Cappadocia in March and April 2026 – is it worth going? Weather and reviews, air temperature, how to dress, prices for air tickets and hotels. What to do and what to see in Cappadocia from March to April, is it difficult to get there on your own from Istanbul or Antalya – says Eurotraveler.

Cappadocia is a Turkish region whose “stocks” are clearly on the rise. An increasing number of tourists wish to personally see “fairy fireplaces” and have a bird’s eye view of those very famous landscapes, pictures of which are full of Instagram.

In recent years, it has begun to truly develop independent travel format. Which could well be called something like this: “travel around Cappadocia by car and bring back more impressions from there.” Of course – only positive ones!

Note that outside the peak season, such a rally can even be called inexpensive pleasure

By the way, what is the high season in these parts? Is it true that it starts in late spring?

And if so, will a trip to Cappadocia in March or, say, April help you not only save money, but also see all the interesting things? not in the crowd? Do you agree that at this time of year you shouldn’t wait for buses with holidaymakers from Antalya?

What circumstance will allow active tourists develop fully! And whether in March or April, you can walk around Pashabag and other valleys of Cappadocia without fear of bumping into competitors.

In addition, hotel prices in the region are in early to mid-spring… But wait a little, we will leave this delicious “dessert” for last!

Weather in Cappadocia in March

Really good and even very! At least, from the point of view of those who understand a lot about long walks on rough terrain, replete with hills.

Because in winter here you have to take into account the possibility of frost, cutting winds and icy paths. And in the summer in the middle of the day in Cappadocia it costs nothing get heatstroke.

Even if you took enough water to water indoor palm trees!

At the beginning of spring here nothing freezes or melts — the weather is quite even and very comfortable (for hiking expeditions). So if you give your beloved Cappadocia on March 8, and even from a balloon basket – the gesture will be appreciated!

Here is how much a hot air balloon flight costs.

The air temperature at the beginning of the month (in the valleys) easily reaches +12-15 degrees Celsius by noon. And at night it is not always so willing to drop below +10 °C.

Yes, at dusk in March in Cappadocia noticeably colderin some years down to sub-zero temperatures. But such a weather trick will not surprise anyone in the region.

Again, if you take with you enough warm clothes and provide good heating or, especially, a fireplace when ordering a hotel room – this will not create any inconvenience at all.

Again, there is no particular need to wander everywhere on foot. Because you can rent a car right at Kayseri airport for absolutely exorbitant prices – from 20 € per day for a “budget” to 24-26 € for a Ford Tourneo Courier.

As for hotels, most no heating problems observed. After all, even cave hotels in Goreme, so beloved by travelers, usually do not skimp on this.

Sometimes it gets to frosty temperatures, and sometimes more than once or twice a month – amazing, isn’t it?!

For example, in other March the weather in Cappadocia gives such surprises even during the day. And in the middle of the month, temperatures can drop to -2-5 degrees Celsius!

Clear days do happen. Although initially you should prepare for mostly cloudy. With a not enormous, but still probability of light precipitation.

It also happens…

It also happens differently – March in Cappadocia turns out to be fundamentally different, but also not without surprises. Since during its course the air temperature may make an attempt more than once or twice climb to +15 °C.

And then, as if going crazy from his own courage, in a semi-fainting state he will collapse into the range of +3-5 °C.

Again, the month is capable of ending distinctly minor note. Literally on the threshold of April, puzzling everyone with near-zero temperatures.

Nature and travelers

Note that already at the very beginning of spring, trees and shrubs gradually begin to bloom in the region. So by the end of March, Cappadocia sometimes dresses in, albeit very conventional, but green “clothes”.

By the way, there are relatively few tourists at this time. And most prefer not to go far.

For example, there are a lot of them only near the balloon launching area, churches in the Open Air Museum in Goreme. Well, and – naturally – on famous observation points or in souvenir shops in towns like Avanos or Uchisar.

In the valleys themselves hardly have to watch pandemonium. Moreover, your (extremely small) excursion group may be the only one on the “Green”, “Blue” or “Red” route.

Cappadocia in April

enjoys much warmer sunny and dry weather. Alas, tourists are also increasing.

You might say, from where, since most people don’t have the tradition of traveling in the middle of spring?

