Barcelona in April 2026 – is it worth going? Weather and reviews, air and water temperature, whether you can swim and how to dress, prices in hotels and excursions. What to do and see in Barcelona in April, where to go in Catalonia – says Eurotraveler.
It is obvious to us that people travel mainly to get new, exciting experiences. For the purpose of relaxation (beach holiday, first of all), of course, too. But the main goal, albeit sometimes unconscious, at all times was the desire to see something original, and for a long time – or better yet forever – memorable.
And spring in Catalonia is perfect for this. Tight, juicy, fresh! She seems to personify hope for the best and a powerful desire for life.
Is it any wonder that every first tourist goes on a trip to Barcelona in April full of expectations? Even if he only has a few days, he can spend them all in the most intense way in the capital of Catalonia!
For example, in Barcelona you can celebrate Catholic Easter (in 2026 this holiday is celebrated on April 5). Or make another “strong move” – come to take part in the colorful Feast of Sant Jordi?!
By the way, this is a very far-sighted plan! And don’t be confused by the fact that summer is still far away, and the water in the Mediterranean Sea does not have time to warm up sufficiently by mid-spring (read: you will hardly be able to swim)!
After all
Weather in Barcelona in April
as good as it can be! At least from the point of view of those who are interested in having a fun time and getting a lot of bright emotions.
There will almost certainly be warm but not hot. And it will rain exactly as much as nature needs in order to bloom vigorously.
Even in early April in Barcelona, the daytime air temperature regularly stays in the range of +14-18 °C. And by the middle of the month, residents and guests of the Catalan capital are pleased to see +20 degrees Celsius and above on street thermometers.
Then the weather returns to its usual pattern for Barcelona at the end of April. And weather forecasters usually promise in the area +17-22 °C during the daytime, and at least +12-16 °C at night.

Yes, in some years it can be colder, and significantly. Therefore, do not be surprised if exactly on the holiday of Sant Jordi, which is April 23, the air temperature does not rise above +13-15 °C. And the sun will only appear sporadically from behind the clouds.
It happens that April ends on such a note in the capital of Catalonia, and also in the rain. But in most cases, air temperatures in Barcelona in mid-spring are slightly higher…
And the reviews are therefore literally oozing with inescapable optimism!
Precipitation
It rains quite regularly in Barcelona in April. But in general, for the entire month no more than 4-5 stormy days (average monthly precipitation is 45-50 mm).
And tropical downpours are an almost fantastic phenomenon.
Usually the matter is limited to light rain, which can hardly ruin the excursion plan. Especially if you were so prudent that you took with you waterproof windbreaker with a hood and sneakers with thick soles.
Although the Internet is full of reviews and those who, during their trip to Barcelona in April, were never forced to open an umbrella or put on a raincoat.
Note that humidity remains at a healthy level throughout the month. And only on the wettest days does it leave the 50-70% range.
Water temperature
There is an opinion that even at the end of April you cannot swim in the Mediterranean Sea in Barcelona. But like any “iron rule” there are exceptions – there will always be those who want to get into the sea with a temperature of +15-16 degrees Celsius.
And it warms up to these values at the end of the second month of spring
Of course bathing on the coast of Catalonia in April does not become widespread. But some of those tourists who bask on the Barcelona beaches in sunny weather and +20 degrees (in the local sun this temperature feels like +25 °C) want to cool down.
Well, or simply unable to stop yourself from swimming at the sight of such a joyful turquoise sea glinting in the sun!

