Egypt in September 2026 – Is it worth going on vacation? Weather and reviews, water and air temperature, how to dress, whether sharks attack, prices for tours, air tickets, hotels and excursions. Eurotraveler found out what to do in Egypt at the beginning of September and closer to October, what to see and where to visit.

Some years ago, Egypt was in the top foreign beach preferences of both Russians and many Europeans. And I felt very comfortable there! So much so that in some months he was able not only to compete, but even to get ahead of Turkey.

In the post-pandemic era, the African country can only dream about this. For a number of reasons: starting from security reasons and ending with still much inferior quality to Turkish service and food in hotels.

However, recently demand has picked up. And today, as in the old days, many people go on vacation to Egypt in September and October.

  • When the summer heat gradually subsides, and prices are still at very attractive levels!
  • The number of vacationers on the beaches is not yet so large that it is annoying

What do you need to know about other specific realities: September weather in Egypt, the general situation in the country, statistics on shark attacks in the Red Sea, documents and things needed for the trip? We found out everything and now we’ll tell you!

Weather in Egypt in September

Does not leave tourists much freedom of action. For you can exist without the risk of being baked either at night or in short periods in the morning and evening.

In theory, there is always the option of a well-cooled hotel room. But it is not so interesting – you can blow yourself away with the cool jets while lying on your home sofa.

To summarize, we can safely say that most regions of Egypt in September (Alexandria and Mersa Matrouh, and the Mediterranean coast in general are exceptions) simply do not suspect that calendar autumn has arrived. That is, they seem to know, but according to the southern habit, they react to this event extremely lazily.

Considering that this is far from a reason to get together and stop warming the atmosphere to mind-blowing levels)

Therefore, the air temperature moves above the range of +32-35 °C even before noon. And closer to lunch, street thermometers already show about +40 °C. It’s in the shade – you can fry eggs in the sun.

Beach in Hurghada, Egypt, early September

It is naive to expect that somewhere on the Red Sea it will be easier. Because in September, Hurghada differs from Sharm el-Sheikh only in name. Everything else: scorching suna scant chance of precipitation and a not particularly refreshing wind from the sea are the same.

This is also why a significant part of the reviews about a trip to Egypt in early September or a little earlier, in August, are not oozing with optimism – irecommend.ru/vospominaniya-o-egipte-edinstvennoe-mesto.

Nights

however, it is getting cooler. The truth is not in the sense to which they are accustomed, for example, even in southern Europe. In Egypt, at the beginning of autumn, the atmosphere simply cools slightly after sunset – to +28-30 °C. And no more!

Apparently only because the sun goes to spend the night until the next morning. At the same time, even after sunset there is no feeling of particularly freshness in the air – still the same oppressive stuffiness.

The sun rises here early in early autumn, at about half past five in the morning. And he retires even before the average Russian goes to dinner, from six to half past five in the evening.

So those who plan to visit some of the most interesting places in Egypt, which, as luck would have it, are located far from the popular resort areas on the Red Sea coast, will have to get up very early. Because, for example, excursions from Hurghada to Luxor set off at first light.

Who should go

Those who have been very frozen during the year, or young flowering organisms, especially the fair sex, will probably even like this weather forecast. Especially if they didn’t forget to take a pareo with them and… what else should girls take to the sea? Besides good mood and wealthy young people?

We advise most of those over 40, as well as families with children and pensioners, to reconsider their travel dates. For example, go to Egypt at the end of September. And it’s best to move your vacation to mid-autumn – in October, a kind of velvet season already begins on the Red Sea.

There is an exception, where without it. In the Mediterranean resorts of Egypt: in the same Alexandria and Mersa Matruh, it is cooler in September.

It is quite significantly cooler – the air temperature during the day is in the range of +28-30 °C. So people who are sensitive to heat can take a deep breath here without fear of getting a lung burn.

Water temperature

in the Red Sea off the coast of Egypt in September it extremely rarely leaves the range of +27-29 degrees Celsius. This allows you to swim at any (light) time of the day. After sunset—at approximately 5-6 p.m.—local beaches are closed to prevent tourists from getting hurt on the coral.

