In France, more than a thousand medieval villages, 156 of them are included in the list of the Association of the “most beautiful villages of France”. Today we will talk about the most interesting of them.

3. Mittelbergheim (Mittelbergheim),

This village, whose name is first mentioned in the annals of 741, is located in the very center of Elsas’s winery, 40 kilometers from Strasbourg. Mittelbergheim lies at the foot of the Mining massif Vogys, surrounded by vineyards, and most of its houses were built from the 15th to the 18th century. The main historical buildings: the Church of Saint-Etienne of the 19th century, the town hall of the Renaissance era and the medieval street Ryu de Montigne.

4. Le Baux-de-Provence in Provence

The village of Le Bo lies on a rocky ledge, from where dizzying views of Arl, Alpilles mountains (small Alps) and the entire Val-D’enfer Valley open. Olive groves grow at the foot of the cliff. The village consists of two parts: narrow streets with elegant houses of the 16th century, gardens, fountains and a dead city separated by a fortress shaft on the edge of the cliff. The dead city is called the ruins of a huge castle of BO and the houses surrounding it.

5. Barfleur (Barfleur),

Barfleter is a fishing village on the banks of the La-Channel, known for the fact that from it in the 11th century the conqueror sailed to conquer England. Most houses in the village were built of gray granite in the 17-18 centuries. Historical attractions: a garden of the Augustintian monks, the courtyard of Saint-Katerin, and the Church of Saint-Nicol. The main local delicacy is the most tender oysters.

6. Conk (Conques),

The heyday of Konka fell on the 12th century, after the construction of the abbey of Saint-Fua, where pilgrims went from all over Europe. Konk almost did not change from the Middle Ages, its main attractions: Saint-Fua Abbey, a medieval treasury, la Mazon Du Fraysu and the European Center for Medieval Arts with a huge collection.
