The most recognizable symbol of the city of Rio de Janeiro- The statue of Christ is the skill (Statue of Christ-Switches), which costs at an altitude of 710 meters above sea level on Mount Korkovado.
This grandiose statue with hands spread out in different directions was conceived as a symbol of the blessing and at the same time protecting the city.
During the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the independence of Brazil from the Portuguese colonization, a competition and collection of funds for the construction of a statue were announced in the local popular magazine-not only Rio de Janeiro, but the whole nation. The winner in this competition was named Elector da Silva Costa. His idea was to portray Jesus with his hands spread to the sides, thanks to which the monument would look like a cross. This gesture means pride in the nation and at the same time care and blessing.
Work on the creation of the monument ended in 1931. The height of the statue itself was 30 meters, and the scope of the hands of Christ – 28 meters. In July 2007, she was recognized as one of the seven new wonders of the world. Even after more than 80 years, the statue of Christ-Redeemer in Brazil and today looks grandiose and modern.
A stunning views of the city of Rio de Janeiro are opened with Korkovado. If you arrive early on a clear day, you can not only avoid the queues to the foot, but also make out the world-famous Capokaban beach and the Marakan stadium, the bay under the name of Guanabara and the Laguna Rodrigo de Fratas, as well as the Mountain Pan-de-asar and Doise-Irmmans (Two Brothers).

How to get
Today, elevators and escalators are built to the monument. But you can walk along the path and stairs, overcoming 256 steps. You can also get by a car.
The train begins to go to the monument from 8:30 in the morning and ends his movement at 19:00. A trip will cost you 43 Real Madrid and 20 minutes.