Or, even worse, you didn’t step on a sea urchin or a stone fish hiding at the bottom in the dark. Small jellyfish are also found in the Red Sea. Mainly, however, in the spring, during the breeding season. And not in too large quantities.

Let’s not forget about the (nowadays often) large sharks that swim into the Red Sea: white and tiger. The appearance of such predators in these waters today is no longer nonsense, and happens regularly. What does it contain? considerable risk to health and life.

Documents

A list of current requirements can be found on the website of any tour operator. To save your time, we will briefly inform you that to enter the African country in 2026, Russians will need: a foreign passport and… money.

Moreover, you will have to pay part of it, the amount of $25, right at the airport for a visa. Because Egypt is only nominally included in the list of visa-free countries for Russian tourists!

The only exception is the Sharm el-Sheikh air hub, through which entry into the country is free. Unless, of course, you want to limit your own movements with the “Sinai Only” stamp, valid only for 15 days.

To participate in a bus excursion from Sharm to Cairo, for example, or to Luxor, you will have to apply for a general visa.

Reviews

In the overwhelming majority of reviews, Russian travelers consider the September weather in Egypt to be only tolerable. Not forgetting to add that next time they will try to get to the Red Sea at a less hot time. The general opinion: we had a good rest, we don’t want to repeat it.

However, when reading, you should keep in mind that the reviews relate only to popular and well-promoted places on the Red Sea. Domestic tourists still rarely vacation on the Mediterranean coast of the African country.

Perhaps because the local resorts are practically not represented in the programs of tour operators. And getting there on your own today, to put it mildly, is not very safe.

Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt

Prices 2026

Hotels and apartments, even on the coast in September Egypt, are very inexpensive. For a week’s holiday, for example, in the excellent Tony’s Privy One bed by Red Sea in Hurghada, three tourists (adults and a child) will pay less than 400 € per week. Yes, without meals – but for an apartment of 55 m2 it’s still not much?!

Charm in general is a little more expensive, but even there you can easily find, where to stay without going broke. In particular, the excellent Verginia Sharm Resort & Aqua Park hotel with its own swimming pool (and even a couple of slides) in early September asks for about 80 € per day to accommodate a family of 3 people on an all-inclusive basis.

Promoted and expensive chain hotels offer to spend a lot more. But is their all-inclusive and first-line service worth the extra 400-500-600 € per week is a big question.

Inexpensive excursions, as well as entertainment activities (cruises, diving, desert safaris). For example, a cruise from Hurghada to Giftun Island, the program of which includes both snorkeling and lunch, will cost ~30 €. A one-day excursion trip to Luxor (16 hours, with lunch, but without entrance tickets) costs from 35-40 €.

Want something better? Then you will have to pay extra plus (or) agree to reduce the duration of the trip – for example, up to 5 nights. The price for a tolerable 4-5 stars starts from 200,000 rubles.

Last minute tours, of course, will cost much less. But they need to be literally targeted.

Things to do

Parasailing in Hurghada

The standard program of events in Hurghada today is almost entirely limited to beach activities. For some, however, even this is “behind the scenes”: with banana boat rides, paragliding and kite surfing, and regular dives into the coral paradise, several days will fly by completely unnoticed.

You will have to wait a bit with foam discos outside hotels. But it’s quite possible to see interesting places in Hurghada, as well as go on an excursion, on not the hottest of days.

The most popular, of course, are those tours that go to the Great Pyramids and Cairo. Although 450 km across the desert in one direction is an exhausting undertaking.

Karnak and Luxor Temple are located a little closer to Hurghada. And their visit, combined with a crossing of the great Nile, can leave a noticeably better “aftertaste”.

You shouldn’t expect such variety in Sharm el-Sheikh. For tourists are mainly addressed only to the sights of the Sinai Peninsula. Plus, if you have the money, you can book a tour to the amazing Jordanian Petra.

Someone will want to take a boat to the island of Tirana to snorkel there. The reviews, however, advise against doing this – you will almost certainly go in a crowd, and this alone will spoil the whole impression.

And, of course, don’t forget about Ras Mohammed National Park. As well as the fact that sharks have fallen in love with the waters there in recent years…