How to dress
We recommend not to count on unrelentingly warm weather and to anticipate the possibility of its deterioration. Because throughout April, cold snaps occur regularly in Barcelona.
Well, or they are able to do it – at the most, usually, inopportune moment. Again, morning or evening +5-7 °C require an adequate response in the form of not even a jacket or sweater, but lined jackets.
It’s still not worth taking anything warmer, even if you plan to visit Montserrat. Or go to some other mountains nearby – where you can go from Barcelona for 1 day.
But it’s still worth putting some stock of open summer clothes in your suitcase. We are almost sure: light dresses and short skirts, shorts and T-shirts, sandals will come in handy in Barcelona in April.
Because one day you won’t be able to resist opening up to the sun and warmth!
Prices 2026
There is no point in counting on March realities in the middle of spring in Spain. Prices are creeping up and doing so very actively.
In particular, if you want to stay not at a huge distance from the historical center of Barcelona, you need to cook from 170-200 € per night for a double room.
The hotel, of course, has its own bathroom and toilet – accommodation in hostels is cheaper. Don’t forget about the tourist tax, which in Barcelona in 2026 is quite high.
The actual city tax for tourists is 4 € per night per person. In addition, guests will have to pay a regional (Catalan) fee. Which varies from 1.7 to 3.5 €/night per person depending on the level of the hotel.
As for specific accommodation locations, we, for example, see no point in overpaying for a location and regularly choose the rather affordable (as far as possible in Barcelona) La França Travelers. Located about 10 minutes walk from Plaza de España (and next to the metro station), and in principle very good.
Would you like to stay closer to the old center? Then head straight to the Hotel Rialto in the Gothic Quarter. Which usually plays in a different price league. But sometimes he makes offers that are hard to resist.
Walking tours of Barcelona in mid-spring cost from 40-45 € per person. Moreover, sometimes the program includes not only a walk with a guide around the city, but also a tasting of the famous tapas with Catalan wine.
A tour of any one local attraction, be it Park Güell or the Picasso Museum, costs from 25 € per person. A one-day tour to Montserrat will ruin the traveler by at least 55-60 €, depending on which program you choose.
Things to do
On April 23, Barcelona and throughout Catalonia celebrate one of the favorite and most colorful holidays here – St. George’s Dayor Diada Sant Jordi. According to legend, a valiant Roman warrior, later canonized by the church, once defeated a dragon here and saved the king’s daughter.
This is on the one hand. On the other hand, in Catalonia they have gone further and use roses and books as symbols of the holiday.
The first ones are given to women on this day – they personify the lake of dragon blood
The second ones are for men, and they have nothing to do with the ancient legend. But they directly relate to Barcelona – on April 23, 1929, it was here, during the World Fair, that they decided to celebrate Book Day.
And so it happened – so don’t be surprised that on this date the whole of Catalonia is flooded roses and books.
The holiday is actively celebrated throughout the region. On the eve of April 23, the center of Barcelona is occupied by dozens of tents with books and flowers.
And by noon, a huge number of people gather on the main pedestrian artery, La Rambla.
Naturally, tourists do not stand aside either. Many of whom come to Barcelona at the end of April to watch the festival.
Or maybe even become participants in a colorful and memorable festival. Have a truly local Valentine’s Day!
What to see
Whether you arrive in Catalonia at the end of April or the beginning, it is quite natural that the lion’s share of your time will be spent on the streets, beaches or in nature. For example, in the vicinity of a huge city.
In any case, this behavior in April seems to be the only correct one!
There is no doubt that you will find time to visit the Sagrada Familia. After all, examining the gradually completed construction of Antoni Gaudi’s brainchild will not get boring on your second, third, and subsequent visits to Barcelona.
In any case, a thinking and impressionable person will always discover new meanings. And it will probably even receive a powerful creative impulse.
People who appreciate architecture will probably want to see look and other creations of the great Gaudi. And not only that – there are many interesting places in Barcelona.
And, among other things, there are enough architectural monuments of Catalan Art Nouveau, created by real geniuses!

We also recommend visiting the Picasso Museum. The size of the collection is second only to its Parisian counterpart.
And, of course, you need visit National Palace on the Montjuic hill to see examples of Catalan creativity.
In front of the palace in the evenings the Magic Fountain sings and glows. And from the steps of the stairs there are wonderful views of the city and surrounding area.
If you are traveling with children, you should definitely visit the local Aquarium in Barcelona. Possibly the best in Europe
And also spend some time on the embankments and wide sandy beaches. At least to decide whether it might be worth returning to Barcelona in May to go swimming.
And also spend more time here!
Walking through the Gothic and Jewish quarters and La Rambla, visiting Park Güell, and taking the funicular to Tibidabo have long become mandatory activities for travelers. Every year the number of those who discover new interesting places in Catalonia is growing – even if not right next to Barcelona.
Where to go
Of course, you should plan an out-of-town trip to more than just Montserrat Monastery. Which, even if it is the most famous landmark not far from the capital of Catalonia, but still not the only one.
The medieval town of Vik is very beautiful, just an architectural fairy tale from past centuries. You will undoubtedly remember your April trip from Barcelona to Andorra. Including the low cost – at the end of the ski season, prices in the principality fall.
A tiny mountain principality with an ancient history, by the way, does not oblige Russians to stock up on Schengen visas to visit. But you can only get there from completely visa-free territories – France or Spain!
We invite you to visit Figueres in April to see the Salvador Dali Theater-Museum – when, if not at a time bursting with new energy, can you visit such a futuristic and unusual place?
It’s also definitely worth honoring the ancient (and seaside!) Tarragona with your presence. It has preserved many architectural monuments from the times of the Roman Empire.
On the way to Figueres, if you are not going there as part of a tour, you can stop for a day in Girona. It’s not a touristy city at all and therefore an extremely peaceful city. Also preserved a large number of historical buildings!
