Istanbul in April 2026 – is it worth going on vacation? Weather and reviews, air and water temperature, how to dress, prices for air tickets, hotels and excursions? Do tulips bloom in Istanbul in April, what to see and where to go, travel to Turkey in mid-spring – says Eurotraveler.
Istanbul is a city where I want to come back. And let only a small number of tourists vacationing in Turkey come to this conclusion so far. Every year their number will increase!
Because this is inevitable. Once you discover that the giant metropolis on the border of Europe and Asia does not like to rush feverishly and in general mildly concerned anything in the world, reserve time to study it leisurely, as the understanding settles in your soul how good it is in Istanbul!
After all, you can come to it not to run around sightseeing, but solely to immerse yourself in relaxed, calm outlook.
In the mornings, drink coffee and eat breakfast on the hotel terrace overlooking the Bosphorus. And then – sail along the strait on a boat.
Wander sometimes busy, but sometimes quiet streets. On magical velvet evenings, watch the illuminated Galata Tower and bridges…
Take a walk in the blossoming Gulhane Park or the gardens of the Sultan’s Topkapi Palace. Visit ancient Byzantine churches and only slightly less ancient mosques.
Yes, and I’m drawn to travel somewhere from Istanbul in the middle of spring like a magnet. Don’t just take a stroll to the Princes’ Islands, but travel in detail – all the way to Troy and Ephesus, even Cappadocia!
And all because in April Istanbul is especially fresh and energetic. If in March local nature hints that it intends to bloom, then a month later it actively puts the idea into practice.
And then
The trees begin to become covered with bright greenery, the sky takes on soft blue shades, and the Bosphorus shimmers with the brightest turquoise. So much so that you should wear sunglasses when looking at it.
And most importantly, city parks and squares are covered at this time bright carpets of blooming flowers. There are, of course, the most tulips – they are literally the personification of Istanbul in spring. But there are also delicate irises with hyacinths and daffodils.

They say that in order to catch the peak of flowering, you need to come to the shores of the Bosphorus no later than mid-April. Is this true? We’ve got it figured out!
Weather in Istanbul in April
The first thing travelers planning to visit the city in the central month of spring need to realize is that summer is not yet on the way. Usually dquite cooland when the wind blows from the Sea of Marmara, it’s generally chilly.
In any case, that’s how it feels sometimes! Despite the fact that the air temperature in Istanbul in early April readily exceeds +15 degrees Celsius. And at times it even reaches +20 °C.
Yes, it’s rare, but there are exceptions – sometimes in the first ten days of the month several days in a row are not above +10-12 °C. But statistics stubbornly assert that the likelihood of warm weather much greater.
The atmosphere in Istanbul warms up to +17-20 degrees Celsius in mid-April and at the end of April. It almost never happens, interestingly enough!
At night the air cools down to +8-12 °C
Again, there is no need to talk about the stable nature of the weather. Because fluctuations in air temperatures are very significant. So tourists should be careful!
It rarely rains in April in Istanbul. And it almost never comes down to rain.
In reviews you can find references to weak, but quite persistent rains. And although such vagaries of nature happen in Istanbul only 3-4 times during the entire April, you should prepare for them.
Wearing a windbreaker with a hood, taking an umbrella with you for a walk. Well, or by planning a route that allows you to hide within the walls of a museum or at least a cafe.

The sun does not shine directly in the sky from sunrise to sunset, the probability of a clear day is about 50%. However, even a cloudy day in ex-Constantinople will turn out rich and bright – if dress “correctly”.
Note that the length of daylight at these latitudes at the end of April reaches as much as 14 hours. So don’t forget to take sunscreen and some other things that are absolutely necessary in this climate with you to Istanbul.
How to dress
Shorts and sandals are definitely best left at home. Instead, put them in a suitcase an extra sweater or sweatshirt.
In this case, it is assumed that you will go on the road in a sufficiently windproof and simply warm jacket. And put on sneakers or comfortable boots on your feet.
Few people will need hats, but for small children it is better to take them. The same goes for scarves.
Finding frost in Istanbul in the middle of spring is a rare “luck”. But in general, it’s cool here in the evenings, and on the shores of the Bosphorus it’s cool in general.
Keep this in mind if you want to admire the magical views of the sunset or (especially) the city at night!
Prices 2026
If you can get tickets for direct flights from Moscow to Istanbul and back for less than 300-350 €, that’s already good. Especially if you manage to fit into the indicated amount the transportation of not only yourself, but also your luggage!
The cheapest way to get from Sabiha Gokcen Airport to the European part of Istanbul is by public transport (for example, metro plus ferry). As for the New Airport, its transport infrastructure is constantly being improved, adding the ability to get to the Gairettepe metro station via the M11 express metro line.
Travel by public transport with Istanbulkart will cost less. It doesn’t matter what you choose: bus, tram, metro or ferry.