And we will answer that Western Europeans: Germans, British and French go on a trip to Cappadocia in early to mid-April. Those who are excited to see the world during the short Easter holidays. And sometimes a short vacation attached to them.

The air temperature in Cappadocia in mid-April during the day sometimes reaches +18-20 degrees Celsius. Although average values are lower, in the range of +12-15 °C.

There are dips below +10 °C, but it never reaches frost.

The sun often stays in a partly cloudy sky. Precipitation is quite rare; it rains no more than 3-4 times a month.

Respectively the winds calm down. As if they had finally realized that with their furious pressure they were ruining the business of merchants and depriving travelers of opportunities look at the earth from above.

How to dress

What clothes should you take to Cappadocia if you go there in mid-spring? Nothing special – that’s it what did you wear on the street? in your hometown, go there.

Extreme cold cannot be expected, but open foothills and caves frozen over the winter dictate quite a certain format of clothing. Autumn or warm winter jackets, comfortable, albeit not insulated, boots, sneakers or mountain boots – all this is taken with them or immediately put on by prudent tourists.

Hats don’t have much chance of being useful. Although, like gloves, sometimes (in case of frost) they come in handy

For example, if you love sit for a long time or on the rocks, looking into the distance and into yourself. Or they are not themselves before long walks in remote areas like the Ihlara Valley.

Yes, and when flying in a balloon, similar equipment will definitely come in handy. Let us note, by the way, that warm or at least clothing that looks warm will not hurt during high-altitude expeditions in Cappadocia and at other times of the year.

Motorists – getting to Cappadocia by car from Istanbul is not particularly difficult – will probably wear clothes that do not restrict movement sweaters and sweatshirts. Plus, insulated quilted vests are an indispensable item in conditions of not very stable weather.

And as we said above, renting a car or even a minivan at Kayseri airport will cost (minimum) at 20-22 € per day. The offer is too good to ignore the benefits it provides!

Prices 2026

First, we will tell you how much they offer to stay at hotels in Goreme on March 8 and neighboring dates…

Since there is a clear revival in demand in the spring, price tags are also creeping up. But to rent something decent by shelling out about 60-70 euro coins per day (if you book early – no later than December), it’s still possible!

And first of all, we will draw your attention to the (personally tested) Shoestring Cave House, where for the indicated amount and in a spacious room you will be accommodated even a small family (2 adults and a child). Prepaid breakfasts and stunning hot air balloon views included!

Keep Peace Stone House in stock as a backup. An even more inexpensive, rated (8.7) hotel, also located near the center of Goreme. But, alas, not a cave)

A direct flight from Moscow to Istanbul and back will cost 30-35 thousand rubles (with hand luggage or small luggage).

You will probably have to pay for the trip to Ankara a little more. But getting from the Turkish capital to Goreme is easier than from the shores of the Bosphorus!

Experienced travelers sometimes make a maneuver by buying a sea tour – especially since in early spring they are inexpensive. And then it’s easy to get from Alanya to Cappadocia by bus…

However, moving along Turkish highways, albeit of excellent quality, is a dubious experiment, because very tiring. And you can’t vouch for safety on such a trip – the “skills” of Turkish bus drivers have already become legendary.

We have given the approximate cost of renting a (spacious) car above. A liter of 95 gasoline in Turkey today costs about 1.2 €.

Things to do

In general terms, the program of activities is clear to 90 percent of travelers. For in Cappadocia, either in March or in April, you need to see the valleys and in general wander around a lot. Climb rocks and caves, take photographs.

A must visit one underground city – for example, Derinkuyu

And also at least a couple of ancient rock churches, where frescoes from the Byzantine period.

You can find out which valleys are worth visiting and where they are located in our material.

Naturally, it won’t do without flying over Cappadocia in a hot air balloon – an attraction that seems to be in demand by one hundred percent of tourists.

Some people are aiming for maximum comfort and a reasonable number of “accompanying” people in the basket. And others are insensitive to tightness, but are determined to pay a noticeably smaller amount for pleasure.

After all, 130-150 € for entertainment for several hours – expensive even not for Turkey.

By ordering a place in your cart in advance and paying the entire amount at once, you can save money. At the same time, taking a rather serious risk – money, “if that”, will be refunded only in case of no flight ball due to bad weather.
