The Lycian trail is a popular tourist route in the south of Turkey, stretching 540 km along the coast of Ancient Lichia. The trail is well marked and suitable for passing to all people leading an active lifestyle.
Lycian trail: where and how to get

It is not necessary to pass it entirely – all the most picturesque areas are concentrated in two parts of the route. The eastern origins from Antalya and runs through the mountains, and the western begins at the town of Fethiye and stretches along the coast.
The closest to the western part is Dalaman airport. From Moscow to Dalaman, with a transplant, planes fly all year round, and with the beginning of the summer season, direct flights open. We recommend that you stop fluid and purchase the necessary products and hygiene products. Next, you need to catch a local minibus in the village of Olyudeniz, from where the Lycian trail originates. Transport often goes, the fare is $ 1–1.5.
The airport closest to the eastern part of the path is Antalya – direct flights from many Russian cities fly there all year round. From the airport, you can get to the city by comfortable train. If immediately from the plane you intend to go to the starting point of the route, to the village of Goynyuk, then you must first get to the bus station by bus No. 600 or 600A and make a transfer there. Buses to Goynyuk go every 20 minutes, the road will take about an hour and a half. Payment of the fare is made to the driver.
The specifics of the western and eastern part of the path

The eastern part is crossings through mountain forests, ascent to the majestic Takhtaly-Dag and magnificent views of the coast. Western – archaeological monuments of ancient Lycia and nights on the seashore.
East

The route originates in the village of Goynuk, in the canyon of harmony. From the suspension bridge you will open views of the turquoise waters of the river and white sheer cliffs of the canyon. Next, the path will bring you to the village of Gedelm, where in addition to the ancient fortress there is a store where you can buy freshly baked bread, sweet bars, nuts and other necessary supplies. By the way, there is a gazebo with sockets nearby, where you can recharge your gadgets.
From Gedelme, the white-red marking of the Lycian path leads through pine forests to Mount Takhtala (Olympos). The ascent usually takes 4-5 hours. Tourists leave heavy backpacks at the foot and lightly climb the 2,365-meter peak. The rise is gentle enough, therefore, if the weather is good, you should definitely try your hand. Incredible panoramas of the mountains and coasts open from the top.
Through the villages, Beychik and Ulupinar, the trail descends to the sea, in Chiralla – the end point of our route. The place is famous for the long pebble beach and bizarre trees growing along the coast. Stop for several days at a campsite or hotel to lightly inspect the attractions located nearby. You can visit the ancient city of Olympos, where the amphitheater ruins have been preserved, or go up to the lights of chimeras, which are hit directly from the ground. Fry sausages, bread, marshmallows on the fire – you will remember such a picnic for a long time.
To return to Antalya, go to a nearby Mavicent on a minibus or taxi, from there the bus goes to the bus station. You can also take a taxi and leave for Antalya directly from Chiral.
West

The official beginning of the Lycian path is located in the suburbs of Olyudeniz, in the village of Ovajik. There is an arch with the inscription Lycian Way, which officially opens the route. At the beginning of the journey, you have to climb the dirt road up the slopes of the Babadag Mining massif. Gradually, the road will turn into a thin forest path, and views will open from the vertices to the stunning bay of the olyudenis.
Next, you will visit the butterfly valley – a secluded bay among sheer rocks, where more than a hundred types of these beautiful insects live. Dozens of tourists go down the stone steps to swim in the Mediterranean Sea and admire the winged inhabitants of this place.
The beach of a tavern is suitable for an overnight stay – in the shade of trees you can set up a camp, and then swim into the sea after a busy day. It is also worth visiting Pataru – the largest sandy beach of Turkey, stretching 18 km along the sea.
Having admired natural beauties, you can begin to study ancient architecture. Not far from Patara is the largest city of ancient Lycia – Xanthos (Xanf). Acropolis, the Roman theater, the royal palace and other historical monuments are waiting for you here.
From a patara to Fethiye or to Dalaman, you can return on a minibus.
What to take with you

In the mountains in the spring, snow can still lie, and even by the sea it is cool by nights. Therefore, it is important to collect a backpack correctly – take warm things, do not forget about the tent and choose a sleeping bag according to the weather.
The right backpack
It should be roomy and have a strong belt belt. A high -quality belt will ensure the discharge of the back – with its help you can avoid overload and rubbing the shoulders with straps.
As an option, you can use the Red Fox Nanda Devi 65L model. A spacious backpack is sewn on the principle of the bag – it does not have internal partitions. Such backpacks are not loaded with excess “lotions”, and therefore weigh only 2.2 kg. The model has a convenient compartment from below: you can put things there, which are usually needed first of all upon arrival at the parking lot – a tent, woolen socks, and interchangeable shoes.
Tent
When choosing a tent, be sure to take into account the number of “residents”: if you are going to spend the night alone, do not take two-, and even more so three-seater model. Naturehike offers light options – a single tent gathers in a compact handbag and weighs only 1.5 kg. The company has a pleasant price ratio and offers tents with places for one, two or three travelers. You can see and order goods in specialized stores or at AliExpress.
Sleeping bag
Here is the same principle – it should be easy, but at the same time warm enough if the weather is dank. On a hike along the Lycian path in March, we recommend taking sleeping bags with a comfort level of 0 °.
Household items
You will need a pot, mug, spoon, bowl, knife, matches/lighter, flashlight. Fans of coffee can take a Turk with them – to cook and drink a cup of coffee in the campaign gives a special pleasure. Do not forget to take personal hygiene products: small soap, toothbrush and paste, roll paper roll, as well as wet wipes.
Patch
Take a patch and antiseptic napkins. Thorns, cuts, splinters are minor troubles, which are better to be prepared for. In order not to burn in the sun, stock up on a tube of a sunny protective cream with a protection level of at least 30 SPF. Capture those medicines that you usually use in everyday life.
Personal things
A sweatshirt from fleece, a couple of t -shirts, underwear and socks, shorts, any pants or leggings, and thermal underwear should be sent to the backpack. At night in the forest, it is pleasant to throw Pukhovka on the shoulders, and the membrane jacket will save from the rain. Panama and buff will help out from the sun and wind. For daily transitions, convenient tracking boots or sneakers are suitable, and it is convenient to move in sandals or croxes in the camp. Take a swimsuit if you are ready to open the swimming season in March.
Food
Taking drypikes from Russia is definitely not worth it! The route runs through the villages, where you can eat and replenish the supplies of provisions. But take care in advance about the basic things that are enough for a long time (olive oil, dry milk, coffee, honey, etc.) – it is cheaper to buy them even in fluids or Antalya.
Congratulations – now you are ready to go on a hike!
