Tbilisi in September 2026: weather and reviews, air temperature, how to dress? Is it worth going on vacation, prices for air tickets and hotels, how to get there by car? What to do and what to see in Tbilisi in September, where to go and visit in Georgia – in the Eurotraveler review.
Tbilisi is the main city of Georgia, and as a result, the most interesting. At least, that’s what most travelers think!
Those who first get to know him, and only then deign to pay attention to Kutaisi, for example. Or they crown a beautiful vacation with a trip to the sea in Batumi.
Even in warm September, Tbilisi is in demand much morethan any other city or region of the ordering country. Which, of course, is logical, because it is in the capital and not far from it that the lion’s share of what needs to be visited in Georgia is concentrated.
At the same time, such a choice causes a feeling of some understatement. After all, at the beginning of autumn (almost) everyone thinks about a beach holiday and strives to catch up with the elusive summer
In the case of Georgia, is it possible to combine sightseeing with a visit to a seaside resort? Absolutely!
Moreover, many tourists plan their trip around the hospitable Transcaucasian country precisely with this in mind. And now we will tell you exactly what you need to take into account and what to pay attention to special attention!
Briefly
- Is it worth going to Georgia in September? We would say that this is the best month of the year for a trip – no longer hot, not yet cold. Full of sunshine and warmth, not rainy. And also – productive
- What fruits and berries ripen in Georgia at the beginning of autumn? September is the time of mass grape harvest and production of new wine. Also in markets and stores, shelves are bursting with fresh figs, plums and cherry plums, late sweet peaches, watermelons and melons
- How do people dress in Tbilisi in September? In the first half of the month, completely summer clothes will be enough for you. Among which, however, there should still be jacket or windbreaker. Closer to October, on some days something thicker will come in handy as a “load”: a sweatshirt or sweater

Weather in Tbilisi in September
It gravitates towards the real “golden mean” in the form of +25 degrees Celsius, but it also allows itself to go to extremes. That is, it can either briefly climb into the range above +30 and even +32 °C, or drop to +15 °C – including during the daytime.
You can catch hot summer days if you go on vacation to Tbilisi in early September. Well, in most cases the Georgian capital can observe a drop in air temperature to +15 degrees Celsius or so (not lasting, however) after the 23rd-25th.
In general, throughout most of the first autumn month in the capital of Georgia – warm. And it’s rarely hot.
So the air temperature in Tbilisi during September fluctuates during the day within the range of +20-25 °C and at night it tries to stay in the range of +16-18 °C.
Sometimes it happens even less, but you shouldn’t rely on such “cataclysms” – they happen sporadically and not every year. Moreover, you will almost certainly not find any mention of them in the reviews!
Because tourists want to see Tbilisi, regardless of “some kind of” temperature. And upon arrival, they immediately plunge into the whirlpool of events.
Since the local climate at the beginning of autumn encourages long lasting panoramic promenades and long gatherings on the street verandas of restaurants. And who would refuse to do this – near Mukuzani or Akhasheni, Tsinandali or Kindzmarauli – on a bewitchingly warm, velvety evening?
Rain and sun
Moreover, there is no need to be afraid of precipitation and, in principle, inclement weather in Tbilisi in September. Of course, you may be lucky enough to have one or even two really wet days. But in general, such weather is not typical for this city at this time of year.
What is the length of daylight in Tbilisi at the beginning of autumn? It is quite sufficient for you to managed to examine everything significant and even went to Gergeti and Mtskheta.
For example, on September 1 it will be light for more than 13 hours in the Georgian capital. And as October approaches, the period between sunrise and sunset will shorten to about 12 hours.
Which, as you might guess, is a more than acceptable indicator. Approximately the same as in Moscow. And far ahead of a city like, say, St. Petersburg in September, it begins to pay for its magical summer white nights.

