Essentuki in September 2026: weather and reviews, air temperature, how to dress? Is it worth going on vacation, prices in hotels and excursions. What to do and what to see in Essentuki in September, where to go nearby and on Caucasian Mineralnye Vody – says Eurotraveler.

Essentuki is a boring city. This opinion can be found in every second (it’s good, if it’s the second) review.

However, here we need to make a reservation – we mean exclusively the reviews of those vacationers who come to see Essentuki for a day. He spends several hours in it and leaves, keeping in his memory not very flattering memories.

However, if you come to Essentuki, for example, in September: both to relax and improve your health, then you will experience different emotions. And your impressions will be radically different from the impressions of “one-day” tourists from Kislovodsk or Pyatigorsk.

And there are several reasons for this. Firstly, the local climate and waters, as well as the mud of Lake Tambukan, really heal. And not only physical, but also nervous sores – a multi-day stay in Essentuki so calmingas hardly as drugs can do this – with the exception of especially potent ones.

Secondly, the rhythm of life is guaranteed to decrease – there is simply nowhere to rush at this resort. And even if you decide to diversify your vacation with 1-2 trips to interesting places in the neighborhood, you will not experience panic or even fatigue. For all this (usually) actually happens in a characteristic of the city and Caucasian Mineralnye Vody in general at a measured pace.

And thirdly, you definitely won’t face ruin as a result of a September holiday “on the waters”. That is, if you meet an important condition, decide to ignore expensive sanatoriums.

Well, now to specific facts and figures!

Briefly

  1. When is the best time to go to Essentuki? It is believed that in the summer. In any case, this is what most guidebooks believe. But we, perhaps, will go against the established opinion of the majority and argue that early autumn in these parts is even the best time. Cooler and less rainy!
  2. How warm is it in Essentuki at the end of September? Usually the air temperature during the day rises to +16-18 °C. But on some days it can be only +10-14 °C
  3. How to dress in Essentuki at the beginning of autumn? Sometimes it’s completely summery, in dresses and sundresses, shirts and light trousers. In this case, you should always have a thick (preferably waterproof) windbreaker or jacket, sweatshirt or sweater on hand

Weather in Essentuki in September

It is good, first of all, for its abundance of light and a rather modest amount of precipitation by local standards. This distinguishes it most favorably from its summer “colleagues”, who, on the contrary, are sometimes very generous with rain.

As for the air temperature, in Essentuki in early September it can reach +30-35 degrees Celsius. Such a hot moment, which is generally completely atypical for Caucasian Mineral Waters, does not last long – a maximum of 3-4 days. And it can change like just warm weather with temperatures around +25, and natural “immersion” below the +20-degree mark.

Until mid-September in Essentuki, however, it is almost always warm. And air temperatures in most cases during the day range from +18 to +25 °C. But at night there are surprises in the form of only +5-7 degrees (usually still at least +12-15 °C).

In the second half of September, holidaymakers should hope for continuation of the banquet pleasant, non-cold weather with temperatures up to +18-20 °C. But don’t be surprised by short-term dips to +10-12 degrees or lower.

Rains are rare. 60 average monthly mm for Essentuki means, if not “great dryness,” then still mostly clear weather. Which will allow you to “walk” the entire summer wardrobe you took with you on vacation.

The average number of rainy days is 3-4 for the whole of September. However, it cannot be said that the number of cloudy and downright rainy days increases as October approaches. On the contrary, the average month of autumn in Essentuki also very nicealthough noticeably colder than September.

Here is the weather forecast for the resort for the coming days.

What to take

Despite the high probability of not just warmth, but at first even summer heat a la Türkiye, be sure to take it with you on a trip to Essentuki in September waterproof windbreaker. And also some fairly dense things.

Because they can be very helpful in the event of a sudden change in weather conditions (which this region is capable of). And also in the case of trips to mountainous areas – a rare tourist, finding himself near Elbrus, will miss the chance to see the greatest mountain of Europe up close.

For country trips and walks over rough terrain, mountain boots or at least sneakers that securely fix the ankle may come in handy. Well, no forget about sunglasses and various caps plus sunscreen.

What they say in the reviews is true – the sun in the mountains on a clear day not only blinds, but can also burn your skin

Those who are in the mood not just for relaxation, but also for mud therapy, should take things related to it with them to Essentuki. In particular, more changes of linen and towels, and cosmetics. And of course, take your favorite large (crossed out) huge mug for drinking mineral water on vacation.

In September in Essentuki you can go on an excursion to the Tsander Institute of Mechanotherapy

Prices 2026

Plane tickets from Moscow to Mineralnye Vody and back in early September can be purchased for 26+ thousand rubles per person. Transportation of luggage weighing up to 23 kilograms is included in this amount; a round trip light flight will cost ~20 thousand rubles.

A taxi from the airport to Essentuki will cost 1,200 – 1,500 rubles. Citizens who are committed to austerity can get there even cheaper – by public transport, but with transit through the Mineralnye Vody bus station.

Prices for a week’s stay in a sanatorium with full board (three meals a day), but without treatment, start from 46-50 thousand rubles for two people. If you want to purchase a tour with treatment, then you will pay at least 60 thousand for two.

Renting a separate apartment will allow save a lot on accommodation (we don’t calculate how much we will have to spend on food – everyone has their own priorities here). Since separate apartments for 3-4 people in Essentuki can be rented in September for 3-3.5 thousand rubles per day.

A room in a guest house for a couple of people will cost even less – about 2-2.5 thousand per day. In the last two cases, you will have to plan treatment procedures (after consultation with a doctor, of course) yourself.

Which on the one hand seems dreary, but on the other – opens a window of opportunity. After all, you can visit all the procedures available in Essentuki, without being limited to just one sanatorium.

Excursions around the resort and the region also cannot be called an expensive pleasure. It will cost about a thousand rubles to get acquainted with the Essentuki themselves on a guided walk. For 4-6 thousand you can go to your choice: to Dombay or the Elbrus region, perhaps even to North Ossetia or Chechnya.

Things to do

Essentuki is not very good with its own attractions. Although if you are a calm and reflective person by nature, you won’t get bored.

You will take a long walk along the health paths of the city Resort Park, pay a visit (at least once) to the Semashko mud baths, and take an excursion to the Tsander Institute of Mechanotherapy. You can also work out on the simulators in the latter if you find a way to sign up for procedures.

Regularly conduct concerts and performances, musical evenings in the Shalyapin Concert Hall. Moreover, with the arrival of autumn, this activity does not stop. The schedule of concerts and performances is posted on the official website of the North Caucasus State Philharmonic – kursal.ru/afisha/city-essentuki/.

It’s more than easy to travel from Essentuki both to Kislovodsk and to Pyatigorsk. Train tickets are very inexpensive, and the entire trip lasts less than half an hour.

We briefly wrote earlier about what to visit in Kislovodsk and nearby. Our other review provides a list of the most interesting places in Pyatigorsk.

In sunny September, it is very advisable to get (from Essentuki there is minibus No. 117a) to another Mineralny Vody resort, Zheleznovodsk. Which also has a large and very well-kept Spa Park. Also in Zheleznovodsk it is difficult to pass by the beautiful palace in the Moorish style, which belonged to the Emir of Bukhara.

It is better to visit more inaccessible places in the region along with excursions. Unless, of course, you decide to get to Kislovodsk-Essentuki by car.

And, of course, in September you need to go to Dombay. Together with a one-day tour, which “gallops across Europe” and is very exhausting. Or more thoroughly: for 2-3 days, with overnight stays in one of the many (and at the beginning of autumn not too expensive) Dombay guest houses…
