In the Kudablin project, we send completely different people on traveling at our expense! Julia Pankova visited Rome: she disgusted the local cuisine, visited the Vatican and felt like one of the heroines of the films Federico Fellini. Read more – in her report!
My Roman holidays began with Fiumichino Airport, from where I planned to get to the city in the fastest and cheapest way – by rail (the cost of Treno Regionale train ticket – 8 euros). At Ostiense station, I moved to the metro on the line B and after 20 minutes already stood at the hotel door.
From the Seiler Hotel, where I stopped, it was not far from the main attractions. After half an hour of a measured step, passing through the narrow streets, I saw with my own eyes what I read about in school textbooks on history. The Colosseum attracted my thoughts and, every minute I wanted to know about this grandiose building as much as possible. I managed to make only a few frames, as heavy rain began. Gray thunderclouds in a matter of minutes covered the sky, not leaving a single bright strip on it. I had to urgently change plans and look for a free table in a cafe nearby. At that moment, sitting with a glass of red Italian wine, I felt like one of the heroines Federico Fellini.
The first day of acquaintance with the eternal city approached the end. I did not try to visit all museums and architectural monuments, because it is impossible to do this. In Rome, you need to walk. Walk a lot! On each street there are sculptural and artistic masterpieces, and the original canvases of ancient artists are stored in numerous churches and cathedrals. A strong impression on me was made by the voluminous fresco of the Renaissance in Sant ‘Ignazio di Loyola. You can admire a painted ceiling for a long time, until the neck gets tired.
The next morning the heat is again. The city was red -hot. Drinking fountains with pure water saved from thirst, allowing you to fill the bottles each time for free.
If you are in Rome for the first time, then do not rush. Just walk, take the pizza ahead and enjoy Jalato. Start morning with hot cornetti and coffee, and then go for a walk. Go to Trevi Square, where you can already hear the noise of the fountain water from afar. Rise to the Spanish staircase, and through the Square of Navon, go to Pantheon. Do not miss the Navona Notte pizzeria, which you can not notice, since it is hidden on a quiet street. Pizza here is what is needed.
On the trip, I did not forget that in Rome I had to complete the task. The Italian, whom I met on the rubbering website, did not come to the meeting and I had to get out in another way. I managed to try the national pasta with artichokes with a Mexican who did not refuse and take a picture of me. The language barrier was not an obstacle, and we had a great time.
By the evening of the second day, my legs were buzzing and bending as after a march. I sat down at the table of one of the restaurants of the district of the trasteuver, where I chose Spritz without thinking twice. How do I feel at the time of the Italian Aperitiv. You order a glass of something, but in the end you get free access to the salad bar: chips, olives, sandwiches and classic Italian sandwiches “Tramezzino”. There are no metro stations in this area, you can only leave the tram from there, the last of which I safely missed, giving preference to conversation with the Kucheryov waiter. There was no other choice of how to take a taxi. After about ten minutes opposite the restaurant, a car stopped, while the Italian was sitting for about forty. She did not speak English. White wavy hair, carelessly collected in a bunch, gave her the appearance of an aristocratic lady. On the ancient streets, lanterns were lit, the avenues were filled with in love pairs and ordinary Romans.
All day before flying home, I dedicated St. Peter’s Council in the Vatican. She climbed five hundred and fifty steps to the top of the dome and saw the most open view of Rome. Please note that buying input tickets is possible only in cash. And it is better to come to the opening to avoid a long line under the scorching sun.
On the way to the airport, I caught myself thinking that in Rome there would be few and two days and two weeks. The city left an unforgettable impression and desire to return here again!
