Florence in March 2026 – is it worth going? Weather and reviews, air temperature, how to dress, prices in hotels and excursions. What to do and see in Florence in March, where to go in Tuscany and Italy – says Eurotraveler.
Tuscany – most popular among foreign tourists the historical region of Italy. True, with one caveat – it is popular from May to mid-October.
At a time when the local hills and vineyards are dressed in life-affirming green outfits!
This is also the time of year when most travelers come to see Florence, the administrative center of Tuscany. And, at the same time, a large city with an exceptionally rich history and a lot of perfectly preserved architectural monuments.
Should you join the current trend and pay top price for a trip to Italy? We don’t think so – after all, in other months, in particular, in March Florence is immensely beautiful and capable of charming no less than in the summer months.
Are you afraid that it will be cold and damp? Will the rains interrupt your most interesting city tour at the most inopportune moment?
In vain – the capital of Tuscany welcomes spring early! So you have every right to hope that it will be warm and sunny in Florence at the beginning of March.
Therefore, you will almost certainly have time to realize all your
Excursion plans
And not only in the city – one day you will even be able to go see Tuscany. Who wouldn’t want to visit Pisa and San Gimignano, explore Siena, visit some distillery and taste the most famous of the local wines – Chianti?!
We’re not even talking about a good chance to get out further. After all, any tourist would be happy to visit Rome even in March? Or, for example, Venice?!
Interesting? From our point of view – definitely!
That is why we tried to thoroughly clarify the issue. And we personally visited the place!
Weather in Florence in March
It can frankly surprise those who know geography and remember that Tuscany is located much north of Rome, that is, most definitely not in southern Italy! Because even at the start of spring in this region very optimistic!

Not on an ongoing basis, of course, but you can expect that already at the beginning of March the air temperature in Florence during the day will reach +12-14 °C.
In the second ten days of the month, the atmosphere often warms up to +18 degrees Celsius. And in some cases even up to +20-22 °C!
Not a bad gift for someone who arrived from the city, which at this time is still lying among the snow? So we think the same! Even despite the fact that at night it is guaranteed to get cold to +6-10 °C.
The weather forecast for the second half of March in Florence consistently promises above +15 °C. In many cases you will see as much as +20 degrees.
Nature blossoms vigorouslyenjoying the early warmth. And rare tourists praise their own foresight, trying some original Italian dessert at an open table on a sunny morning.
So that later, without queues and not in a crowd, you can go to see the Florentine Duomo and Giotto’s bell tower. Or, for example, visit the Uffizi Gallery, which at this time of year sees a small number of visitors (compared to the summer season, not in general).
Precipitation
It rains infrequently in Florence in March – on average 3-4 times a month. So calling this month cold and damp, as some guidebooks do without a shadow of a doubt, obviously not worth it.
However, humidity is often high (about 80-85%), which makes the weather somewhat chilly. But there’s nothing you can do about it – the “Flower of Tuscany” is located on the banks of a large and fairly deep river.
The chance of a sunny day is about 50%. But even on a cloudy day at the beginning of spring, you will find something to do – you can go to a lot of interesting places in Florence.

And if you are visiting this city not for the first time and have managed to see literally everything, travel around Tuscany: by train or car. After all, this region, like no other in Italy, full of real treasures.
The duration of daylight on March 1 in Florence is not much more than 11 hours: the sun rises above the horizon at 6.50 am and sets at 6 pm. On the threshold of April, the length of the day increases to almost 13 hours!
What to take with you
Despite clear signs of spring, local weather in March cannot boast of stability. As a result, warm days quickly and without warning give way to very cool ones.
So the main advice we can give to tourists who are interested in the question “what to wear in Florence in March” is to take with you enough light clothing that will allow you to stay warm on a chilly day.
In particular, hoodies and sweaters, cardigans and lined windbreakers will not be damaged. That is, everything that, if necessary, can be easily removed and put it in your backpack.
Should you take any evening wear with you to a respectable Florentine restaurant? This is not necessary – even if you wear regular jeans or cotton trousers, you will not stand out from other visitors.
You can take a light scarf or neckerchief with you from home. After all, they will not only warm you up on a cold day, but will also add zest to your appearance.
Italians themselves love to dress stylishly and appreciate this skill in foreigners
We recommend wearing sneakers or other lightweight shoes with fairly thick and textured soles on your feet. Because many of the streets in the center of Florence are paved with paving stones, which over the centuries have been polished almost to a mirror state by tourist feet.

