Anastasia Rubtsova has been living and has been working in Rome for almost 7 years and in this article she talks about non -tourist places in the city, the best restaurants, unknown gardens and observation sites.
Rome – a huge open -air time machine – never know what awaits you for another turn on one of the many old streets. One of the oldest cities, Rome is constantly changing and these changes can be observed with every new visit: for example, this year they updated the bus fleet, many monuments were restored, many summer pretty verandas and art claster appeared.
Where to stop
There are many historical monuments in Rome and they are dispersed throughout the city. I would advise you to choose housing based on where you most want to visit. It is worth taking a closer look at the hotels in the area of Via Dei Coronari Street, a zone near Panteon and Piazza Navona, Via Giulia, the Transtevere zone, the Monti zone and Via Veneto Street (by the way, there are almost all the most expensive Rome hotels), also the streets of Via Cicerone and Pyatztsa Barnise. As for everyone, everyone has their own preferences and tastes, so it is very difficult to advise here, but a few hotels with a very convenient location, from which in half an hour you can reach the main historical attractions:
○ C. Luxury Palace & Apartments (hostel. Cost of the night for 1 person from 1,630 rubles)
○ Hotel Cilicia (hotel 3*. The cost of night for 1 person from 4,140 rubles)
○ liliumhotel (hotel 3*. The cost of night for 1 person from 7,460 rubles)
○ Twentyone Hotel (hotel 4*. The cost of night for 1 person from 13,750 rubles)
○ Hotel Indigo (hotel 5*. The cost of night for 1 person from 24,900 rubles)
Where to eat
● Must Visit For those who want unforgettable impressions:
– Casa Coppelle on Piazza delle Coppelle, 49. There is a very pleasant interior here, on the creation of Jacques Garcia, one of the best French decorators, and amazingly tasty dishes of high kitchen.
Middle check: 40 euros
– Open year ago, a bar on the La Rinascente terrace on Via del Tritone street, from where a panoramic view of the city opens.
Middle check: 30 euros
– The best place for aperitif is a garden with a five -star Hotel de Russie hotel. Drinks here are served in a large courtyard, the walls of which are seen with herbs.
Middle check: 40 euros
● Breakfast in Rome It implies pastries and coffee, so finding places where they offer a dense breakfast is not an easy task. But still there is Coromandel (Via Di Monte GioDano, 60) – there are excellent pancakes and omelettes, as well as the French place Le Carrè Français at Via Vittoria Colonna, 30) – here are submitted by sandwichs and omens, croissants, baguettes and much more, they also have an excellent confectionery and a small store of goods from France.
Middle check for breakfast: 10-12 euros
● For lunch and dinner (which, by the way, at 13:00 and at 20:30) I will advise several places-they serve a magnificent paste in La Carbonara (Piazza Campo de ‘Fiori, 23), pizza-in Montecarlo (Vicolo Savelli, 13), where office clerks go, so everything is simple, delicious and homeless. Pizza pieces for removal – in Grano (Via Degli Equi, 39) and Frutta E Farina (Via Della Crow, 49 A). Since Rome is not a port city and fish restaurants, I will advise fish and seafood in Assunta Madre (Via Giulia, 14) or Fish Market (Vicolo Della Luce, 2). I advise you to go to Temakhino fans (the Romans themselves go there). Behind the burgers, you can go to the T-Bone Station (ask the Black Angus burger-the highest quality of meat).
Average check for lunch and dinner: 20-40 euros
● Behind the aperitiv (in the region of 18: 00-19: 00) with slices and a glass of wine, you can go to Meccanismo, Tagliere Toscano, La Prosciutteria, or just sit with a glass of Aperol and chips in the Locarno Hotel or Bukowski’s Bar, where the atmosphere is recreated Homemade comfort: there are books on the shelves that you can take and read while you are waiting for drinks, photos are hung on the walls, and the carpet is spread out on the floor.
Average check for aperitif: 15-25 euros
● Barnum Cafe A great place to sit and work, comfortably sitting with a laptop and a cup of cappuccino (great option For remote workersbecause there is Wi-Fi).
Middle check: 11-20 euros
● Tasty lovers ice cream I will advise the classic Giolitti (you need to be patient, because there is always a large line there), you can also go to Gelateria del Teatro on the Coronari street – be sure to try the taste of Salvia E Lamponi (sage and raspberries), it is refreshing and interesting.
The average cost in tourist places: from 2 euros per ball of ice cream

