Prague in summer 2026 – is it worth going? Weather in June, July and August, reviews, air temperature and rain, how to dress, how many tourists there are, prices in hotels and excursions. What to do and what to see in Prague in the summer, where to go in the Czech Republic – says Eurotraveler.
Prague is a very tourist city! The number of those who dare to challenge such an obvious thesis is vanishingly small. Everyone, no matter who you ask, is ready to go “even now” to see a “Gothic fairy tale” and wander around the cobblestone streets of the beautifully preserved old city for days on end.
In view of such sentiments, you should be especially careful when choosing dates for your trip to the capital of the Czech Republic. And to avoid frankly peak periods of the year, when there are especially many tourists, advise experienced travelers.
Obviously, June – dash – August refers to precisely such “peak periods”. And this raises questions: “listen to your heart” or listen to the advice of experienced, albeit non-relative people?
In fact, what should those who have a “dream” and plans to go to Prague in the summer do? Right in the near future – again, and that’s when the vacation dates fall?
We can only be kind to such citizens sympathize envy. And to reassure you, not everything is as bad (crowded) as blogs and “eyewitnesses” portray. Well, that is, not always and not everywhere…
On some days in the summer, Prague can be really crowded and you simply can’t breathe from the tourist crowds. And on others, you will be able to walk relatively relaxed, without fear of being crushed.
Enter, and not be carried into, St. Vitus Cathedral. Or almost in silence, enjoy the thick historical aura of the Vladislav Hall.
In addition, in summer Prague it is worth using an ancient, but still working recipe with all your might. Go in a different direction than everyone else, turn off the beaten tourist paths that appear in popular guidebooks…

Again, Prague gets less busy on weekends in July or August! And this is a property of all modern big cities: their permanent residents also want to take a break from the noise and tourists. And that’s why they go on vacation en masse, to nature, to the sea, in the end!
Weather in Prague in summer
One would like to call it… ambiguous. On the one hand, yes: in most cases it will be warm and even hot. On the other hand, the abundance of rain makes you think about traveling to slightly sunnier climes.
However, the weather in Prague in June and July and August is quite good for excursions. If you don’t rely on chance and develop several possible routes for walks and trips at once.
Spend a rainy day exploring palaces, museum collections and galleries. And on sunny days or just cloudy but dry days, you will tirelessly perform marches and counter-marches along the streets, embankments and squares!
June
The air temperature in Prague in early June tends to be in the range of +20-25 °C. This is during the day – at night it can be so cool (around +12-15 °C) that you will be very upset if you find that you forgot your favorite lined jacket at home.
Yes, that’s right, in the evenings you are almost guaranteed to feel a completely non-summer coolness while drinking a regular glass of Czech lager on the green veranda overlooking the Vltava and the palaces of Prague Castle.
By mid-June, things are looking up (depending on what you mean by that, of course). In the sense that air temperatures on a particular day can reach +30 degrees Celsius. But fortunately they do not stay there for long, quickly dropping to the usual +25 °C.
At the end of the first month of summer, real heat comes to Prague. With already regular increases in daytime degrees to +28-30 °C and noticeably warmer nights (about +18-20 °C).
Sunny days do happen, but they rarely last forever. Cloudy or partly cloudy days predominate, with some very rainy days. According to statistics, their number in June reaches 5-6, and the average monthly precipitation is only slightly lower than in May (May in Prague is the rainiest month of the year).

July
According to guidebooks, this is the sunniest and warmest month of the year in Prague. And it is possible that after scrupulously calculating degrees and millimeters it will turn out to be so.
But it is still wrong to call the July weather in Prague stable. On the contrary – and this is confirmed by every second review – the local weather at the equator of summer is capricious and capricious.
Fortune will be favorable – the thermometer will show +28-32 °C (sometimes even +35 °C), and the sky will be enlivened by soft white clouds. You’ll have to drink often and sweat a lot, but you won’t slip on wet cobblestones.
If the traveler is not on a “short leg” with luck, he should hedge his bets a little. By packing more than just short sleeve shirts and sandals into your travel luggage. But also an umbrella and a waterproof windbreaker!
The first one will come in handy while standing in line at the museum. The second one will come in handy during evening walks along the Charles Bridge and the old town.
It is worth noting that even in the middle and end of July in Prague, temperatures down to +20-22 °C are not excluded. Which, on the one hand, seems to have no effect on excursion activity. On the other hand, it’s a little puzzling: is it still a little cold for summer in the center of Europe?
Again, it’s often chilly at night. Sometimes it is only +15-18, although in most cases it is still not lower than +20 °C.
It’s also sad that July is statistically one of the wettest months in the capital of the Czech Republic. On average, in terms of precipitation volume, it is THREE times faster than November!
And very few tourists will go to Prague in November, right? They are afraid of cold weather and incessant downpours!

In August
in theory it becomes drier, but at the same time hotter: at times up to +32-35 °C. Czechs go on vacation to distant lands, but the tables in Prague pubs are not empty.
Because the locals are being replaced by foreigners who have managed to get a tan. Firmly decided to break up the boring beach experience and see Prague in 2 days.
By the end of August, temperatures often begin to fall into the range of +20-24 degrees Celsius. But on some days it can still be very hot – yes, +30 °C and above. The evenings are quite warm, about +20 °C.
It usually rains no more than 4-5 days per month. And we highly encourage you to include in the vacation “equation” the possibility that they will also persist!
Prices 2026
Due to the popularity of Prague in summer among tourists, one should not expect any overly attractive prices in Prague hotels. And yet, attempts to save money will not necessarily fail.
Because hotel rooms cost completely differently on different dates. And, naturally, they are cheapest on weekdays.
Other good accommodation options can be found here.
You can take part in a sightseeing walking tour of Prague with a guide for ~30 €. And for this money you will get a lot of information about the city and its history.
You can also go from Prague on an excursion to Kutna Hory and Karlovy Vary. Cesky Krumlov and even German Dresden. Why not – the duration of daylight hours in summer is maximum, and you will have time to turn around in just 1 day!

What to see
Prague Castle should definitely be on the list of any self-respecting tourist who intends to “see the real Prague” in the first place. You will almost certainly also see the Schwarzenberg Palace, walk across the Charles Bridge, and watch a puppet show in the Prague Orloj on Old Town Square.
Children will definitely enjoy (we are absolutely sure of this) the Prague Zoo. Adults can reward themselves with a cruise on the Vltava or a visit to one (or several) of Prague’s interesting museums.
On warm summer days, everyone, without exception, enjoys going out into nature. And not just to the mountains, but with the goal of seeing the famous Czech castles.
Relatively close to Prague there are castles such as Karlstejn, Konopiste, Kokorin. The first of them can be easily reached by public transport. Those who want to see the other two (and in 1 day) should come to the Czech Republic by car.
Again, it is easy to get from Prague to Hluboká nad Vltavou Castle by private vehicle or excursion bus. In just one day you can visit Cesky Krumlov, a very interesting city with a huge fortress above it…
In the summer heat, trips to the mineral springs in Karlovy Vary are especially pleasant: it is both useful and pleasant. A die-hard traveler will probably take a day and travel by train from Prague to Dresden.
It’s a long way to travel from the Czech Republic to Bavaria or Austria. And it’s worth including these destinations in your travel schedule only if you have the time and money to spend the night there.
However, the distance does not prevent travel agencies and even individuals from organizing day trips from Prague to Vienna and Munich. During which you obviously won’t see much. But you will clearly get the impetus to organize a separate trip to these original cities.
