Karaganda, Kazakhstan

If you are asked “where-where?” You will probably answer “in Karaganda!”. This city in the central part of Kazakhstan has an important industrial, scientific and cultural significance for the whole country. Here is one of the largest stone coal deposits in Kazakhstan. For research in the field of ore mining to the city in the middle of the 20th century, the best scientists of the country were invited. Karaganda is also known for powerful metalworking enterprises. And the Karaganda Technical University is considered one of the best in Kazakhstan. In addition, in the city you can visit the Kazakh Drama Theater named after Saken Seifullin – by the way, one of the oldest in the country!
A significant mark in the history of the city was left by Karlag, a large -scale correctional camp for the repressed intelligentsia, which was in the 20th century. If a person said that he returned from Karaganda, many people around him understood exactly where he was. Today in the administrative premises of the camp, a museum is organized, the expositions of which are devoted to the difficult life of prisoners.
However, a comic modern interpretation of the phrase about Karaganda gained popularity thanks to the cinema. Probably, for the first time, she sounded in the film of Albert Mkrtchyan “Legal marriage” (1985). But she became truly folk after she said Dmitry Kharatyan in the film “On Deribasovskaya, good weather, or rains go to Brighton Beach again.” So expressively the hero answered the bandits about the whereabouts of Sheikh.
In 2011, a sculpture appeared in Karaganda, personifying this dialogue. Two men are at a loss stand near the road sign, and the symbol of the city is watching them – a marf.

The phrase gained popular fame thanks to two films. At first she sounded in Joseph Hyphizem’s film “The Rumyantsev Case”. Later “Tambov wolf you are boyar!” – said the character of the comedy “Ivan Vasilievich changes the profession.”
Today, the city’s symbol is trying to create a positive image. Now the version of the blessed elder Simeone is raised to the fore. However, the authors of the hit observed the exhausting summer heat, and the Uchkuduk became known as “in the desert – a life buoy.” Contrary to the text of the hut, the caravans in these died places never went.
