It is curious that the word “landscape” in Chinese is indicated by the word “山水” (“Shan Shui”). The first hieroglyph is translated into Russian as a “mountain”, and the second as “water”. And what do these two words give us in total? That’s right, waterfalls. There are a lot of waterfalls in China. We will get acquainted with the most beautiful of them in this article.
I want to go to China!
1. Waterfall with Huangguoshu
Location
Name in Chinese: 贵州黄果树瀑布
The best time to visit: Summer and autumn
Entrance: until 15:30 – 180 yuan (1,470 rubles); After 15:30 – 270 yuan (2,200 rubles).
The Juangosha waterfall is the largest in China. And together with twenty neighboring, he forms the largest group of waterfalls on the planet, listed in the Guinness Book of Records. The Juangosha waterfall is located on the territory of the National Park of the same name, which is known for untouched relict forests and endemic plants.
Closest to the waterfall is the city of Guyang – the capital of the province of Guizhou. Direct buses regularly run from the city. Travel time to the tourist zone of the Juangosha waterfall is two to three hours.
The best time to visit is the rainy season, that is, summer and autumn. We recommend that you come to the park early in the morning, before tourists fill it up in order to feel the greatness of this place in a calm atmosphere.

2. Hukou waterfall (Hukou)
Location
Name in Chinese: 壶口瀑布
The best time to visit: summer
Entrance: 100 yuan (815 rubles)
Hukou waterfall on the Huanghe River is the second largest waterfall in China. It is located on the border of two provinces: Shanxi and Sheanxi. From the Chinese language, the name of the waterfall is translated as “the neck of the teapot”.
The easiest way to get to the waterfall from the city of Sian. The road one way by car or bus will take from one and a half to three hours.
The trip is best planned for July, immediately after the rain season. At this time of the year, the water level in the yellow river is especially high due to Tibet’s lumping snow. Watch how the streams of water, as they fall, change their color from yellow to gray, and from gray to blue – the spectacle that is not comparable in its beauty.
3. Waterfall Datian (Detian)
Location
Name in Chinese: 德天瀑布
The best time to visit: The middle of summer
Entrance: 80 yuan (650 rubles)
The Datyan waterfall is located on the border of China and Vietnam. The main part of the waterfall is located on the territory of China, and only a few ducts spread out on the Vietnamese side. Datyan is surrounded by rice fields and bizarre dosin karst hills. In the lower reaches of the waterfall there is a large lake. On it you can swim on bamboo rafts.
The large cities closest to the waterfall are Guangzhou or Shenzhen. Of these, by train you can get to the city of Daxin. From Daxin, in turn, to the tourist zone of the waterfall, only an hour drive by car (or bus).
The best time to visit the waterfall is mid -summer. At this time, the flow of flowing water is the largest. In winter, the Datyan waterfall should not be visited, a weak current and constant fog will spoil the impression of this miracle of nature.
4. Waterfalls in the Park of Jiuzhaigou
Location
Name in Chinese: 九寨沟
The best time to visit: autumn
Entrance: 160 yuan (1,300 rubles)
The National Park of Tszyuchzhaigou is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is difficult to choose words to describe all the beauty of this place with numerous color lakes and multi -level waterfalls. The most famous of them is a pearl waterfall, which is a curtain of water 28 m high and 310 m wide.
The name Zyuchzhaigou is translated from Chinese as “Valley of nine villages.” In a 50-kilometer valley covered with thick bamboo and coniferous forests, there are indeed nine Tibetan villages, in seven people still live.
Due to its remoteness and isolation, Zyuchzhaigou is difficult. The nearest major city is Chenddu. You can get from the chanddu to the place by bus or car. The path will take 10 hours. There are sometimes rockfalls on the road, and in a rainy season – landslides, which can be added to the trip for several hours. This is a budget option. A more cost option is to fly to the highland airport Zzyuchzhaigou Juanlun. It is located at an altitude of 3447 meters. The road from it to the park will take only an hour.
The best time to visit is late autumn, when the foliage of trees acquires yellow, orange and red shades that contrast so well with the azure color of the waterfall.
5. Jiulong waterfall (Jiulong)
Location
Name in Chinese: 九龙瀑布
The best time to visit: spring
Entrance: 95 yuan
The Julun waterfall is located in Yunnan province. It is considered the widest in all of China. The waterfall is actually not one – this is a group of cascades, consisting of nine flows. It is not surprising that the name of the waterfall is translated from Chinese as “nine dragons”.
The city closest to the waterfall is Luopin. It is easiest to get to Luopin from Kunmin by train or bus (and you can fly to Kunmin from anywhere). From Luopin to the waterfall you can get by taxi; The road will take about half an hour.
In the end, a little advice: it is best to plan a trip to spring, when field flowers begin to bloom on the surrounding waterfall – this is very beautiful.
