Minsk in September 2026: weather and reviews, air temperature, how to dress? Is it worth going on vacation, prices in hotels and excursions? What to do and what to see in Minsk and Belarus in early September and closer to October, where to go and visit with children – Eurotraveler tells in detail.
September cannot be called a month of mass tourism. But you shouldn’t underestimate its importance from a travel point of view! Since the beginning of autumn is a great time for both a relaxing holiday at sea and short trips to places that promise rich and interesting leisure time.
For example, to Belarus. After all, in Minsk in September they enjoy not hot, but still warm weather. It’s not always clear, but it’s not particularly rainy either. The main thing is mostly dry.
That is, it is best suited for walking around the city. And also trips to other interesting sights of the country: to Mir and Nesvizh castles, to Grodno and Gomel, Vitebsk and Polotsk, Brest, Belovezhskaya Pushcha.
How affordable are the prices for such a vacation? Now we’ll tell you everything!
Weather in Minsk in September
It has a pronounced transitional character: it is not too bright, but calm, pacifying “Indian summer” in the yard. Autumn is just beginning to come into its own, the foliage is gradually turning yellow.
But warm days still a lot. And the boring autumn rains are not even going to appear on stage – not at this time and not in this place!
It is only worth considering that the differences between night and day temperatures are sometimes significant. And if during the day you can walk around in just a T-shirt, then at night you will need not even demi-season clothes – much warmer ones.
Almost every year at the beginning of September in Minsk, although it is not hot, it is not warm like autumn – for about a week or even 10 days. The air temperature during the day reaches +18-22 °C, rarely, but sometimes up to +24-28 degrees Celsius.
At night the atmosphere can cool down to (minimal) +4-6 °C. On average, the air after sunset in the Belarusian capital at the beginning of autumn cools to +8-12 °C.
This allows those travelers who took at least demi-season clothing with them to feel comfortable even during evening exercise.

It is remarkable that over the next two thirds of September the weather pattern in Minsk does not change much. Yes, daytime temperatures can drop to +13-15 °C or even +11-12 °C (at times +6-8 °C). But at night, street thermometers still show confidently positive values - not lower than +3-5 °C.
It rains very moderately – no more than 3-4 times a month. And the volume of precipitation will not force you to interrupt even a walking excursion – if you take an umbrella or a light raincoat with you.
There are not many sunny days – cloudy weather prevails. On September 1, the sun rises over Minsk at a quarter to 7 am and sets at 20.00. So the duration of daylight hours reaches almost 14 hours. By October, the day decreases by a massive 2 hours.
What to take with you
Almost everything is the same as what you would take if you were planning to go somewhere in Russia in September. As you probably know, this also applies to documents – citizens of the Russian Federation can enter Belarus with an internal passport. And stay in the country without registration for up to 90 days!
Is it worth overloading your luggage with things, including warm ones? In our opinion, if only in the opposite direction – in September it is much more correct to bring something winter from Minsk rather than drag it there.
Since in 2026 a number of stores of popular global clothing brands are still operating in Belarus, now, alas, no longer represented in Russia. So you can buy a lot of interesting things here.
Again, high-quality Belarusian knitwear has been popular since Soviet times. Apparently that’s why reviews describing shopping in the capital of Belarus are filled with enthusiastic comments…
There is also free Wi-Fi in Minsk. And to connect to it, you don’t have to buy a local SIM card, you just need to register on the network.
Many Russian citizens know that in Belarus today you can also obtain a bank card from the international payment systems Visa and Mastercard. The same one that you can use when paying online for purchases abroad, as well as during other trips abroad!
Opening a Belarusian “plastic” is not difficult – you only need an internal Russian passport. But the commission for opening and servicing card accounts of Russians in Belarusian banks today is no longer as small as it was a year ago. In particular, they will ask for 9-10 thousand Russian rubles just for issuing the card.