How to dress
You are right if you think that during almost the entire September in Tbilisi everyone wears light clothes. However, closer to the middle of the month, on some days you want to throw a blouse over your shoulders or dress up in a fashionable hoodie with a trendy print.
Warmer clothes than sundresses and summer trousers, tops and shirts in almost mandatory It will also be necessary for those travelers planning to visit Tbilisi in the third decade of the month. Although, of course, someone can postpone the arrival of autumn weather for a while – for example, by going on vacation to the sea in Batumi in September. Or, say, just as warm, if not more so, Kutaisi.
Jackets and sweaters, windbreakers, and sometimes hats will definitely come in handy for those who decide to get out into the mountains on the threshold of October. And if in Gudauri you will most likely observe a cool, but still autumn, then in Svaneti at this time frosts are recorded at least at night and piercing winds begin to blow.
Here is how to get from Tbilisi to Batumi on your own.
Prices 2026
Much less potential weather is encouraging. Since moving a tourist and his (normal, not nominal) luggage between Moscow and Tbilisi, and then in the opposite direction, will require an investment of 55 thousand rubles. You will pay another approximately 1.5 – 2,000 rubles (that is, from 50 lari) for a trip to the Georgian capital from the airport by taxi.
But the prices in hotels are very reasonable. So, a room in a simple but cozy hotel, located about a kilometer from the core of the old city (Hotel Corner), will cost only 30-35 € per night for two.
If you have taken the trouble to study how many hotels in Sochi or Kislovodsk want to be booked in September, then you will agree that this is wonderful offer.
The one who decides to stay in Dzveli Tbilisi itself and just leave the hotel and walk down a cobblestone street under clusters of airy wooden balconies won’t go broke either. Since the Old Tbilisi Apart-Hotel charges only about 45-50 € per night for a stay. That against the backdrop of modern Russian, let alone European, price lists is simply a balm for the soul.
Walking around the city with a guide is also very inexpensive – for such an experience you will have to pay only 20-25 €. Moreover, in some cases you can also get a discount.
For not a fundamentally large amount in eurocurrency, you can go to Kakheti. A trip to Gergeti, to the famous Assumption Church overlooking Kazbek, the Ananuri fortress and the Zhinvali reservoir is approximately the same. And you can visit Mtskheta with a guide (and transfer, of course) for a comparable amount!

What to see
There is an opinion that there are enough interesting places to visit in Tbilisi for 2-3 days. And we will readily agree with this – if you are an active person and not prone to sentimentality.
Well, the usual – a relaxing holiday. After all, you can easily spend a week or two in Georgia, drinking original Georgian wine and eating incomparable khachapuri on September evenings.
You should definitely take a ride over the Kura River on a cable car – preferablyeat it at dusk. So that later, from the heights of the fortress walls of Narikala, you can admire the magically illuminated and therefore simply enchanting city.
You won’t see these same walls in the dark? We assure you that you can survive this!
Take a walk around the old city, feel its incredibly original flavor and aura. Admire the domes from the outside or take a bath (it’s not cheap) in one of the local sulfur baths, where Pushkin, Griboedov, and Dumas once visited.
The list of iconic attractions of Tbilisi must include the main local mountain – Mtatsmindu (there is a cable car going there). Moreover, tourists with children can visit the amusement park located on it.
But some of the capital’s churches are definitely worth a visit – especially the Zion Cathedral.
If you have time, visit the Metekhi area and dream on about something good on the balcony of Queen Darejan’s palace, which was located right on the banks of the Kura. Well, then, go to the ancient Assumption Church, which was lucky enough to survive the residence of the Georgian monarchs.

Where to go
If you haven’t been there before, visit at least a couple of iconic places. For example, in the already mentioned town of Gergeti on the Georgian Military Road, where travelers are imperiously invited by both the ancient church and the views of gray-haired Kazbek that open from it. And in Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia.
Next door to Mtskheta is the Jvari Monastery, another atmospheric place with wonderful panoramic views. As they say, mentioned by Lermontov in “The Demon”.
In September it is very Kakheti is beautifulhome to many wonderful Georgian wines. And Sighnaghi might just steal your heart.
A pretty city that once in its history saw (almost) “a million red roses.” At least that’s what the legend says. And the chronicles claim that it really happened – this is how the artist Niko Pirosmani confessed his love for the French actress Margarita de Sevres.
It’s not too difficult to get from Tbilisi (by car: your own or rented, or along with an excursion) to the cave city of Uplistsikhe. And then try the famous mineral waters in Borjomi.
But visiting Vardzia, an amazing, very large, ancient city, is a more tiring undertaking. First of all, because this place is located 230 km from Tbilisi. And 4 hours away by car!
