During the booking of railway tickets for business trips, questions may arise how to choose the right carriage type and which class of service in the train is better. To denote different types of wagons and classes of service in Russian Railways, combinations of numbers and letters are used. For example, you can find the designations of the type 1A or 2b.

The set of amenities and services depends on the type of car. Thus, when buying a ticket, you can choose the right place in the wagon of the desired type. In this article, we will analyze the most common types of railways of passenger trains in Russian Railways, as well as service classes.

Sitting wagons

In wagons of this type, each passenger has a separate chair or seat. Sutting wagons are suitable for daytime moves at relatively small distances, although sometimes tickets to sedentary wagons are sold at more distant distances.

For example, only seats are available in the inter -regional “sappsans” and “cuts”, also this type of tickets are sold to trains that go within the region or between neighboring areas.

Depending on the class of service, sedentary wagons can be marked with 1C, 2C, 3C, 1P, 1ZH, 2ZH, 3O, 3B, and so on, where the figure indicates the level of comfort, and the letter reflects the features of the car (for example, is the transportation of the air conditioner, the presence of air conditioning, etc.)

Reserved seats

Placart is an open passenger car in which there are access places for passengers. This is the most budgetary option for long -distance distances. As a rule, the upper and lower shelves in the block and side are available.

The reserved seats are usually indicated by the number 3. The letter designations indicate the features of the car, for example:

3D – a wagon with air conditioning, you can transport animals.

3l – a wagon without air conditioning and a dry closet, you cannot transport animals.

3E – a wagon with air conditioning and a dry closet, you cannot transport animals.

Cam wagons

The coupe is one of the most popular types of wagons, as it represents the optimal ratio of comfort and prices. As a rule, in such a wagon eight or nine compartment from each other are four places in each. Therefore, the passage in the compartment is more comfortable: extraneous noise does not interfere, but personal items are in greater safety.

Wagons of this type are usually marked with the number 2 (second grade). Services in a compartment wagon may include food, transportation of animals, safe, and so on. Here are a few examples of markings:

2E – a compartment with air conditioning, the price includes food, press and a hygienic set. It is also allowed to transport pets.

2k – there is an air conditioner and a dry closet, it is allowed to transport pets, other services for an additional fee.

2D – the presence of air conditioning and a dry closet is not necessary, the transport of animals is not allowed, other services for an additional fee.

Lux and St.

The most comfortable for travel are luxury and SV cars (sleeping cars). In wagons of this type, in each compartment, two sleeping places, both of which are located below. In the SV, an air conditioner is always installed, often there is a button for calling the conductor.

Lux and SV cars are indicated by the number 1 (first grade). Services in increased comfort cars may include food, drinks, a TV in compartment, road sets, press and so on. Examples of markings:

1b is a business class, a compartment for one adult passenger. The price includes food, drinks, hygiene set, press, it is also allowed to carry pets with you.

1E-conditions and a set of services as in a business class, but you can not buy a whole compartment.

1U – the level of comfort of the first class, the transportation of animals, other services for an additional fee is allowed. You can read more about the labeling of various types of wagons by the link: Service class on Russian Railways Transfer.