Important!
Before going to a bank for the purposes outlined above, it is worth checking whether it is under sanctions. If yes, then you will not be able to pay with its cards in many countries of the world.
By the way, in Belarus in general and in Minsk as well, you can pay for purchases and even withdraw cash in local currency from cards of the Russian payment system “Mir”.
Prices 2026
You can get from Moscow to Minsk by Lastochka in about 7 hours, taking into account the time for border control. Tickets for this fast train are moderately expensive; for seats, an adult will have to pay from 3 thousand rubles one way.
Air flights, each of which (Moscow-Minsk and back) will last about 1.5 hours, will cost more. In September, an adult passenger will have to pay for tickets – luggage weighing up to 23 kg is included – from 12 thousand in Russian currency.
Although, of course, someone will be lucky enough to find it cheaper – on sale!
The increased demand for holidays in Belarus from Russians, alas, has led to an increase in prices in hotels. So in September you will be able to rent a double room in Minsk for at least 5 thousand rubles per night. If, of course, you are at least minimally demanding in terms of comfort…
Prices for daily rental of apartments, that is, apartments, so far more pleasant. So for ~4-5 thousand rubles per day you can rent a small but well-kept studio in the center of Minsk. For 6-8 thousand rubles you will have at your disposal a spacious apartment next to Independence Avenue.
Sightseeing tours around Minsk cannot be called overly expensive – for 1,500 – 1,800 Russian rubles per person they will take you around the city, they will show and tell you everything. From 4 to 5 thousand Russian rubles will be paid by a tourist who wishes to take part in a 10-11 hour trip to the two most beautiful castles in Belarus: Mir and Nesvizh.
Author’s 3-4-day tours around Belarus will cost 20-25 thousand rubles or more per person. Moreover, sometimes this amount includes not only excursion support, accommodation and meals, but also transportation costs (excursion bus) for moving from (to) Russia.
Things to do
It is quite natural that there is a lot to see in Minsk throughout September. Although we recommend spending maximum time outdoors.
Not only to see the key attractions, but also to feel the atmosphere calmness and leisurelywhich is inherent in the capital of Belarus. And the whole country as a whole.
To avoid getting bored, we advise energetic people to come here for 2-3 days, no more. Because it is during this time that you will have time to see the sights of Minsk and the surrounding area.

A must-visit place is the Upper Town, where many old houses have been preserved. It is equally rare for a tourist to miss the opportunity to visit the historical Trinity Suburb, a kind of architectural monument to bygone times on the other side of the Svisloch.
It is worth keeping in mind that on the second Saturday of September the city’s birthday is traditionally celebrated in Minsk (September 12 in 2026). And the program of events for this occasion is not that small. In 2025, for example, we planned and held a lot of concerts and performances – npr.by/den-goroda-minska-2025-polnaya-programma-prazdnichnyh-meropriyatij/.
What else
We recommend adding a visit to Loshitsky Park and the recently reconstructed estate there to your list of activities. Reviews admire the quality of the interior decoration, as well as the excursions that take place around the complex.
Those wishing to see works of art should visit the National Art Museum of Belarus. Well, for those who are more interested in history, in September you can go to the Historical.
Tourists with children will certainly want to visit a well-maintained Minsk Zoo. Where (in very good conditions) a lot of different animals are kept. The Belarusian capital also has a dolphinarium, as well as trampoline parks and go-kart tracks.
We already briefly mentioned the need to visit with a guide the castles in Mir and Nesvizh, which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and are located 100-120 km from Minsk at the beginning of our material. You will almost certainly visit there, because the beginning of autumn is probably the best time for such a visit.
Where to go
If you come to Minsk not at a fast pace, but for the weekend, then in September it is worth visiting other cities in Belarus. Not only to see, but also have fun!
In Lida, for example, at the beginning of the month they traditionally hold Lidbeer, a music and beer festival dedicated to City Day (in 2026 – September 13). And in just a week, a similar holiday with folk festivals and concerts will take place in Grodno. Which city already deserves at least a 3-4 hour introductory walk.
Car travelers may find it completely tireless to visit Brest and Belovezhskaya Pushcha (~350 km along the highway), which in September still flaunts its bright green “outfit”.
Along the way, you can stop by to see a real neo-Gothic castle, the Puslovsky Palace in Kossovo. Just keep in mind that it is open only until 17.30, and the work schedule also includes a half-hour break for lunch.
