The movement in Nepal is right -sided, as well as an incredibly high tax on the purchase of a car. Only a very wealthy Nepalev can afford an Indian small -leaf, so if you see a brand new Hyundai Solaris, then, for sure, this is the president of Nepal.
Once in Kathmandu, the first question that arises from tourists is how to get from the airport to the city. There are two options – a taxi or a bus.
Taxi
You need to take a taxi not from the airport itself, but it is better to go to the road 500 meters. From the airport, the cost will be 700 rupees (390 rubles),
From the road approximately 400 rupees (225 rubles).
A taxi is usually small cars where your bags are most likely thrown onto the trunk on the roof. If it happens, then check that the suitcases lie well and do not fall along the road.
Taxi prices can always be clarified at the reception at the hotel. Nepalians are very helpful and even help to catch a taxi. Yes, there are no air conditioners in a taxi.
Bus
With buses, everything is quite simple and napal. There are no numbers on the buses, there are no differences in color either, the names of the stops are not written on the windshield. How to figure it out? In each bus there is a special person who shouts the route along which the bus follows, he is also a conductor. You need to name your area, street, or the nearest well -known landmark. Most likely, the first time you canโt find the right bus. My maximum is the 5th bus.
If you catch the bus in the wrong place, the conductors themselves will tell you where the stop of the route you need.
They shout not because the bus park does not have money for making tablets, but due to the fact that a huge percentage of the local population are illiterate people who do not know how to read.
The bus travel costs an average of 45 rupees (25 rubles),
And the cost depends on where you are going. I usually gave 100 rupees (50 rubles) and I was always given change, even if I went long distances.
The ceilings in the buses are very low, because they are designed for low non -fans, and if your height is more than 180 centimeters, then get ready to go like this.
From the airport you can get from the same point where I advised to take a taxi above. Look in advance on the Internet which area interests you and what kind of attraction is with it – a park or a large street.
Minibus
This is a very tiny mini-ven, in which up to 40 Nepalians are usually packed. They go a little faster, the driver can tell you the stops, the fare is like on the bus. I could not fit with my growth there. If you want easy extreme or show – you here ๐
Bikeriksha
In addition to buses, taxis and minibuses, there are also bike ricks. They are intended more for the entertainment of tourists, because it is cramped, inconvenient and strongly shaking them on local off -road.
Metro, trolleybuses and trams are not in sight here.
Rent of transport
Automobile
Itโs very risky to take the car to Kathmandu – there are no roads, there are no traffic lights anywhere, and everyone goes as they want. Signs are sometimes found, but no one looks at them, as well as at double solid ones. Police are a rarity, they can only be seen at the largest intersections, where they are definitely needed.
Bike
If we take, then take a mountain bike, this is still not Amsterdam, where everything is thought out for the convenience of cyclists. For 5 days, I did not see a single rental point in Kathmandu. But if you still decide, here is the website for the rental of bicycles (Russian!).
Scooter
The scooter can be rented at all without rights – they are asked, but no one is checking. Police will stop you only if you grossly violated the rules of the road. Although, how can I break the rules if they are not? ๐
Be careful on the roads and put on a helmet!
