “Google translator” to your gadget, which is quite successfully solving the problem of communication with the Hungarians.

Good news: in hotels, restaurants and cafes, the Russian language is already in use, there will be no difficulties here. And knowledge of conversational English will help in communicating with local youth, which will willingly answer the questions “What? What? How Much? ”

Sights, entertainment, pleasure

The main street street can be passed with a leisurely step from beginning to end in a maximum of half an hour. From any corner of the Heviz, a cross is visible, crowning the church of the Holy Spirit in the center of the town. There are several more churches, much more ancient than the main cathedral and very interesting in its own way. Original monuments are found, for example, a very sexy nymph in the fountain installed between the mayor and secondary school. I believe that this species from the windows properly motivates both officials and students.

However, the whole town can be examined without making muscle efforts, but sitting in a trailer, led by this funny train (in fact this is an electric car):

Often on weekends, not to mention the holidays, in the central market square of the Heviz, concerts of Hevisian musical and dance groups are organized. The guys laid out in full, for which the audience awards them with generous applause.

In general, there are not so many attractions and entertainments in Heviz, to save time I will omit their description, but I recommend that I will definitely listen to the gypsy violinists, see the Chardash performed by the Magyar dancers and visit the tasting of local wines and products with a subsequent delightful dinner.

To compile a complete cultural program, it is best to go into the offices of the “1000 roads” and “Robinson” mentioned above – there you will be consulted for free and in detail on the topic, and at the same time they will offer a whole bouquet of excursions, as in the region of the hall (many castles, fortresses and the famous “Hungarian Sea” – Lake Balaton),

So more ambitious, with a departure to European cities – Bratislava, Vienna, Venice … (a complete list of proposals can be studied on the sites of these operators).

At the pleasures, in addition to bathing in the lake, I attribute meals in numerous restaurants, cafes and even street-films of the Heviz, where you will be offered a huge selection of drinks and dishes of Magyar cuisine.

And finally: the Hungarian language is very complicated, but try to learn at least two phrases:

  • Good afternoon – jó napot (Yunapot);
  • Thank you – köszönöm (Köson).