Interesting excursions from local residents in Rome
What to see (non -tourist routes, unusual places)

● Ara pacis or altar of the world – a glass fence guarding from destruction and dust a snow -white arch in honor of the triumphal return of Emperor Augustus from a military campaign, erected in the 13th century BC. Exhibitions are often held here (for example, there was recently a photo exhibition from the Magnum Photos agency and others).
● Chiostro Bramante and Complesso Vittoriano -Here, too, artists are often arranged here, check the schedule on official sites (also in Chiostro Bramante inside, in the City Court, there is a wonderful cafe where you can go free without buying a ticket).
● Fontana Dell’Acqua Paola – While everyone is photographed at the beat of the clogged Trevi fountain, you can cheat a little, sit on a taxi (rising for a very long time) and go to an equally beautiful fountain near the trasteuver. The bonus will be a picturesque panorama of the city.
● Fontana delle tartarughe (Piazza Mattei) – this small area is located in the center of the Jewish quarter, where usually tourists simply do not reach, but in vain – it is incredibly beautiful there. The fountain of turtles, built in 1588 to provide local residents with drinking water, deserves special attention.
● ORTO BOTANICO – A stunning botanical garden, a real oasis in the center of Rome with succulents, palm trees, a bamboo garden and a Japanese corner.
● from churches (and there are more than 900 in Rome), I will advise three unusual: Chiesa st luigi in francesithen the only Gothic Church Chiesa del Sacro Cuore del Suffragio and one of the best creations Francesco Bormini is the Church Chiesa di st’ivo alla sapienzaopen only early in the morning on Sundays.
● In Rome, next to the Piramide metro, there is an “analogue” of the famous French Pere-Lashez cemetery: Roman Non -Catholic cemeterywhere the grave of the famous English poet John Kitsa is located (on Piazza di Spagna, by the way, is his museum-apartment).
● EUR quarter: Here you can admire modern Rome – on the “square Coliseum” – Palazzo Della Civilta Italina, where you can visit the Fendi exhibition (in the same place, by the way, there is their main office). It’s better to get by taxi, but you will definitely not find tourists here.
What to do

● In good weather Of course, I will advise you to walk a lot – do not be afraid to turn off the tourist trails and look into the courtyards (sometimes they are open) or ride on excursions On cute scooters Vespa or vintage Fiat 500 (Write on Instagram, for example, on Dearomatouurs or Scooteromatours).
● When it rainsyou can visit my top 5 favorite museums in Rome: Museum of Modern Art Museo Macro, Museo Maxxi-the National Museum of Arts of the XXI century, the project of which was developed by the ingenious Ziha Hadid, Galleria Nazionale D’Arte Moderna-the National Gallery of Modern Art with the impressive collection XIX -XX centuries and the Museum of Cultural Heritage in Rome – Museo del Quirinale.
● With children Look at the museum created specifically for children (Explora Il Museo Dei Bambini on Via Flaminia 80/86). There are developing courses, lectures, games, and as a bonus to parents – a year ago the first real Neapolitan pizzeria in Rome opened there. And also in the city very soon a huge oceanarium will open, where you can see about 5 thousand inhabitants of the seas and oceans.
● The most sophisticated travelers tired of Rome can advise you to go on research The surroundings around the city – For example, Tivoli has a wonderful park similar to Peterhof. You can also go by car at sea in order to buy plenty and sunbathe is perfect for the beaches in the towns of Santa Marinella, San Felice Circeo and Sabaudia, or you can go for a walk along the embankment of the volcanic lake Bracciano, or go to the Lago Castel Gandolfo – a city where the summer residence is located Pope.
