Georgia in April 2026 – is it worth going? Weather and reviews, air temperature, is it possible to start swimming in the sea, prices for air tickets, hotels and excursions. How warm is it in April in Tbilisi, Batumi, and other cities of Georgia, is the ski season still ongoing, what to see and do – says Eurotraveler.

It’s no secret that many people use April for… interim leave. Usually short – something that seems impossible to spend two or even three summer weeks on.

The most important thing is that this vacation should be too expensive!

After all, most families save money for a vacation literally all year long. And they treat ideas about long or expensive trips in the off-season with healthy skepticism.

However, visiting Georgia in April cannot be considered an overly expensive undertaking. After all, if air tickets are expensive today (but you can get to Tbilisi by car on a budget), then everything else: hotels and excursions, and food in cafes and restaurants, on the contrary, incapable of ruining and a poor tourist.

Again, a trip to Georgia in the middle of spring promises a “whole carload” of bright and positive impressions. Even if you have never been a skier and are going to admire the snow-covered slopes (at best) from a decent distance.

After all, there are so many interesting places in Georgia. And the panoramic views here in general – some of the best in the world.

Much the same can be said about local specialties. Unless, of course, you love good wine, kebabs and khachapuri!

Weather in Georgia in April

It seems to be very good. The perception, of course, greatly depends on what you are more inclined towards: leisurely walks through the old quarters, and then khachapuri with wine in a restaurant, or active recreation?

Because, for example, in Tbilisi it is already warm in April. But in Gudauri, and this resort is located a little over 100 kilometers from the capital of Georgia, skiers are still grooming the slopes.

The coast: Batumi and others like it… in general, there is no reason to start preparing for the beach season. Although at times it becomes not just warm, but even hot.

So much so that you want to get into the water and cool off a little

It is worth noting that the air temperature in Georgia in April is completely unstable. And he walks widely.

For example, in the resort Batumi today it may be +10 °C. And in just a couple of days – as much as +22 °C.

The same goes for Gudauri! You are waiting for a weak plus or better minus. And the weather at this Georgian resort in the first ten days of April “delights” you and your skis with a frank spring of +10-12 °C.

In the capital region, in some years in the middle of spring, even during the day, near-zero temperatures. And almost every review talks about the evil winds descending from the snow-capped mountains and upsetting tourists walking around the city with their jackets open.

However, in most cases, Tbilisi in early April enjoys moderate warmth of +10-15 degrees Celsius. And looks forward to the continuation!

By the end of the first ten days, or by the middle of the month, it already reaches +20-22 °C.

And before the May holidays… but no, there are often problems with the “continuation of the banquet”. And air temperatures, instead of marching to heights at +25 °C, often fall back to +15 °C.

Nights

even colder. However, not so much that you curse the very idea of travel – rarely falls below +8-10 °C. And in the middle and end of April, even after sunset, the air does not tend to cool below +12-14 °C.

Note that May following April in Tbilisi and Georgia is much more more optimistic. And at times it’s simply hot – the delayed spring seems to be in a hurry to correct its slowness.

Precipitation

It doesn’t rain very often: it’s usually stormy in Georgia during April no more than 4-5 days per month. If we are talking about the central and coastal regions of the country.

But in the mountains – like Gudauri or Svaneti – it may well be snowing at this time. In addition to the load that still continues to cover the ground.

Sea temperature

About swimming better not to think about it – this is not Alanya, which in the middle of spring simply provokes you to take sea baths. In the Black Sea, during this period the water warms up to a maximum of +14-15 °C – and then at the end of the month.

In short, it’s still too early to swim in Georgia in April. Therefore, even in Batumi you will see few people who dare to go into the sea.

Although on some days the weather seems to hint that it would be nice to freshen up

How to dress

Well, what can I say – with meaning! Expecting the best, but preparing for the worst: during almost any trip outside the Georgian capital, you can feel the urgent need for warm clothes.

