Moving with a large suitcase is not always convenient, especially if it is a short trip. And often this greatly increases the cost of air tickets, so many are limited only to manual treasury. We share tips on how to competently collect things on such a trip.
What is considered manual cement
The standard manual luggage size in most airlines is 55 × 40 × 20 cm in length, width and height, respectively. The weight should not exceed 10 kg. It can be a bag, a special backpack of 44 liters or a small suitcase of 32 liters.
For low -cost airlines, restrictions are stricter – bags with dimensions up to 40 × 30 × 20 cm are placed in the calibrator, and the weight should be up to 5 kg. Usually, a ladies’ bag or backpack is suitable for these parameters.
For clarity, they collected in one table the permissible dimensions of hand luggage in the most popular Russian airlines.

For an additional fee in many low -cost airlines (for example, from European Wizz and Ryanair) you can take a hand trend of standard size with you by buying a Priority service. This means that your plane landing will be a priority and you can definitely find a place for your bag on the shelf. This option is cheaper than taking a small suitcase in luggage, and it will not need to wait after landing. However, you should not pay extra for the sake of quick landing. According to observations, this service is very popular among travelers, and a separate long line is built on landing from such passengers.

What to check before a trip to the airport
Typically, the size of manual hand luggage is checked in two places: for registration on a flight and when landing. You can almost always register online and go past the racks at the airport, and landing is dynamically, so that the airline employees will probably not have time to check each passenger. In this case, for a few extra, the sake of the bag does not face a fine, but if the manual custody of the look is knocked out of permissible sizes, you will probably be asked to place your luggage in the calibrator. To avoid unforeseen expenses at the airport, prepare in advance:
- Check on the airline’s website relevant requirements for manual luggage;
- Do not stuff a soft bag or backpack completely – the thing should have the opportunity to take the shape of the caliber and fit into it;
- If you take a camera, tablet or laptop, take it out and carry it to the plane in your hands to reduce the weight of the bag.
Which is better not to take with you on a trip
Such things can be conditionally divided into two categories: that you definitely cannot be transported in the passenger compartment, and what is simply not recommended to take with you if you want to save space.
In the cabin, you cannot transport:
- piercing-cutting items: for example, razors (except for electric ones in which the blades are hidden), manicure scissors and a corkscrew;
- Everything that can explode: deodorants-anerosoli, gas stations and pyrotechnics gas stations;
- The bottles with a volume of more than 100 ml: they include cream, shampoo, perfumes and water. Even if there are a couple of drops of shampoo at the bottom in a bank of 250 ml, you will not be allowed to take it with you;
- The total volume of liquids per passenger should be no more than 1 liter.
What should be left at home to save space as much as possible:
- second pair of shoes;
- weighty cosmetic bag in a large number of creams;
- sunscreen and swimming accessories: usually they can be purchased in place;
- packs of drugs. Cut blisters and place the tablets in a separate container, so they will take less space.

Useful life hacks
- The hotels and apartments often provide shampoo and shower gel in small volumes, so you can not take them with you from home;
- Buy creams, hair masks and cosmetics in Trev formats: usually, the volume of such jars is not more than 50 ml;
- Pack of liquids in advance in one transparent package – so you will save time in customs control if you ask you to get all the bottles.
Also keep in mind that there are storage rooms in airports. There you can leave a bottle of expensive perfumes and outerwear, if you fly in a warm place. At the airports of Moscow and St. Petersburg, storage tariffs are as follows:
Sheremetyevo | 500 rubles for the first day and 250 rubles for each subsequent |
Domodedovo | 800 rubles per day, from the seventh day for 400 rubles |
Vnukovo | 500 rubles per day |
Zhukovsky | 400 rubles per day |
Pulkovo | 600 rubles for the first day and 300 rubles for each subsequent |
How to pack things

Weigh separately the equipment and wires that you take with you. You do not need to weigh the phone and the camera. The smartphone will be in your pocket, and the camera can be put on your neck. Add the weight of documents, drugs and liquids.
- a jacket, hoodies or sweater weigh about 500 g, but this clothes can be put on yourself – then the weight will not be taken into account;
- T -shirts and shirts weigh about 250 g, for a week there are usually three pieces;
- Jeans and trousers weigh about 600 g and take up a lot of space, it is best to immediately go to them;
- Shorts, skirts and dresses weigh about 300 g, jeans are heavier;
- swimsuit, swimming trunks, socks and underwear weigh on average from 50 to 200 g.
At the bottom of the backpack, put those things that you will not use to your destination – dress, socks or cosmetic bags. The equipment and things that need to be often taken out, it is better to put on top.
Roll the clothes with a roller: so it grows less and takes up a minimum of space. To do this, fold the T -shirt from the sleeve to the center by one third on each side and tighten tightly, starting from the collar. It is better to put on the most voluminous clothes immediately: so more things will fit into the backpack, and you can change at any time. For example, it is better to fly in pants, and put shorts or a skirt in a backpack. Put on the sweater on the T -shirt – if it is hot, it can be carried in your hands. The plane can be cold because of the air conditioner, and the sweatshirt is useful at hand.
If you fly not alone, collect backpacks together: distribute your clothes by weight and volume. Sometimes, in this case, it will be possible to accommodate more things, and the bag will be easier.
