Hainan in July 2026 – is it worth going on vacation? Weather in Sanya and Dadonghai, reviews, water and air temperature, humidity, probability of typhoons, what to take with you, prices for tours and hotels. What to do and what to see in Hainan in the summer, what you need to know – says Eurotraveler.

“Is there life on Mars, is there life on Mars – this is unknown to science” – this phrase from the popular Soviet film “Carnival Night” at one time became a catchphrase. Perhaps because it reflected the desire of all humanity to find out what is so interesting on the planet closest to Earth.

Until recently, the Chinese island of Hainan seemed almost equally unknown to most. It seems to be all tropical, but it’s unclear what it is like in a tourist sense.

Once upon a time, but not now – today people are ready to go to Hainan even in July. That is, in the very middle of summer!

Which period seems to anyone even vaguely familiar with the tropics not a very suitable time for relaxation. In any case, if the plan is relaxation, which is not associated with receiving heavy doses of adrenaline and confronting the elements)

However, experimentally it turned out that the tropics are not the same everywhere. And those of them that are located in the waters of the South China Sea seem to be luckier than others. With the weather – for sure!

And today we will talk about one of such places. Well, let’s start – traditionally, with consideration of the most pressing issues!

Briefly

  1. Is it possible to go to Hainan in summer? It is widely believed that it is even necessary, despite the promise of “tropical heat” and high humidity. And there is also a non-zero probability of stormy weather (on some days). However, all this comes with one “but” – if you soberly assess your health and firmly know that you can withstand air temperatures above +30 °C and constant humidity above 80%
  2. Are there many tourists in Hainan during the summer months? You will be surprised, but quite a lot! Of course, not as much as in mid-spring, at the height of the high season, but it’s also impossible to say that in June-August the tropical island “dies out” and prices for everything collapse
  3. Which month is the rainiest in Hainan? Nobody knows for sure, it all depends on the specific year. But they usually argue for the “honorary” title in July and October. However, mid-autumn is good because the risk of typhoons at this time is noticeably reduced. And sometimes they are in these parts so strongwhich can rip not only the hat off your head…

Weather in Hainan in July

We won’t lie about the fact that it is actually exceptionally good and just perfect for a beach holiday. Because the numbers, even on “paper,” inspire certain doubts: what is it, regular daytime air temperatures of about +35 °C (sometimes it can be lower, but it’s difficult to feel with this skin – the sensations are usually from “very hot” to “tolerable”) and humidity that instantly immerses you in perspiration?

However, it turns out that even in such weather it is possible adapt. Especially if you know that you are saving a lot. And if you don’t openly adore the heat, then in any case you prefer it to the pronounced coolness.

In general, when going on vacation to Hainan in July, you should be prepared for daytime air temperatures in the range of +32-37 degrees Celsius. But don’t be surprised if on some days meteorologists predict +38-40 °C.

In other years, temperatures of about +28-30 °C can remain for quite a long period. But this is unlikely to please the holidaymaker – usually such a drop is associated with the arrival of some stormy tropical typhoon to the coast of the island – russian.news.cn/20250719/44b584263a4d458bbbe9e8dc03304471/c.html. Combined with hurricane gusts of wind and heavy rains.

This happens quite regularly, that is, from year to year. And if you come across a review on the Internet about a July holiday in Sanya or Dadonghai (Yalun Bay – a special chic) like this, then keep in mind that it depicts, if not quite rare, then still very lucky coincidence circumstances.

Nights in Hainan in July are generally easier – air temperatures drop to +25-28 °C.

Which is hardly much of a comfort. Since by 8-9 am the sun warms up the atmosphere so much that you simply don’t want to move outside shaded spaces.

The sun rises over Sanya on July 1 at 6.10, and a month later – only 10 minutes later. The star sets below the horizon around 19.20.

Which together gives the daylight hours a pleasant duration – about 13 hours

Which an inquisitive tourist would certainly spend with great benefit. But, alas, not in this place on the world map. Because often very stuffy the weather discourages the desire to move excessively.

You can swim in Hainan in early July

Rains

Showers in Hainan during July and August are common, if not routine. The average monthly precipitation is more than 200 mm; it can be rainy (fully or partially) for up to 15 days.

Clear days are not in favor; cloudy days prevail. And the feeling of stuffiness in such moments intensifies especially – the gray sky seems to put pressure not only on the psyche, but also on the body as a whole.

Weather forecast for Hainan for the coming days.

