Cappadocia in September and October: weather and reviews, air temperature, how to dress? Is it worth going on vacation and when is the best time, prices 2026 in hotels, excursions and hot air balloon flights. What to do in Cappadocia in autumn and what to see, how to get there from Istanbul or Antalya yourself – tells Eurotraveler.
Turkish Cappadocia today has ceased to be exclusively a summer tourist destination. If relatively recently the overwhelming majority of those wishing to intend and visit the region solely casually, taking a short break from a beach holiday in Side, Kemer or Bodrum, today a trip to the “Land of Beautiful Horses” have become an end in itself.
The trend has received particular development during the pandemic. When, squeezed by quarantine cordons, tourists lost their former freedom to move around the world and poured into open Turkey.
Moreover, inspired by the openness of this Asian country, foreign travelers went (that is, drove, of course) much further than the usual beaches on the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas.
We discovered how unusual, original, great and the primitive beauty of Cappadocia. Clearly deserving of much more than the couple of days offered by most travel agencies.
Along the way, it was taken into account that an independent trip to Turkey by car is not a “super task”. And during such a trip you get a lot more impressions.
Less money will be spent on vacation – per family. Which, you see, is important in a period when incomes, if not declining, are not particularly growing.
The almost year-round nature of the destination also played a role – hot air balloons in Cappadocia fly both in autumn and winter. It’s ridiculous to even talk about free access to the valleys.
However, for a trip around the region it is better to choose softer time. Warm but not too hot.
Worth knowing
- From a weather point of view, September in Cappadocia looks almost optimal
- And in October – even at the end of the month – you can walk through the valleys in shirts and light jackets. Don’t worry about overheating and take a very modest supply of water with you on hikes.
- At the same time, you will be able to see as much as you could not even imagine – in other months and seasons

Wander around all day, enjoying the clear day and incredible scenery. All while being light and without the nagging thought of having to be back in time for an all-inclusive meal… isn’t this what an ideal vacation looks like?
Are you in doubt? Because swimming and lying on the beach is somehow more pleasant?
Then you should go to Bodrum in September! And equally – to Marmaris, Oludeniz, Kemer and Antalya.
Well, we continue to stick to our line!
Weather in Cappadocia in September
Not fundamentally different from its summer version – except for the peak temperatures lower. No, we don’t argue, it can even be +28-30 °C. But in most cases, street thermometers are still shy to show above +24-26 °C.
On some days the air temperature in Cappadocia in September does not rise above +20 °C. This is during the day – at night in this case you should expect about +14-16 degrees Celsius, not higher!
The chance of precipitation is low. But, unlike August, it still exists – winter is just around the corner, it’s time to know.
The statistical norm is 1-2 stormy days per month. All the rest – mostly sunny.
The winds in September Cappadocia blow even weaker than in summer. Therefore, the likelihood of a hot air balloon flight being canceled due to bad weather is low.
How much does this kind of entertainment cost? It is difficult to say in advance; prices fluctuate greatly depending on demand. But in general, you can count on getting what you want for about €150-200 per person: it can be either more or (with a discount) less.
By the way, don’t forget about the need dress warmly. After all, aeronautics usually begins early in the morning, before dark!
When the atmosphere in individual lowlands stores a maximum of +8-10 degrees Celsius. It is always much colder at altitude than on the ground.
On September 1, the sun will rise over Cappadocia at 6.12 and drop below the horizon at 19.15. By the end of the month, the star gets a little tired: it “dozes” until 6.38 am and goes to bed ~ at 18.40.

