Tunisia in July and August 2026: weather and reviews, air and water temperature in Hammamet and Sousse, on Djerba, are there jellyfish? Is it worth going on vacation and where are the prices in hotels better? And also – what to do and what to see in Tunisia during July and August – says Eurotraveler.
At the peak of summer, Tunisia, like any other African country, is heated to temperatures that not every vacationer will find comfortable. However, many potential holidaymakers today have a certain immunity from the heat: in the past summer, Antalya and Cyprus, the UAE and Phuket somehow cannot even give up at the thought of North Africa.
In addition, many take comfort in the knowledge that in July Tunisia, in terms of weather gone far from southern European countries. And in August, the air temperature in Hammamet and Sousse, Monastrir and Djerba is by no means equal to Dubai.
So, you can go here. We would even say that it is necessary – after familiarizing yourself with some realities regarding security issues, as well as prices in hotels and entertainment. Actually, we are going to tell you about all this in this review!
If you are considering the possibility of a summer holiday on the Spanish Costa del Sol or Italian Sardinia (a priori more expensive places), then why should you give up, say, on Hammamet? Or, for example, Tabarka? Where is it sure to be no hotter than Malta?!
Moreover, Tunisia is on the list of countries where Russian citizens can enter without a visa. And the requirements for a foreign passport are minimal. We are no longer talking about prices for vacations – they are still quite affordable.
Weather in Tunisia in July
It will greatly please those who miss the warmth and sunshine. Both the first and second in the African country in the middle of summer become frankly a lotand only a grouch will notice that it’s too much!
During the day, already at the beginning of July, the air temperature in Tunisia confidently creeps over +30 °C. Next you will experience an increase to +33-35 °C.
On the coast, such heat is well tolerated by those who do not count cardiovascular diseases among their ailments. Because fresh breezes from the sea have excellent conditioning properties. And they ventilate not only the beaches, but also the lungs of tourists.
However, there is a well-founded unspoken rule: don’t appear in the open after 11 am and before 16 pm. Those who wish can adjust the interval to an even more comfortable one from their point of view.

And, of course, you should shade yourself as much as possible! Because while relaxing in Tunisia in July, everyone who leaves the hotel room at least for a short time will get an even coffee tan.
Pareos and long-sleeved shirts, knee-length shorts, wide-brimmed hats—probably even important key wardrobe pieces. Let’s not forget about such an absolutely necessary thing in the hot south as sunscreen.
Moreover, we choose it based not so much on financial capabilities, but on the declared properties – what else should you take with you on a vacation at sea.
At night in the coastal areas of the country it becomes cooler: after sunset, Hammamet and Monastir, Sousse in July cool down to +26-29 °C. Which allows you to take a little breath and prepare for the next extremely clear day.
Evenings, in terms of temperatures, by the way, are especially gorgeous. And they should definitely be spent at sea, soaking up the heat. And watching the sun falling somewhere behind the ocher walls of the local medinas.
In the middle of Tunisia at the end of July the atmosphere during the day heats up to +40 °C and above. This fact should alarm those who are planning any excursion activities. For example, trips to the ruins of Carthage and ancient Rome, not to mention tours of the Sahara.
Humidity
Humidity low everywherethe air is dry and, as noted in reviews, sometimes even too dry. Smells do not spread, and the aromas characteristic of the south envelop you immediately upon arrival – this is definitely not about Tunisia in July.
The reverse side of the coin, however, makes you “buy” this – you won’t have to suffer from the stuffiness here. The maximum that threatens is the feeling of being in a hot frying pan, as soon as you leave the shade at the height of the day.
Well, this is quite tolerable,” exclaims a person familiar with the realities of ordinary weather in summer Antalya. Why, Türkiye, in the summer and in Sochi – it’s still a steam room!

