Georgia in September 2026: weather in Tbilisi and Kutaisi, Batumi and Mestia, reviews, air temperature, is it possible to swim, how to dress. Is it worth going on vacation and where is it better, prices in hotels and excursions. What to do and what to see in Georgia during September, where to go and visit – says Eurotraveler.

September, as few people know, in the same Georgia – great time. And not only in terms of harvest, abundance of fruits and vegetables, but also travel.

After all, the summer heat is subsiding. Equally, albeit reluctantly, prices are crawling away from summer highs: both for tours and tickets, in hotels and on excursions.

A drop in temperature does not happen immediately and not everywhere – in Tbilisi, for example, the weather in September is often “pleasant” with downright heat. But prices are already seeing a drop in demand and are beginning to fall.

Therefore, travelers have every right to expect a pleasant pastime and (moderate) savings. And if they do not limit themselves to the centers of large cities and implement a more ambitious plan, the impressions… may well overwhelm the smartphone’s memory.

Indeed, in September Georgia is truly beautiful and relaxed. As if enjoying a rest after a stuffy summer, graciously allowing everyone to get their own piece of happiness.

However, all this is poetry. Let’s look at the facts!

Weather in Georgia in September

Without discounts, it can be called perfect for an excursion trip. If you imagine the scale of the country and do not expect that you will be able to wear the same clothes equally in Batumi and Gudauri. Not to mention Mestia in Svaneti!

On the coast and in the central (but not particularly elevated) part of Georgia at the beginning of September, summer is visually still going on. And air temperatures easily reach +30 degrees Celsius.

The capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, in early September, for example, often experiences hot weather, without serious temperature changes. During the day, street thermometers show from +25 to +35 °C, at night they may not drop below +23-25 °C.

In the reviews you will find outright surprise about this… and even admiration!

In some years it may be cooler. But in general, not lower than +22-24 °C during the daytime and +16-18 °C after sunset. Do you agree that this is the ideal weather to go to all the interesting places in Tbilisi?!

Tbilisi - air temperature in Georgia in September reaches +30 degrees Celsius

Well, and go to the countryside, of course… With a tour. Or on your own – if you dared to come to Georgia with your own car.

In mid-September there is a certain cooling. More precisely, the sun simply does not have time to heat the air to temperatures above +25-27 °C during the day. However, for the first month of autumn, +25 degrees seems like a lot?!

Only closer to October, as if very tired, air temperatures drop to around (and sometimes below) the +20-degree mark.

It will rain not only moderately, frankly rarely — the average monthly precipitation for September in Tbilisi is 20-30 mm. Which, translated into human language, means no more than 1-2 rainy days.

Humidity therefore rarely rises above 60%. Which, perhaps, is not the optimal indicator, but will still allow you not to suffer from stuffiness…

Kutaisi

The second largest city of Georgia and the capital of Imereti in September retains the title of the hottest place in the country. Air temperatures in the first half of the month during the day easily reach the range of +32-36 °C. At night it can be either +22-24 or only +15-18 degrees Celsius.

In the second half of September, calendar autumn often reaches Kutaisi, dropping daytime air temperatures to +20-22 °C. However, it often happens serious warming – even up to +30 degrees Celsius.

It is worth remembering that the climate of Kutaisi is much more humid than in Tbilisi – and September is no exception. And although the number of rainy days is small (up to 4-5, the norm of precipitation is about 60-70 mm), humidity on some days can cause problems.

Batumi

In the first weeks of September, the main seaside resort of Georgia also tries not to remember the arrival of autumn. Usually thermometers here at this time show something around +25-27 °C.

Although sometimes the weather makes exceptions. As for the better – driving the street thermometers to +30 °C. And at worst – frowning and refusing to warm the atmosphere above +20-22 °C.

The rest of the month mainly passes under the sign of temperatures around +22-24 °C. Although even in mid-September spontaneous warming up to +30 and above degrees Celsius can occur in Batumi.

In Batumi in Georgia in September you can swim in the sea

The nights are colder, and much colder – up to +16-18 °C. So, if you are going to take a walk along the embankment before going to bed, do not forget to throw on a jacket or put on a sweater.

It is curious that in October the weather in Batumi becomes warmer. And the central month of autumn begins here on a very positive note – the air warms up to +23-25 °C.

It rains in coastal Georgia in early autumn much more often than in Tbilisi. But no one can say that it rains constantly – “only” 5-7 times a month.

You can definitely swim in Georgia in September – in Batumi and nearby. Because the sea warms up from +26 °C at the beginning of the month to +22 °C at the threshold of October.

Gudauri

For the sake of order, we will describe what the weather can be like in September in the mountainous regions of the country. In particular, in the vicinity of the most popular ski resort in the country, Gudauri (2,100 meters above sea level). Which, by the way, is located only 120 km north of Tbilisi.

So, with the advent of calendar autumn there, even during the day doesn’t happen often more than +25 °C. And in other years, the columns of street thermometers are completely lazy to overcome the +20-degree mark.

