The Cannes Festival is professional, the entrance to all official events – through the badges for which accreditation is needed. There are several categories of accreditation with different access – for the press, guests of the festival, participants in the film market and cinema lovers. If you are in no way connected with the press and the film industry, then the only way to get to the festival is to get the accreditation of the movieman.
Each year, the Directorate allocates from 4 to 6 thousand tickets for people far from film production. Most cinema lovers with this type of accreditation are the French and residents of Western Europe, perhaps because residents of other countries simply do not know how to apply for accreditation. Although the process is quite simple – you need to be a member of the film club or have an annual subscription in the cinema, register on the site and send documents on time.
To submit an application, it should be within one month (in 2018 it was the period from March 1 to April 1) to register on the festival’s website (and send the following documents: a motivational letter in English or French, a copy of the passport, a copy of the film club/ annual subscription ticket + link to the cinema site or the cinema network. To increase the chances of success, it is worth sending the application as soon as possible.
How to attend shows and interesting events without accreditation?

– The most radical way to get to closed shows is to come a couple of hours before the start with the sign “I will buy an invitation ticket”. Oddly enough, this method works very often. The main drawback is that you will have to wait for these couple of hours under the scorching sun.
– There is another, simpler, more convenient and completely free way to watch a movie during the festival – to go to evening shows on the Macé beach as part of the Cinéma de La Plage program. Every day at 21:30 on a huge (24 meters in length and 6 in height) screen on the beach shows films from the gold collection of the Cannes festival. The entrance is free, but it is better to take places an hour before the show.
– Buy a film ticket from the independent directorial section “La Quinzaine des réalisateurs”, consisting of excellent short -term clipping and documentary cinema. Tickets for them are sold in a kiosk to the right of the JW Marriott Cannes hotel. Look for a window where Billets and Quinzaine are written, come in advance and you can buy a ticket for about 10 euros.
– You can watch a live broadcast of the ceremony on large screens installed on the Krugoet embankment. All screens belong to different television channels, some of them (for example, belonging to the Canal +channel),
They collect more spectators near us, but we advise you to choose the screen by the convenience of location, and not by the number of public.
-The red carpet is still the best place to see celebrities, but for this you should stock up on endless patience, water and food. The red carpet is surrounded by a crowd of fans a few hours before the arrival of the stars, so if you want to take a good place, come in advance, in comfortable shoes and do not forget to put on a hat. You can also take a place at the rear exit from the palace from the eastern side – it is from there that celebrities come out.
Practical advice

– Queues. Do you have accreditation or not – get ready to defend for more than one hour in queues. In Cannes, the weather is unpredictable – it can be +30 ° C, and it can rain. Therefore, always put on comfortable shoes, take an umbrella and hat, as well as water and food – there are few supermarkets in the center, and the prices in restaurants are unreasonably high.
– Housing. The rich and famous usually settle in Grand Hyatt Cannes Hife Martinez, Intercontinental Carlton or JW Marriott, and those who want to avoid annoying attention to their person choose the legendary Cap-Eden Roc in neighboring antibrates. In the latter, by the way, all the coolest private parties are arranged during the festival.
If you want to save, it is better to book a hotel or apartments in Cannes in a few months. Cannes are a town from 74,000 inhabitants, where 200,000 people come during the festival, so it’s difficult to find housing and it will cost 2-4 times higher than in the offseason. In addition, keeping in the suburbs or in neighboring cities are cheaper, and you can get to Cannes by train or bus.
– Information. For plans, schedule of all events and transport, go to the tourist office (Office de Tourisme, 1 Boulevard de la Croisette, 06403 Cannes),
which is open from 9 to 19 every day. To avoid queues, it is better to come up in the morning.
– Parking. Cannes are a small city that can be bypassed. During the festival, finding a parking lot in the city is difficult and expensive – an hour of parking costs about 4 euros, 8 hours more than 20, 12 – about 30 euros. If you want to save, leave the car in the suburbs of Cannes La Bocca, there are 7 free parking lots.
Booking hotels and hotels will become easier along with the OneTwotrip service, where more than 2,000,000 placement objects are presented.
