The Light Feast will be repeated a year ago will again be held in Lyon from December 8 to 10.
If in 1643 the Lyonians knew the beginning of what a spectacular and large -scale festival their holiday would put, they would probably be very surprised. However, then the reason for the fun was significant – local residents arranged an illumination throughout the city in honor of the Virgin Mary, whose intercession, as they believed, saved Lyon from the plague epidemic. The celebration was on December 8th. And even if the modern festival is far from religiosity, but a strong metaphor, embedded in the 17th century, is read now: in the dark and longest nights of the year, the light helps people get rid of fears, misfortunes and hardships. No wonder, to see fête des lumières, several million tourists come to Lyon annually.

I want to in Lyon

There is something to see. More than 70 light installations created by the best world artists specifically for Fête des lumières – they can only be seen here and during these three days. Bizarre light projections on the walls of ancient quarters, lanterns and garlands on narrow streets and wide avenues, laser shows in squares and amazing multimedia art objects in cozy courtyards, squares and parks-the Lyon festival, unlike other similar events, the event is really a citywide. Locals and those in the evenings light candles in houses and offices to create a special atmosphere of the holiday. The main platforms will be the historical district of Prekil, the Old City and Square in front of the Cathedral of Fourbier. The festival website allows not only to study the descriptions of the preparatory installations, but also to lay the route (with the calculation of the distance and the required time to overcome it),

To see as much as possible if possible.

Last year, due to the tragic events in Paris, the Lyon Fête des Lumières was canceled. This year they decided to spend the holiday, but with a number of restrictions. The festival will pass within three days, and not four, as before. And the illumination itself will be turned on from 20.00 to midnight. To enter the festival venues and exit from them, you will need to take an inspection, similar to the inspection in the fan zones of football stadiums. In the area, automobile traffic and parking will be prohibited. But public transport will work for free. The entrance to the event will be free.