Will you need umbrella or raincoat? This is not excluded, but taking the second one with you is much more practical.
Because by opening an umbrella over you, you will from time to time experience serious inconvenience when trying to miss other pedestrians on the streets.
Prices 2026
The old center of Florence is small and can easily be explored by a tourist in a few hours. Therefore, there is no need to overpay for a hotel located next to Piazza della Signoria.
Since at a distance of 0.5-1.5 km from it there are places more inexpensive objects placement. Like Hotel Bavaria, where a couple of travelers can stay in March for about 90 € per night. The hotel occupies a 16th-century building that literally exudes a thick historical aura.
It is worth understanding, however, that either the bathroom or the toilet in this hotel will be common with other numbers. But there is a Conad supermarket nearby. A visit to which will allow you to purchase popular and high-quality Italian dishes for dinner, such as pizza or ravioli.
In the historical center of Florence, a 5-minute walk from the city’s main station, Santa Maria Novella, lies Hotel Nella. Where in early spring, for a fee of ~140-150 € per night, you can rent a small but very cozy room with oak balusters on the ceiling.
Excursions
in Florence no more expensive their “brothers” in Venice or Rome.
From 40-50 € it costs to participate in a 2-3-hour walking route around Florence, which includes a visit to the Accademia Gallery. For approximately the same amount, you will be given an individual tour of the Uffizi Museum.
By paying 80-100 €, you can go on a trip to Tuscany from Florence. During which you will visit not only ancient towns, but also wineries!

Things to do
Despite the fact that sales in Italy and Florence, including, end at the beginning of March, you can easily spend an hour or two of your time for shopping. Because even in normal, non-discount times, you can buy a lot of interesting things in the capital of Tuscany.
You would probably like to bring a stylish leather item from Italy. Florence and Tuscany in general are historically considered the main centers of their production.
Again, in local enotecas and even supermarkets you can buy a good bottle of wine at a good price!
As for boutiques, their concentration in Florence is maximum on Via de Tornabuoni – there you can buy original items from Armani or Versace. Fashionistas should also visit the shops on Via della Vigna Nuova, where it is easy to find designer shoes and clothes.

What to see
As for attractions, the first thing we recommend is that you purchase a ticket in the Uffizi. Indeed, in March the famous gallery, which in other years was recognized as the most visited museum in Italy, sees far from the maximum number of guests.
We recommend visiting Academy Gallery and pay a visit to the Bargello Castle. Art lovers will be happy to see Raphael’s paintings at the Pitti Gallery.
Almost every first-time tourist will want to walk through the halls of the famous Palazzo Vecchio. At one time, they saw the greatest geniuses of mankind: Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, Raphael.
After which a trip to the Arno embankment looks like a completely logical step. And (for example) a selfie taken on the city’s oldest bridge, the Ponte Vecchio.
Florence Duomo? The obligatory nature of visiting it is not even discussed, especially since entry inside is free (but a ticket to Brunelleschi’s dome and Giotto’s bell tower must be booked and purchased in advance – duomo.firenze.it/en/access-the-monuments).
We would also advise you to look into Basilica of San Lorenzo — admire the sculpture by Michelangelo. And to the Florentine Church of Santa Croceone of the chapels of which is decorated with incomparable frescoes by Giotto.
Where to go
Around Florence, Pisa is definitely worth a visit in March. Which is far from just “The City of the Leaning Tower.”
Naturally, getting from Florence to Siena is highly recommended. An amazing, one-of-a-kind city, whose old part has been preserved unusually well.
If time permits, take a day to explore San Gimignano, the “City of 14 Towers” - noted, by the way, by UNESCO. For citizens traveling around Italy by car, we definitely recommend getting to Montalcino.
A town in the vicinity of which the most expensive (or maybe the best?) wine in Italy is produced.