Water temperature

From this side you have absolutely nothing to fear – in July the sea temperature in Hainan is at least +28 °C. And it can only change in one direction – increase.

You probably won’t be able to swim every day. Because, as mentioned above, summer in the South China Sea is the time of cyclones and typhoons.

However, you need to constantly use sunscreens and lotions – and on a cloudy day, a northerner can burn in the tropics in 10-15 minutes. You should also take with you on vacation a variety of light clothing that covers your body as much as possible.

Plus – a traveling first aid kit. For some reason, everyone forgets about this simply obligatory accessory for any trip to tropical countries, hoping if something happens to find everything they need at the pharmacy. But we assure you that it is much easier to put together all the “first aid” supplies for sunburn and poisoning, antipyretic medications and even antiseptics in advance – you will have less to run around in case of force majeure.

Prudent tourists, especially those traveling with children, will certainly register before the trip and health insurance. Moreover, it doesn’t cost too much today!

What other things that would be useful on vacation in China would be nice to take with you on your trip? We wrote about this in quite detailed material at one time.

Prices 2026

package tours from Russia, in particular from Moscow, look more than attractive. So a couple of travelers who decide to relax on the main resort island of China in early July (and later too) will pay from 130 thousand rubles (from ~ €1,300) for “making their dreams come true.”

Flights, by the way, will still not be direct, but with a transit connection at some northern airport in China. Which, of course, involves a trip lasting 13-15 hours in one direction only and extreme fatigue.

Those wishing to travel on direct flights (Moscow-Haikou, about 10 hours in the air) will have to pay about 190-200 thousand rubles (~ €1,900 – 2,000) for a tour at least for two.

Independent travelers in the case of Hainan they are unlikely to be able to save. It all depends on where exactly you set off from, but in general, tours so far look like a cheaper solution to the issue of vacationing on the shores of the Chinese island.

Another thing is that independently organizing a vacation and choosing a good hotel can seriously improve its quality. At a minimum, because Hainan has enough “hospitality facilities” that will not satisfy even a modest vacationer.

We, for example, vote for the (really good) Holiday Inn & Suites Sanya Yalong Bay. A week’s stay in early July will cost ~€400 for two – with breakfast €450. Transfers from the airport are included in the price, the pool is excellent, the cleaning is high quality, the food is very decent.

To the sea – about 7 minutes at a very leisurely pace. For others, you are unlikely to walk in this place in the middle of summer)

For less than €200 a week, you can rent a spacious suite at Sanya Yalong Bay Jinglai Resort. A good, albeit budget hotel with its own decent-sized pool, but at a certain distance from the coast.

Yalong Bay Beach can be reached in approximately 5 minutes by taxi. Renting a car in Hainan cannot yet be considered an affordable pleasure for everyone – from $40 per day.

Flights and excursions

As for excursions, to participate in them in Hainan in the summer you must have truly good health. At least in those that involve walking. And, even more so, climbs to more or less heights.

Summer in Hainan is hot, but the beaches are not empty

Things to do

You will almost certainly spend the lion’s share of your time relaxing on the beach. And so does relaxing in a hotel room. Which, however, sounds and looks good – especially considering what “challenges” a person has to face in the modern world.

Therefore, initially it is better to tune in to a measured and calm mode. Try to forget that you are in such an exotic location and concentrate on a long stay on the shore, swimming, quality long sleep and delicious food.

By the way, about her! Traditional Chinese dishes are definitely a must try on the island. Especially those made from seafood.

Also, pay special attention to saturating your body with vitamins (but don’t overdo it!). Because in Hainan you can try fruits that in “ordinary life” you either won’t find or wouldn’t buy because of their extreme cost.

Because – enjoy mangosteens and papaya, guava and lychee, jackfruit and guava, coconuts and carambola. Pay special attention to the juiciest local mangoes and pineapples!

An entertainment that is almost guaranteed to please the tourist will be getting acquainted with the product range and prices in some local shopping center. Most tourists, without further ado, go to the so-called “Pineapple” – Dadonghai International Shopping Center.

If you have the strength and desire, take one or two excursions in Hainan. For example, take a walk through the “Deer Turned its Head” park, from which you can enjoy excellent panoramic views. Well, or get to the local “Monkey Island” and try to communicate without loss with the nosy inhabitants there.

A visit to the Yanoda tropical park in the July heat does not seem to us to be an event that can bring pleasure. And even if you want to go to the Buddhist center of Nanshan this month, it’s more “in theory” – a rare tourist will take the risk of realizing such an intention in practice.