At night from +10-15 to even only +2-5 °C. And at the end of the month, frosts are possible on the soil (very rarely).

The number of sunny days reaches 18-20 per month. But there are also noticeably more rainy ones than in the capital – 4-6.

Svaneti

In this mountainous region in western Georgia, even at the beginning of autumn you can feel the icy breath of the approaching winter. However, usually not during the day – air temperatures in Mestia by noon can be no lower than those in Tbilisi – up to +30 and above degrees Celsius.

But at night – yes, you should expect from +15-18 to only +5-8 °C.

In the middle and end of the month, average daytime air temperatures drop to the range of +14-20 degrees. At night there might be something near zeroalthough in most cases it is still not lower than +2-4 °C.

How to dress

Based on the above, we will insist that a windbreaker and similar light clothing alone will not be enough for the trip. In any case, in some regions of Georgia they dress quite warmly in the first half of September.

Not every day (that is, usually evening), but the need for this may arise. And often – suddenly!

Therefore, we recommend taking with you sweatshirt or sweater – in case you want to explore Tbilisi late in the evening. If you plan to foray into mountainous areas (even to Gergeti, not to mention Svaneti), it is better to take something more substantial with you.

We’re not the only ones, many reviews recommend not forgetting similar items of clothing at home. So that you don’t regret it too much later!

By the way, swimsuits and swimming trunks, and other things necessary during a holiday at sea, will be a useful item in your luggage. That is, of course, if you are planning to get to the beach…

Equally, take with you other accessories: raincoats and umbrellas. For on the coast of Georgia at the beginning of autumn it is much rainier than in its central part.

Prices 2026

If we talk about hotels and guest houses, they are very inexpensive in comparison with their Russian “colleagues”. So, for example, a room in a simple but comfortable hotel a kilometer from the center of Tbilisi – Hotel Corner – will cost 30-35 € per night for two. The owner is the nicest, free cancellation is possible!

Those who decide to stay in the very heart of old Tbilisi, among all these crooked streets and romantic balconies, should focus on the price range of 45-50 € per night – Old Tbilisi Apart-Hotel. Which, against the backdrop of modern Russian realities, is also truly amazing.

Prices in Kutaisi and Batumi are at a similar level…

The cost of sightseeing walks around the Georgian capital – which is great, long – starts from 20-25 € per person. This is unless there is a discount, which in other cases can reach up to 50%!

You can go on a group excursion to Kakheti if you don’t mind spending 25-30 €. A trip to Gergeti, to the famous Assumption Church overlooking Kazbek, costs about the same. Or a one-day excursion to Mtskheta and Uplistsikhe.

How much does it cost to rent a car in Georgia? Also not too expensive – from ~30 € per day. Moreover, in many cases you don’t have to leave a deposit!

But, alas, you will have to spend money if you plan to get to Georgia by plane (from Moscow). For a couple of travelers in September 2026 will spend from 80-85 thousand rubles on round-trip tickets.

Gergeti Trinity Church is one of the main attractions of Georgia

Things to do

A significant part of Georgia’s main attractions is located in its capital, Tbilisi. To explore it, study Narikala and churches, and absorb the atmosphere of the old city, you need spend 2-3 daysno less.

  • Again, be sure to take a ride on the cable car over the Kura River
  • If you come with children, visit the amusement park on Mount Mtatsminda.

You might also want to relax in one of Tbilisi’s sulfur baths. Not for the purpose of washing, of course. Rather, “check the box” so that you can then proudly declare that you have been to the famous place (“The Motley Bath”), which at one time saw both Pushkin and Dumas.

Does this sound the same and even cooler than “I remember swimming in the Szechenyi Bath in Budapest”?!

Where to go

Close to Tbilisi, you should definitely visit Mtskheta and see the Jvari Monastery in person. Moreover, such an excursion trip will take you 3 hours, no more.

However, if you include an ancient cave city in the route Uplistsikhethen it is impossible to complete it in less than 7-8 hours.

The “city of love” Sighnaghi is located at a distance of approximately 110 km from the Georgian capital. Probably the most popular settlement among tourists in Kakheti.

A region especially famous for its winemaking – who hasn’t heard about the Alazani Valley? In September, everyone in Kakheti is naturally absorbed in harvesting a new batch of grapes from which excellent wine will subsequently be made!

The famous landmark of the country is Georgian Military Road. During the winter season and spring it is closed due to weather disasters. Therefore, be sure to take a car ride along it in early autumn. And enjoy the magnificent panoramas – in September the distance can be seen for tens of kilometers around.

Moreover, there is a more specific goal. After all, visiting Gergeti (160 km from Tbilisi) in order to see the Assumption Church is a must.

Along the way you will inevitably see the Zhinvali reservoir and the Ananuri fortress. And – if you wish – you will make a stop (for a day, two, three?) at the Gudauri resort.

Heading towards Batumi, you can visit Adjara or Imereti before relaxing on the coast. Visit Kutaisi, the second largest city in the country.

Or direct your steps to the harsh Svaneti. The edge of mountains, with their peaks catching clouds, and Svan towers.