Cappadocia in October
Continues to put pressure on the psyche of tourists, already ready for winter and a lot of cloudy days, abundance of light and warmth. Sometimes it’s hard to change your mind – after all, you’re flying out of the realm of snow, cold, or at least bad weather.
And you arrive in incredibly warm Cappadocia in October, over which the sky is serenely blue. And the trees are just beginning to change into their golden attire!
The air temperature in Cappadocia in early October “lives” in the range of +18-24 °C, birds sing, people in sweaters are looked at as if they were crazy. That is, during the day they watch, and in the evenings, local residents also wear jackets and sweaters. Since air temperatures in the region of +10-14 °C hint at the need for this quite clearly.
Rains rare and not large-scale – in the reviews, again, there is literally not a word about them. So you shouldn’t expect any catch from this side either.
This is also why the impressions of travelers who vacationed in Cappadocia at the beginning of October (and in the middle of it too) are invariably blissful. The reviews contain some even excessive amounts of admiration for the weather, the abundance of sunshine and warmth, and panoramic views.
Yes, sometimes tourists complain of fatigue due to an overly busy program, participation in all these “Red” and “Green” tours. But at the same time, they regret that they cannot stay longer; they admit that 3 or even 4 days for getting to know each other is not enough. There are literally no complaints about the climate itself!
In early October, sunrise in Cappadocia will be at 6.40 and sunset at approximately 18.30. At the end of the month, dawn will occur at the beginning of eight, and sunset will take place before dinner – at 17.45.
And here’s what’s next
at the beginning of November the weather in Cappadocia deteriorates noticeably. It’s getting colder (though not always so cold), and the sky is becoming gloomier more often.
The winds, however, being smart people, look at this trend condescendingly. And they do not in any way aggravate the situation, allowing tourists to do what they love without interference.
Well, you probably guessed what it is: rode a balloon over local landscapes – completed the minimum program
Here we looked at where it is warmest in October in Turkey.
How to dress
We rejoice in the warm weather, but do not forget about the greatly reduced duration of daylight compared to summer. And after sunset in Cappadocia… warm clothes won’t hurt.
If, of course, you have the strength and desire to get out of the hotel room after sunset. Moreover, in general, there is nothing to see in Goreme other than the Open Air Museum.
Don’t forget about comfortable shoes – walking on rocky paths and exploring caves urgently require non-slip soles and a heel-resistant heel. In principle, sneakers will be enough – heavy rains are not typical for this time.
Prices 2026
It is worth booking a hotel room in Goreme 2-3 months before arrival. For all the most “delicious” – read, inexpensive – can be disassembled. If you’re late, you’ll overpay a couple of hundred euros for 3-4 nights, that’s the minimum.
Among the (relatively) inexpensive and high-quality hotels in the very center of Goreme, we highlight Cappadocia Stone Palace. With clean and well-kept rooms and a rooftop terrace with a great view of the balloons floating overhead.
A spacious room for two (25 m2) at the beginning of September without any discounts will cost 90 € per night – and a buffet on breakfast is included in this price.
Not significantly more expensive (from €100 per night) Balloon Cave Hotel. Where the bonus is not only “cave” rooms, but also a swimming pool with a beautiful view. A local pool, sometimes even hot in autumn, is a very nice bonus!
The cost of renting a car in Kayseri is from €35 per day, subject to booking a month or more in advance. Minibus transfer from the airport costs from €12-15 per person.

Things to do
“Must-do” events in Cappadocia we counted four. These are: a flight in a balloon, a visit to the Open Air Museum in Goreme, a selfie against the backdrop of “fairy fireplaces” in the Valley of Love and exploring the labyrinths of one of the underground cities.

Of course, literally anyone will want to make their own adjustments to such an unsaturated program. For example, paying €70-75 for the “Red”, “Blue” or “Green” routes and completely eliminating the organizational part.
Some people are not themselves before riding cross-country on ATVs. And others will want to take part in a horse ride or even take a camel ride. Yes, this is not Egypt, but “ships of the desert” take tourists through the Cappadocian landscapes!
An independent walk through the famous valleys around Goreme also seems like a natural step. When planning a route, the only thing you need to do is take into account sunrise and sunset times.
And don’t forget about your lunch break! After all, not trying the original dishes of Turkish Cappadocia (for example, lamb testi kebab) is almost a crime.
You should definitely pay a visit to Uchisar and climb to the top of the castle there. By the way, it’s easier to get there from Goreme by dolmus. But it’s quite possible to walk back, downhill.
How to get there
Organizing a trip to Cappadocia on your own will require some effort. Because (when flying from Russia) you will have to develop route with transfers.
We must also not forget that international flights in Istanbul (for example), today are accepted by its New Airport, which is located in Europe. And for flights in Turkey, mainly the old one, Sabiha Gokcen, is used – it is already stationed in Asia.
However, if you are at least a little experienced traveler, everything should work out, as it should. Why, you can easily include sightseeing in Istanbul in your travel program. From which it will not be too difficult to get to Goreme later.
And getting from Alanya and Antalya to Cappadocia by bus on your own is not a particularly tedious task. That is unless you decide you won’t spend €60 (or so, hot air balloon ride not included) on an organized 2-day excursion!