There’s no point in denying it – we’ll go by car – in fact, you’ll need a thick jacket. Because even on sunny days, the April winds in Georgia literally chill to the bones.

So bring both jackets and coats, woolen cardigans, even hats, scarves and thin gloves. In most cases, mountain boots are unnecessary – even on an excursion trip to Gergeti you can easily get by with regular sneakers.

In the case of Batumi, it seems unnecessary to talk about shoes with thick soles – here it’s time to think about things that are taken to the warm sea. If not about swimsuits, then at least about sunscreen and sunglasses.

But for those who are planning to climb the Georgian mountains in April, insulated shoes will come in handy. Especially if they are going to visit Svaneti?

Where winter never comes from in no hurry to leave. Why, the slopes of the Tetnuldi resort are filled with fans of winter sports and all kinds of freeride almost until the May holidays.

Prices 2026

Air tickets for a flight from Moscow to Tbilisi and back will cost ~50-60 thousand rubles per person. Depending on whether you fly to Georgia on a direct flight or decide to save money by “subscribing” to a transit one.

But a trip from Belgrade will be much cheaper – you will have to pay about 20-25 thousand rubles for air tickets in both directions.

But inexpensive hotels – even in Tbilisi. You can find a double room near the center of the Georgian capital for only 40-50 € (sometimes even less) per night.

Moreover, there is no need to complain about the quality of both the room and breakfast (usually included in the bill) – B&B Old Tbilisi.

The KMM Hotel located in Metekhi also looks very attractive, despite the higher price. Where you will taste breakfast on the terrace with a beautiful view of the Assumption Church and Dzveli Tbilisi!

Similar or even slightly less money is asked for accommodation in Batumi. Since the popular seaside resort is being actively developed with seaside skyscrapers, and the offer is here still outpaces demand.

With a little searching on the Internet, you can probably find a great inexpensive option right on the first line. It seems that Sea View Apartments in Orbi Residence Batumi are simply doomed to popularity.

Tours

The cost of multi-day tours in Georgia in April seriously depends on the expected program of events. But you should focus on the level of 60-70 thousand rubles per person.

If your plans are to see the whole country in about 5-7 days (you will have to get to Tbilisi from Russia at your own expense). The indicated amount usually includes both accommodation and excursion services, as well as meals.

Things to do

It’s definitely not worth sitting still. Even those who come to catch the edge of the ski season should definitely set aside a day or two for sightseeing in Georgia.

Moreover, the distances in the country are small! And in just a few days you can visit many interesting places

Naturally, you should definitely see Tbilisi in Georgia, no matter where you plan to stay on vacation. Walk along Rustaveli Avenue and the old town, ride the cable car over the Kura River, visit the Narikala fortress and Mount Mtatsminda…

The ancient capital of Georgia also appears on the list of “must see” Mtskheta and the Jvari monastery, standing separately on a picturesque cliff. The Georgian Military Road – if it is not blocked due to an unexpected spring snowfall – and Church of the Assumption in Gergeti.

In recent years it has become increasingly popular Sighnaghi in Kakheti. Mainly thanks to the romantic aura (“city of love”) and the carefully reconstructed old town.

And also because of the stunning views of the Alazani Valley. The main wine-growing region of the Transcaucasian country.

Having settled in Batumi, it makes sense not only to take a tour of the atmospheric city center, but also to get outside the resort.

For example, visit violently Adjara, blossoming at this time. Walk along the arched bridge of Queen Tamara across the Kura River, see the ruins of the most ancient fortresses in Georgia: Gonio and Gvara.

It won’t be amiss visit Imereti: swim through the Martvili canyon, explore the Prometheus cave. It is quite possible to get to Kutaisi – the Bagrati Temple there is considered one of the main attractions of the country.

Tourists who do not want to sit on the coast for a long time will reach the harsh mountain Svaneti on the border with Abkhazia. They will see the Svan signal towers and at least from afar will glance at the mighty two-humped Ushba.

The highest mountain of Georgia, always attracting climbers…