Staying at a hotel even in the center (European part) of Istanbul will cost 60-70 € per day for two. There are plenty of offers at this price and even lower, so tune in painstaking selection of options.
From our point of view, the almost optimal choice is the Ada Hotel Istanbul, a few hundred meters from the Blue Mosque. We especially praise the condition of its rooms and the professionalism of the staff.
And also: delicious breakfasts, views from the terrace and the most convenient location – you can walk to the most interesting places.
A little even cheaper (usually), although in terms of location it is in no way inferior to the Grand Peninsula Hotel in the Sultanahmet area. A little more simple (in our opinion), but also a very good hotel, which is worth keeping “in reserve”.
Excursions have become quite popular in Istanbul in recent years.wasteful pleasure
As, indeed, are entrance fees to literally all attractions.
So today you can take an educational 4-5 hour walk around the center in the company of a competent guide only for a fee of 40 €, or even more. In April, however, you can count on being the only participant in such a tour.
A Bosphorus cruise accompanied by an audio guide costs around 15 €. If you would like to have lunch or dinner on board during the boat trip, then prepare an additional ~20 €.

Things to do
Obviously, there is a lot to see in Istanbul in April! And let’s take it as a fact that, to begin with, you will spend some time oohing and ahhing about numerous flower beds with tulips. And even photo sessions against their background.
Equally worth checking out:
To visit the former Sultan’s Topkapi residencesit’s best to set aside a whole day. Because you will have to explore the palace alone for 3-4 hours, and you will simply be fed up with impressions.
WITH Galata Tower it is necessary to look at Istanbul from top to bottom. This is especially good to do in April. Because the chance that you will wait no more than 10-15 minutes for your turn to rise is very high.
From the outside, the remaining fragment of the Constantinople fortification is best admired at artificial lighting. Remembering all the oriental fairy tales you know.
However, no one forbids recalling Western ones – after all, geographically the Galata Tower is located in Europe.
- Where you must go in Istanbul in 3-4 days

Worth seeing Rumeli Hisar fortresswhich was once the vanguard point of defense on the Bosphorus. And equally Chora Monastery (today also a mosque) in the depths of the Fatih district – colorful frescoes have survived in its ancient Byzantine basilica.
Visit Istanbul Rahmi M. Koch Technology Museum A rare tourist plans to visit the shores of the Golden Horn Bay. But the few travelers who have visited its halls always leave enthusiastic and downright surprised comments!
Where to go
Of the possible suburban routes, we will highlight several main ones.
The first one is Princes’ Islandswhich can be reached without particularly complex body movements. Simply by boarding a boat at the Eminonu pier and 1.5 hours later disembarking at the pier of Buyukada Island.
Ecotourism enthusiasts should definitely follow this route. For on the “Red Islands” there are practically no smoking carts with internal combustion engines.
And locals and tourists travel in horse-drawn carts or bicycles!
We invite you to spend a day at thermal resort of Yalova. After all, when else can you get healthy in baths with hot mineral water, if not in the spring?
When a certain obsession settles in the mind to tidy up the body that is tired over the winter!
For those who are ready to rent a car, we can also recommend longer routes. For example, the one that leads to the inconspicuous town of Canakkale, located near the mouth of the Dardanelles Strait.
Once upon a time they stood here walls of the legendary Troy. And you can still see some of the ruins today.
You will have to travel over 500 km along the highway to see the ruins of the largest ancient city on the Asia Minor peninsula, Ephesus. And all 700 kilometers or so to get from Istanbul to Cappadocia.
The region is immensely beautiful, deserving at least a 2-3 day stop. Especially in mid-spring, when nature begins to turn green here too.