Where to go
If you want less heat for the same money, in July it is better to target resorts in the north of the country. The best choice, especially if you are going on holiday with children, is Yasmine Hammamet.
It’s less hot here, the beaches are gorgeous, and the entry into the water is gentle. By the way, jellyfish are also rare – most reviews do not mention them at all.
Suss, as you probably know, much more lively resort. Which is more attractive to young people “without obligations” – especially since the air temperature here is usually a degree or two higher.
Monastir is more aimed at family tourists. In Mahdia at this time there is already a risk of encountering a jellyfish. However, if you do not know that you have strong allergic reactions, such a single rendezvous only threatens with pain.
Don’t discount Djerba – in July it is not as hot here as you might suspect from looking at the map. Apparently, the island seems to be bathed in sea breezes, looking with a grin at its continental colleagues standing on the edge of a giant desert.
Tunisia in August
On one side it becomes a drop hotter place — every first review advises not to crawl out of the air-conditioned shade after 11 o’clock. On the other hand, the atmosphere is slightly humidified.
That is, a resident of northern and central Europe may not even notice this: that there is no rain at all, that it will drip for a day or two. But statistically there is precipitation.
However, it’s not worth saying that they greatly refresh the perception – an hour, and only memories of the rain remain
Humidity remains at a level that is pleasant for most, and shirts do not stick to the body. But the heat is still deafening: during the day it reaches +35-40 almost constantly.

The main problem of Tunisia in August are jellyfish. The sea becomes too warm, gonads love it no less than tourists. And with the consciousness of their own superiority, they cluster in large numbers near the shore.
Vacationers who love to swim, having received two or three blows from the “whip” on the open sea, instantly become prudent, joining the army of fans of hotel pools.
It is believed that Hammamet is in August – literally a promised place for jellyfish. But in Sousse for some reason it is calmer in this regard. That is, you can meet a jellyfish while swimming in the sea there, but the likelihood of this is lower.
It has been noticed that for some reason the indicated sea reptiles do not like Djerba too much. Apparently this has something to do with currents.
Water temperature
By the beginning of July, the sea in Tunisia warms up to +25-26 degrees Celsius. Due to mostly clear weather and a large number of tourists, you can start swimming as early as 7-8 am. And roll up the towels by half past ten.
The evening round of ablutions can begin at 15-16 hours, depending on the number of free umbrellas on the beach (hotels on the first line are an informed choice). And finish at the same time as the sun sets – it drops below the horizon at 7-8 pm.
In the very south of the country sometimes +29 °C. And the water area maintains this temperature until the very end of the month.
Moving into the first month of school in literally optimal conditions. So a holiday in Tunisia in September is actually a delicacy!

Prices 2026
Quite modest. And in order not to be unfounded, we will mention a couple of examples of inexpensive but good hotels. And you will already come to a conclusion – should you think about a holiday in Tunisia in the summer?
In Hammamet, I somehow had to relax in the Residence Royal – Deluxe. Not a particularly expensive apart-hotel (in August from 110 € per day for a 60-meter apartment for four), offering large swimming pool and located close to the sea.
A good impression was left by the attitude of the local staff towards cleanliness, as well as the cost of breakfast – it is known that a vacationer, at least in the morning, does not want to run anywhere…
A similar hotel on Djerba costs a little more in 2026 – renting an apartment for 4 people in Le Patio de Mezraya for a week in July or August will cost you in the range of 900 – 1,000 €.
This complex is located 12-15 minutes drive from Houmt Souk, there is a large swimming pool and a closed area. And yes, the price includes breakfast for everyone!
Prices for excursions in Tunisia also quite good. Since the price in the region of 50-90 € for a one-day excursion to the main attractions of the country, including El Jem and Sidi Bou Said, looks quite reasonable.

Things to do
Taking into account the above information regarding (at least) temperatures, the idea of desert safaris and, in general, trips outside the resorts in summer Tunisia seem… untimely. So if you are interested in visiting El Jem, archaeological sites and ancient ruins, as well as metropolitan Tunisia, pre-ancient Carthage and blue and white Sidi Bou Said, a visit to the African country is worth shifting to more secure in terms of weather (spring-autumn) time.
But if we are talking about a short walk, then why not take it?
In Hammamet, for example, you are unlikely to ignore the local port, crowded with yachts and cute snow-white boats. Pay at least a little attention to the Carthageland amusement park (the kids will be happy) and the souvenir shops.
After all, how can you not bring beautifully smelling cosmetics or an impressively archaic clay pot from here as souvenirs?
Perhaps you will also take a walk along the ancient streets of the Medina – in the evening, for example. But probably only every tenth tourist will risk going to the sun-baked Pupput excavation site. If you end up in Tunisia at the peak of the season, of course.
In Sousse more entertainment — it’s not for nothing that this resort is shown to be active and enterprising. The local old town is frankly richer in ancient buildings. But few people take advantage of the opportunity to evaluate this – as already mentioned, it is too hot at the time described.
