Sometimes Tashkent even sees snow in winter

Tashkent in January 2026 – is it worth going on vacation? Weather and reviews, air temperature, how to dress, what to take with you, prices for air tickets and hotels. What to do in Tashkent after the New Year, what to see, where to go in January in Uzbekistan – says Eurotraveler.

Traditionally in January many days off. So much so that every year everyone has to solve the difficult problem of how and where to spend the New Year holidays.

And if the majority doesn’t think much about this, making forays to relatives and friends, attending children’s parties and doing things that they never get around to on weekdays, then give the minority something like that.

At a minimum, a trip to Russia, where there are places to go even in January. Well, at the most – you know where, in the direction of some marvelously beautiful and equally warm overseas resorts.

Is there anything in between? Preferably foreign and at the same time not too expensive. Moderately cold, with little snow and lots of attractions?

But what about – in January, Tashkent, like, in principle, the whole of Uzbekistan, can offer tourists a lot of possibilities! Not extreme at all, but exotic and memorable in a good way.

You will then have videos about your January adventures in Uzbekistan nice to rewatch on blizzard winter evenings.

When you want to prove to yourself what is in life – they are definitely present – bright and joyful moments!

What will you face if you decide to travel to Uzbekistan in winter? What will the weather be like in January in Tashkent and other cities of the country? What to take and what to wearhow much exactly will you have to spend to bring such a trip to life?

Now we’ll tell you!

Weather in Tashkent in January

It does not distance itself as much from its “colleagues” in Europe as a traveler would like. However, there are some differences from Moscow or, say, Berlin!

For example, on New Year’s holidays the air temperature in Tashkent can easily rise above +10 degrees Celsius. And sunny days happen not only when thermometers drop below -5-8 °C.

At the same time, precipitation does not fall too often and – most importantly – are not depressingly abundant. So you are unlikely to be faced with the need to cancel a tour of the city or, for example, to Samarkand due to a severe snow storm.

Fie three times, of course, but mostly this one is like that!

In Tashkent in January you may not dress very warmly
When it gets warmer in January, Tashkent doesn’t look like winter at all

However, January 2023 in Tashkent turned out to be very original. That is, at first there was no sign of a shake-up: immediately after the New Year, quite warm weather settled in the capital of Uzbekistan. And until the tenth day the sun obediently warmed up air up to +8-12 °C.

But then, after a heavy snowfall, unprecedented frosts came to the city. During the day it reached -12 °C, and at night in the vicinity of Tashkent -20 °C was recorded.

And also the capital of Uzbekistan covered in snow for the first time in decades – dzen.ru/a/Y8wTtYI4dBVUYnfo

This winter riot lasted almost 10 days. After which the cold loosened its grip, and in the atmosphere warmed up to 0 degrees and even a slight plus.

The end of January in Tashkent was marked by temperatures in the region of +2-5 °C. The city seemed to be recovering from shock, unable to believe that it had just experienced such, in the literal sense of the word, bone-crushing cataclysm.

But!

an ordinary January in the Uzbek capital much softer. The weather remembers the limits and tries not to leave the range of +4-12 °C during the day and +1-4 °C at night.

Fits? And we’re talking about the same thing!

Just don’t forget anyway dress generously. In case of such accidents, which were not foreseen by anyone.

And tune in for the best! Who knows, it may very well be that celebrating the New Year in Tashkent and several days spent there in early January may turn out to be harbingers positive changes in your life?!

To the author of this review with a lot of encouraging photos, for example, everything I really liked it!

On January 1, the sun rises over Tashkent at about 8 (7.50) in the morning, and sets below the horizon 9 hours and 15 minutes later – at 17.05. At the end of the month it does the same thing at half past seven in the morning and at 17.40.

The length of the day thus increases from 9.15 to more than 10 hours!

What to take with you

For Russians to enter Uzbekistan, as you know, no visa needed. They will not have to register immediately after arrival – such an obligation arises only after 15 days of stay in the country – uzbekistan.mid.ru/vremennoe_prebyvanie_v_uzbekistane/.

For a minor traveler traveling with one parent or without them at all you will need a notarized power of attorney from absent parent(s). But it is not necessary to take out medical travel insurance before your trip.

But, as many reviews emphasize, it is advisable to do this. Because Uzbekistan is mountainous country. Which in winter also becomes icy in places.

Please note that the tourist tax is paid from the first day by all traveling non-citizens of the country

We have heard that in Tashkent and other local cities Russians can apply for cards of international payment systems? With which you can pay without any problems, either on the Internet or anywhere abroad?

This is true! But to obtain the coveted plastic card, you will have to get an Uzbek tax number and share your fingerprints with the system.

The entire procedure is described in detail here – vc.ru/806828-kak-poluchit-rossiyaninu-kartu-v-uzbekistane-moy-opyt.

Prices 2026

Air travel from Moscow to Tashkent and back in January, starting around the 8th-9th, will cost at least 26-30 thousand rubles. That is, approximately the same amount as in December – it is obvious that the winter months in this direction of the airline not considered “high season”.

As for hotels, they cost… differently. The most expensive ones, like the Hotel Marwa Tashkent Pool&Spa we took as a standard, will cost about 80 € for a night’s accommodation for a couple of people with breakfast in January (but after the holidays).

We recommend you and excellent, but inexpensive Avant Express Hotel Pool&Spa. For two guests in January you will have to pay only 35 €. Breakfast is included in the price, a swimming pool and sauna are available, Magic City is nearby

What is Magic City? About this, as well as about other interesting places in Tashkent that you need to visit, in a separate review!

Prices for excursions in the capital of Uzbekistan and beyond less subject to seasonal fluctuations — The only thing that drops significantly is the cost of out-of-town trips to the Chimgan Mountains. An audio performance combined with a walking promenade around the city costs a low 15-20 €, an audio walking tour will cost 100+ € for all participants.

Prices for excursion trips (by train) to Samarkand are most stable. Indirectly hinting that the tourist interest in this city does not fade even in the coldest months of the year.

Things to do

Sightseeing auto-pedestrian walk around Tashkent in January with a guide, during which you will see all the most interesting things, starting with Hast Imam Square and its religious complex – the fastest and warmest solution to the issue of attractions.

With its help, you will be able to form the right impression of the city in a comfortable environment. Heavily damaged by the 1966 earthquake and therefore having lost most of the historical adobe buildings.

Don’t want to spend money on a tour and expect to be able to see everything on your own? Almost certainly this will turn out with a bang – harsh winters, as mentioned above, bypass the capital of Uzbekistan.

The latter, however, is best done in the morning at “Pilaf Center” at the Chorsu market: and eat to your heart’s content and don’t overpay.

Yes and with a real oriental bazaarlocated, however, in a fairly modern building, meet

Also, reviews strongly recommend visiting the local Museum of Applied Arts. It has a rather large and very atmospheric collection of objects, partly housed in traditional oriental interiors.

After which, of course, you definitely need to get and see Samarkand. It’s best if you allocate for this at least 2 days– which is especially reasonable in conditions of low daylight hours in January.

Despite the relatively cold weather, it is worth including in the itinerary of a January trip to Tashkent visiting other cities of Uzbekistan. Both Bukhara, which can be easily reached by train from Samarkand, and magical Khiva.

Or maybe even Kokand?! Conveniently nestled in the middle of the warm Fergana Valley, and for some reason extremely rarely visited by foreign travelers!
