Ruskeala Mountain Park It is one of the many unique places of Karelia. The highlight of the old park is a former marble quarry with pure emerald water, the oldest of all the others. A huge quarry is almost all filled with groundwater. This is a favorite place to visit tourists.

The quarry is 40 meters deep, it occupies a territory of about 400 meters in length, and from 60 to 100 meters width. He was flooded with water before the start of the Russo-Finnish War of 1939-1940. All the adits are completely filled with water, there was only one left without it – passed into the depths of the mountain. This mine is located above the water level.

The extraction of marble here was carried out for a very long time, since 1766. The rock was mined in special mines. Therefore, the quarry is penetrated by various passes and adits. The monument has been included in the Cultural Heritage of the Russian Federation from the second half of the 20th century.

Today, to watch Karelian beauties, hundreds of tourists from different countries rush in Ruskeala. In the park, you can see the marble structures obtained here, the stoves in which lime was burned and much more unique and new. And tours of the new quarry, in which work is underway, are also open.
