We tell you that you can not miss a trip to this South American country.

How to move around the country

Local airlines fly to many key points of attraction of tourists.

Get from Lima to Cuzco the fastest by plane, travel time 1.5 hours, the ticket cost of 5,400 rubles*.

The railway message is poorly developed, the exception is a train with panoramic windows on the Cuzco-Picchu route.

What to see in cities

Capital Peru, city Limais located on the shore of the Pacific Ocean, but tourists are attracted not so much by beach holidays as the opportunity to get acquainted with the unique history and color of the former Spanish colony. The historical center of the city is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List: the buildings of the XVII – XVIII centuries with traditional carved wooden balconies have been preserved here.

In order to try to understand what the Peru was before the arrival of the conquistadors, visit the Larcom Museum: a rich collection of objects of the Jules of the Juplery Age includes ceramics, silver and gold, as well as unusual exhibits in the so -called erotic hall. After a taxi, go to the main square of the city: inspect the Baroque Cathedral and Monastery of St. Francis with its luxurious library and gloomy catacombs. The gold museum will help to unwind after the underground excursion: among the jewelry of pre -ninsk crops, burial masks, jewelry, weapons and household items are presented.

Cuzco It is often perceived as a transit point on the way to Machu Picchu, but in the most former capital of the Inca Empire there is something to see. Do not miss the Baroque Square of the Armas and the ruins of the temple of the Sun – the main sanctuary of the Inca, the floor and the walls of which were finished with gold. After the conquerors arrived, the temple was looted and destroyed, and on its basis the Catholic Cathedral of St. Dominic was built.

Corican – this is the name of this place in the language of the Indians – amazes with polygonal masonry and mixing of Spanish and Ink cultures. What to do: To solve the secrets of Machu Picchu

The ancient city of Inca lost in the Andes is one of the most mysterious attractions not only in Peru, but on the entire Latin American continent. The citadel is located in the Peruvian Andes at an altitude of almost 2 500 m above sea level: fogs and cloudiness here are frequent guests, so it is called a “city among the clouds”.

Machu-picchu was built in the 15th century, and a century later, when the Spanish invasion began, the Incas for reasons unknown to this day left an amazing city with terraces, temples and residential quarters. But the conquistadors could not get to the sanctuary: the world found out about Machu-picchu only at the beginning of the last century. Thanks to prolonged isolation, the architecture of an abandoned settlement was preserved in its original form, surprising tourists with the skill of the Inca in urban planning and the degree of development of their civilization. To get to Machu-Picchu, you need to get by train from Cuzco to the village of Aguaas-Calentes, to drive up on the bus or climb 7 km on foot. Entrance tickets must be bought in advance: for the sake of maintaining the Heritage of the Inca, their number is limited.

Go on a hike along the Inca path

A more authentic, but physically difficult way to get to Machu Picchu is to go on tracking along the Inca path. Inka Trail – a path laid a century ago from the Ukubamba River in the vicinity of Cuzco to a highland sanctuary, one of the most popular foot routes in South America. The classic version of tracking takes 4 days, its length is 45 km. Along the way, tourists go through subtropical forests, overcome hundreds of stone steps, rise to a mountain pass 4,200 m high, admire the panoramas of snow -capped Andes and green valleys and visit archaeological excavations. You can get to the Inca path only with a guide by buying a tour from an accredited tour operator. You need to book places in advance, preferably in a few months.

Swim along the lake of Titikak and visit the floating islands

The highest navigable lake of the world, Titicaca, spills at an altitude of 3,812 m and is known to most of us from the school geography course. Much fewer people know that there are inhabited floating islands of Uros on the lake. Many years ago, the local Indians of the Uru tribe, fleeing the Inca, began to create small islands from the roster growing along the shores of Lake Rodnik. The Incas have long sunk into history, but the generation after the generation of the Indians continues to live on the water: they build huts and cool rooks, make bonfires and cook food, engage in fishing, bird hunting and sometimes move along the lake. Tourists are carried to the largest islands: they demonstrate the device of floating villages and introduce them to the life of their inhabitants. To see Titicaca and visit the floating islands, you need to get by bus to the town of Puno, from where travel agencies organize excursions.

Look into the three -color monastery of St. Catalina

The Dominican Convent of Santa Catalina in the town of Arkyip was founded in 1580, this is one of the first and largest similar objects of both Americas. The monastery is called the city in the city and the model of colonial architecture. The extensive territory of the monastery – it occupies 4 quarters – is conditionally divided into three parts: red, blue and white. Tourists are attracted by bright tones, in which the local volcanic stone, an abundance of flowers and herbs, fountains, narrow streets, amazing murals of the XVII century and the opportunity to take a night walk with candles-exactly like nuns several centuries ago, were painted in the construction of the monastery. The entrance to the monastery is paid, tickets can be bought on the spot, a card is issued to them.

Try surfing in the Pacific Ocean

The Pacific coast of Peru is a good place to try surfing. The resort of Uanchako was recognized as the World Reserve of this extreme sport. Sandy beaches, long waves and many surfed schools will make the first experience successful and add confidence in their abilities. By the way, local narrow reed boats with bent noses are considered a prototype of modern surfing boards. For diversity, tourists are offered to conquer the waves on these pretty vessels. In Uanchako, they get through the neighboring large city of Trukhillo, where local aircraft aircraft fly from Lima fly.

Take a picture of the lamp against the background of the rainbow mountains

Two hours from Cuzco are the most replicated rainbow mountain among travelers, or mountain of seven flowers – this is the name of the top of the Viniko, known for the alternation of shades of red, turquoise, brown, white, orange and other saturated shades. The secret of beauty is in the unique mineral composition of rocks. Add the charms of the place and the sweetest lamas, with which you can arrange a photo shoot against the background of the mountains for a small fee. Less people will be in the neighboring single -color red valley, where it is convenient to go along the path. You can get to the rainbow mountain only with the tour, from parking to the observation sites to go for about an hour. Remember the possible mountain disease – the height is 5,200 meters, without acclimatization it will be difficult to rise.

Get to know the jungle of the Amazon

The starting point of acquaintance with the largest river on Earth and one of the seven new wonders of the world is the Gate of the Amazon, the city of Ikitos. Having survived the economic boom during the “rubber fever”, Ikitos with a population of about 440,000 people is surrounded by impassable jungle: there are no roads to it, you can get by plane from Lima or water through the Selva. To begin with, go to the local museum of culture of the indigenous peoples of the Amazon and the Life center of the Amazon. Then live on the legendary river and mysterious jungle: in order not to endanger yourself, take an excursion tour or hire an experienced conductor in one of the logs on the shore.
