Sri Lanka is a great place for a variety of rest. Here you can dissect along the waves into a grief and catch the wind on the cabin; swim with a mask among coral reefs, and plunge to the depths with scuba gear to see the beauty of the underwater world; enjoy fresh seafood and sweet tropical fruits; To get acquainted with local history and culture, visit the ancient monuments of architecture, temples, cities and roam the endless green hills, among the Ceylon tea plantations, and, of course, to sunbathe and relax on endless beaches. The sand on many of them is small, pleasant to the touch, coconut palms hang over the sea, and the water is clean and transparent.
The best beaches are located mainly on the southwestern coast and a little on the eastern. Nevertheless, only large beaches on the island can be counted more than fifteen, not to mention wild and unpopular sandy areas. Among the whole variety of beaches, 6 main, most attractive for tourists can be distinguished.
Bentota
One of Sri Lanka’s most popular beaches and many, unreasonably, consider it the best on the whole island for a relaxing vacation. Partly the popularity of Bertota can be explained by the fact that of all large beaches, it is closest to the international airport (100 kilometers). The beach is quite wide, long and, despite popularity, not too crowded.
The resort is often chosen by newlyweds for relaxed relaxation and holding a honeymoon. There is a good choice of first -class hotels, restaurants, massage salons, in general, the tourist infrastructure is perfectly developed.
Hikkaduva
The Hikkaduva beach is located 30 kilometers south of the benthota, but the atmosphere on it is completely different – this is a youth resort with all the corresponding attributes: many bars, beach parties, a fairly large choice of budget housing.
The resort gained popularity among young people thanks to large waves – this is one of the best places for surfing on the island. Hikkaduva stretched 7 kilometers and actually consists of two beaches. The first Hikkaduva of the same name is located in the lagoon (therefore there are almost no waves near it),
Calm, wide enough and not very long. The second is Narigama, more long, but narrow, with a decent depth near the shore and large waves, which makes it unprofitable for bathing, but it is great for surfing.
In the sea by the shore you can see sea turtles and a small coral reef. Hikkaduva will always do something for vacationers in the vicinity of Hikkaduva: in the morning you can surf, sunbathe, swim and sninking, break off in the bars and parties in the evening and periodically travel somewhere in neighboring resorts or go on excursions.
Unavatuna
A small but very popular beach among tourists. In the season, it can be quite crowded here. Cozy, with well -developed infrastructure, it is located in a small lagoon protected from the open ocean with a coral reef, about which the waves break. Therefore, near the shore, the sea is most often clean and calm, due to which Unavatuna is very popular among families with children.
Near the shore, the sea is quite small, so it warms up well during the day, the water temperature does not drop below 27 degrees throughout the year.
Next to the beach is a good selection of small hotels and guesthouse, but there are no large and network hotels that would work with large travel agencies, so Unavatuna is popular among independent travelers. In the evening, the beach turns into a large open -air restaurant – nearby restaurants exhibit tables in the sand, light torches around them and offer to dinner with fresh seafood.
When choosing for the rest of the unavatuns, be prepared for the fact that there are a lot of fragments of corals and stones in the water, so entering the water is not very pleasant. For a comfortable vacation, take with you slippers. Local (especially on weekends) love to come here,
who show increased attention to white tourists.
Mirissa
This is another beautiful beach that is very popular among tourists. The beach in Mirissa is very picturesque with pretty palm trees on the shore and pleasant small sand without large stones. Water in the sea is clean and transparent without algae and garbage. The sea near the shore is very small.
The infrastructure is not very well developed, but if you place an order in one of the beach restaurants, you can use their sun loungers and umbrellas without additional fees.
Tangalla
Tangalla beach is long, wide, incredibly picturesque and almost deserted. This is the most remote resort zone from the capital on the south coast, so that either few bacpekers-travelers or tourists are eager for solitude come here. In the western part of the beach, where the village of Tanagalla is located, there are inexpensive gestaciuses and restaurants, and then after the village you can go on the beach many kilometers, occasionally meeting hotels of a fairly good level on the way.
The water here is transparent, the beach is clean, you can bring it off the shore, but there are almost always large waves in the sea, so only those who swim well are decided far from the shore.
Trinkomali
There are not very many beaches on the north-eastern coast, they are even more wild and deserted than in the southwest. Extremely connoisseurs of nature and those who are ready to spend 9 hours on the train, or lay out a tidy amount come here to get a taxi with comfort. Nevertheless, those who nevertheless get to the beaches of the trinkomalis call these places the most beautiful part of the island.
Rest in the city of Trinkomali is calm, there is practically no entertainment, the infrastructure was significantly affected by the tsunami in 2004 and is restored very slowly. Many hotels since then are empty and abandoned. Not far from the shore is a small, uninhabited island of Pidzheon with snow -white coral sand and clean water. The island is surrounded by a large coral reef that attracts lovers of snorkeling and diving – here under water you can see bright tropical fish, sea turtles and, they say, even reef sharks.
You can book hotels online on the site or in the OneTwotrip application.
